McConnell: Trump 'on to something' with attacks on four congresswomen
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Thursday that Donald Trump is "on to something" with his inflammatory attacks against four congresswomen, attempting to frame the president's racist rhetoric as rooted in ideological differences between the Republican and Democratic parties.
"I think the president is on to something," McConnell told the Fox Business Network, citing his opposition to policy proposals, including the "Green New Deal" and "Medicare for All," espoused by some progressive lawmakers and 2020 White House hopefuls.
"We're in a big debate now and next year about what we want America to be like," McConnell said. "Do we really think socialism applies here at a time of great prosperity, 50-year-low unemployment? That's what the election I think is going to be about."........
....................Ocasio-Cortez has accused McConnell of being "complicit in advancing racism in America" and charged that he "doesn't even have the backbone to speak out against" Trump's remarks.
McConnell pushed back against that criticism Thursday, calling it "nonsense" and saying he "was there" in 1963 for Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech and was "an observer" when former President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
"Look, I've got nothing to apologize on this front. We've got to tone the rhetoric down across the country," McConnell said. "Using, throwing around words like 'racism,' you know, kind of routinely applying it to almost everything. Let's talk about the issues. And the issues are ... where they want to take America. They want to take America into a socialist country."

McConnell has a great point. The media gives a complete pass to Democrats who openly engage in race-baiting, racial politics, etc.. They reprint articles about the evils of "whiteness", etc.. But then when Trump says something in which (at worst) racism can only be inferred...they go nuts.
There is something to be said for refusing to accept their one-sided terms for public debate.

As far as I can tell, 'they' threw the first punch; Trump hit them back, his crowd reacted and the media has all be more than happy to keep stirring the pot. This will be the issue now anytime the fab four speaks; how they have been so wronged by our President. He's been very good about not letting them get away with their crap; provoked or not.

Oh no. Mitch must be prepared to be called a racist by the squad, and very likely by our very own Usual Suspects, conservatives in name only, and likely leftists spewing daily talking points; under the guise of claimed GOP "concern."
-
I think what Trump is on to is white nationalism is popular with the people who continue to remain in the GOP. All that fiscal responsibility and morality is mere dressing for the red meat of "Send Her Back."

I disagree. What is popular with the people is American sovereignty, American exceptionalism, love of Country and our Constitution.
-
Uh oh. Could it be the 'moderates' are leaving the reservation?
Maybe Mitch has access to some poll info the MSM is not interested in publishing.

Wrong. The overwhelming percent of Republicans and conservatives, support Trump; 94% according to recent polls.
You apparently side very closely with anti-American,, anti-Israel anti-semetic Omar. That maybe comports with leftist Uni-town Madison, right?
-
Onto something or on something -- as in controlled substances?
-
Mitch is signifying that keeping the racism alive with the Dems, the party of segregation and slavery, is a winning political hand.
-

The left is using the term "white nationalism" for the concepts of American sovereignty, American exceptionalism, love of Country and our Constitution and western civilization. By conflating the WN term with the others, they are trying to destroy them.
I'm not sure why @Once-Ler is making that claim; I'll leave it up to other members to suss out his motives.

@Sanguine
I see demagoguery and racism. That is why I say it. It is what is leaving a bad taste in the mouths of the GOP figures who have also condemned Trump for it.

Oh I know others are but Mitt's pretty representative.

I see neither from this President and this is coming from someone who early on stated that Trump was a narcissistic demagogue.
I see the demagoguery and racism coming heavily from the left.

I personally do not see any very fine people in the KKK, particular that wonderful crowd marching and chanting...…..WE WON'T LET THE JEWS REPLACE US.
I personally do not see any fine people in the crowds chanting SEND HER BACK.
We each have our own soul to deliver to the Lord or the Devil.

You are becoming quite proficient at misappropriating quotes to suit your POV aren't you.

Just like our moron President you equate Anti-Trump with Anti-American. I wouldn't call you anti-American or entertain the idea, but you clearly have some problem.

Nope, I have always enjoyed yours.
I wished to be a bit more stark on your comment back to the poster, based upon the many posts made by that individual.
BTW, still awaiting the day you announce for candidacy for an elected position and where I can send my check of support.

I'm flattered, @IsailedawayfromFR. I and some other retired teachers are trying to get a charter school established in our local community right now. I would like to think that this effort will have a meaningful impact on the kids (and their parents), if they are taught HOW to think, not WHAT to think. For now, this is adequate for my "keep my blood pressure high" tendencies.

We desperately need more conservative women in elected offices. Hope you can make it at some point.
