Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) checked himself into Walter Reed Army Medical Center Tuesday night to receive voluntary inpatient treatment for clinical depression, his office announced Thursday.

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman checked himself into a Washington D.C. hospital Wednesday night to be treated for clinical depression, according to his office, less than a week after checking out.
Adam Jentleson, Fetterman's chief of staff, released a statement Thursday.
"Last night, Senator John Fetterman checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to receive treatment for clinical depression. While John has experienced depression off and on throughout his life, it only became severe in recent weeks," Jentleson wrote.
"On Monday, John was evaluated by Dr. Brian P. Monahan, the Attending Physician of the United States Congress. Yesterday, Dr. Monahan recommended inpatient care at Walter Reed. John agreed, and he is receiving treatment on a voluntary basis."

I see it this way:
The guy had a major stroke that left a lot of damage and was not allowed adequate time to rest and rehab. The dems are using him as a pawn to hold on to their own power. Horribly, his own wife who should be protecting him when he is most vulnerable and needs her the most, is using him as well. They prop him up and thrust him into an impossible situation that he is incapable of handling -- interviews, committee meetings, a debate, and just simple everyday one on one communication. Being abandoned and used and under constant frustration with inadequacy, who wouldn't be in despair?

I agree with you there. I have loved ones who went to an inpatient facility for a time due to depression. And if that's really where Fetterman is, then I hope and pray he gets the help he needs.
The problem is that everyone knows his physical and cognitive condition is such that he should never have been installed into the Senate before his emotional health ever comes into it. And this seems like a little too convenient way for him to remove himself from the public eye on the heels of what appears to be yet another major physical/cognitive scare.

She came to the United States as an illegal alien when she was 7. She received her green card in 2004 and became a citizen of the United States in 2009.

The freshman senator, who is continuing to recover from a debilitating stroke in May, checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Wednesday for treatment. His bout of depression surprised staff and the senator himself, according to NBC News.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said he will not encourage Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., to resign his seat to focus on his health, amid multiple hospital stays including in-patient treatment for clinical depression.
There are growing concerns over Fetterman's ability to serve as Pennsylvania's senator while also receiving the treatment he needs, after being admitted into the hospital twice in February.
Shapiro told The Inquirer that if any Democrats asked him to tell Fetterman to step down, he would "dismiss it immediately."
One month after being sworn into the Senate, Fetterman was admitted into a Washington, D.C., hospital after experiencing lightheadedness. The Democrat checked himself back in the next week to be treated for clinical depression.

In a series of tweets Friday morning, Gisele Fetterman explained how her children were home from school and her home surrounded by press when the public heard the news that her husband was at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., seeking help for his mental health.
Gisele Fetterman said she “did the first thing I could think of,” which was pack her kids into the car and take a road trip.
The family drove into Canada and “talked about lots of hard things and how we will all have to face hard things,” and “the need to be gentle … with all and with ourselves,” the senator’s wife wrote in a tweet.
“We did some scary things but we did them together,” she said, sharing a photo and video clip from a ziplining experience over Niagara Falls. “We talked about flexibility and the need to always have an open heart and an open mind. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) is much worse than he, his wife and staff are telling the public. It is only through whispered leaks to the media that the public learns the truth and that is only after events prove the lies. He has a bad heart, which wasn’t disclosed until his debilitating stroke last May. The stroke was much worse than his campaign let on until his one debate in late October. He’s battled depression all his life, but that wasn’t disclosed until ten days ago when he was hospitalized for clinical depression.
It turns out Fetterman’s lightheadedness was the result of him not being able to take care of himself: He was not eating or drinking enough fluids to sustain himself.
Fetterman is on his own in D.C. His family did not move to Washington with him, opting to remain in their hometown Braddock. This meant that Fetterman, still recuperating from a debilitating stroke while starting a new high pressure job, had no one to look after him. His staff obviously wasn’t. They knew he was suffering from depression and that between the stroke and depression he was difficult to deal with.
Fetterman’s wife Gisele tweeted Friday that when her husband went in Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland on February 15 for depression, she grabbed the kids and their passports and got out of the country.
CNN reported in a little noticed report earlier this week that Fetterman was hospitalized because he was unable to take care of himself (excerpt):
“In someone who has pre-existing depression, it is possible that they may be more treatment resistant and have a history of failing medications. So as a result, they may require more aggressive treatment that can take several weeks and even into several months, depending on how they present,” said Dr. Daniel Bober, a psychiatrist in Hollywood, Florida.
“In someone who’s already had depression even before their stroke, this puts him at much greater risk and requires much more aggressive treatment,” Bober said.
Fetterman’s symptoms for depression included weight loss and loss of appetite, a source familiar with the matter said. He was not suicidal, the source said. His lack of eating and drinking water contributed to lightheadedness. He was hospitalized earlier this month in Washington, DC, after feeling lightheaded. His office said he had not had another stroke.
“Generally, the reason that someone presents to a hospital for a psychiatric condition like depression is because either they are acutely suicidal or they have been deemed unable to take care of themselves. And when I say unable to take care of themselves, I mean, their basic needs – food, hydration, hygiene – are all things that they’re required to do on a daily basis, and they are unable to do this due to the severity of their depression,” Bober said.

I don't know how connected Cardillo truly is, but is it possible that Fetterman's recent hospitalization for "lightheadedness" (just before the psych confinement) really stemmed from another serious - perhaps totally debilitating - stroke?

The Democrats will desperately try to keep the seriousness of his condition under wraps. I’m not entirely familiar with Pennsylvania election laws but should Fetterman be deemed unable to perform the duties of office this early in the term, a special election must be held.

There has to be some law, standard or statute that at least establishes a minimum level of human functionality.

With Fetterman in there, a Manchin or Sinema defection would have been countered with a tie-breaking vote from the VP. But with Fetterman unable to vote, a Manchin or Sinema defection means that the Dems lose (provided that no Republicans cross over, for which there is no guarantee). A 50-49 split means that the VP doesn't get to vote.

The #Fetterman story didn't make sense on day one. Hospitalization for depression is to avoid self harm and is unpredictable but usually a few days. Doctors wouldn't know and announce on day 1 how long, especially saying it would take weeks.
Now stroke rehab, OTOH, easily weeks.

It really doesn't add up. No way a doctor would announce at admission how long it would take until a patient is no longer at risk of self harm. And they definitely would NEVER say weeks, especially when the average length of stay for depression is days.

A senior aide tells me both the staff and Fetterman himself were taken by surprise by the severe onset of depression.
The aide also says this hasn't compromised his ability to do the job going forward, and he will be back to work once he has taken care of his mental health.

The New York Times wrote a full spread actually suggesting that it is normal for a senator to co-sponsor legislation that he’s not even aware of. That’s the best defense they could come up with for a guy who not only can’t perform the duties of his office, but can’t even hold a conversation with someone.
The entire point of electing a representative is that they make decisions in the interests of their constituents. In all my time covering politics, I have never once heard of a Senate staff co-sponsoring legislation for their boss without his or her knowledge. That’s so insane and contrary to the electoral system as to be scandalous all on its own. We aren’t supposed to be a government run by staff proxies. US senators are expected to carry out basic duties, and one of those is being aware of bills they are sponsoring. ...
... In the article, it says that Gisele Fetterman is only visiting her husband once a week. I don’t know about you, but if my wife were in the hospital, and I dipped out to Canada and then only visited her once a week, she might be just a bit upset. What is going on here?
That’s a question we aren’t likely to get an answer to anytime soon. The press is far too invested in protecting Fetterman to get to the bottom of anything.

John Fetterman is making progress in his recovery from clinical depression and could leave Walter Reed within next two weeks, a person close to the senator told me. The senator's physician recently informed him that he will be “as good or better than his best days post-stroke.
"Fetterman's stay has lasted this long because the doctors have been trying to get his "medication balance exactly right," per source. For instance, doctors learned his blood pressure med was too high, which may have contributed to dizziness when he went to GW hospital last month

New Health Update on John Fetterman Is the Most Insulting Yet

John Fetterman remains institutionalized and unable to perform the duties of his office following his admission for severe depression. Now, we finally have an “update” on his situation.
As RedState previously reported, the Pennsylvania senator and his staff have provided very little in the way of information for the public, though they have staged a few photos of him “working” for the compliant press to fawn over.
Making the situation even weirder, Gisele Fetterman ran off to Canada after her husband initially went into the hospital, posting a long social media screed in which she didn’t even mention him. Some weeks later, People Magazine, in an article meant to drool over Gisele Fetterman being a volunteer firefighter, revealed that she’s only been visiting her husband once a week.
So what’s the latest update? According to CNN’s Manu Raju, Fetterman is “making progress in his recovery from clinical depression” and will be “as good or better than his best days post-stroke.”

Putting that out is insulting. I know the assumption is that most Americans are either too stupid or too busy to pay attention to political gas-lighting, but truly, this is next-level stuff.
John Fetterman has clinical depression, and by his own admission, he has a severe diagnosis of it. Clinical depression is not like a virus. You don’t just go to the hospital, sit around, pop some meds, and come out good as new a few weeks later. Rather, it’s often a life-long struggle of balancing medication and one’s personal life in order to mitigate the effects. This idea that Fetterman is going to get a new drug cocktail and suddenly be “cured” is farcical. That’s not how depression works.
Further, the circumstance which triggered Fetterman’s worsening depression was his working in Washington, DC. How is he going to return to his life and not suffer another relapse if he changes absolutely nothing about it? This is a man who needs to be at home with his family. Presumably, that would include an attentive wife. Going back to the doldrums and stresses of politics, remaining isolated from those he loves will only exacerbate his situation.

Even if he were magically and completely cured of depression - which is not the way these things happen, as we know - the severe cognitive deficiencies resulting from the stroke still render him unfit to do the job.

I have a co worker who thought it was ridiculous for the Republican party to nominate somebody like Donald Trump.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) will reportedly make his return to the U.S. Senate the week of April 17 after checking himself into the hospital for “clinical depression” in February.
“Sen. John Fetterman plans to return to the Senate the week of April 17 after more than a month of inpatient treatment for depression, according to two people with direct knowledge of his plan,” Politico reported on Wednesday.
The Pennsylvania senator checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in February, where he began receiving treatment on a voluntary basis for “clinical depression” after being examined by doctors, according to a statement from Fetterman’s chief of staff, Adam Jentleson, at the time.
It was the second time the senator had been in the hospital within weeks. The week before, Fetterman was hospitalized for “clinical depression,” he made a hospital visit after he “began feeling lightheaded.” At the time, Fetterman’s communications director, Joe Cavello, said that “initial tests did not show evidence of a new stroke” but that more tests would be run.
Fetterman’s return will be greatly welcomed by Senate Democrats, who have a slim majority, since it would ultimately help fend off Republican-led bills. Since he left the Senate for the hospital, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) also announced that she would miss some time in the Senate to receive treatment for shingles.
The move by both senators left the Democrats without an outright majority and a struggle to get bills passed and deals made in their absence.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) is set to return to the Senate the week of April 17, two Democratic sources told The Hill.
A source close to Fetterman confirmed he will return once the Senate comes back from its upcoming two-week recess. The Pennsylvania progressive has been absent from the Senate since mid-February after checking himself into Walter Reed Medical Military Hospital with clinical depression.
Prior to Wednesday, Fetterman’s team has declined to lay out a timeline for the senator’s return, saying he was recovering well and would return “soon.” They had also released photographs of the senator meeting with chief of staff Adam Jentleson while hospitalized to discuss a number of matters related to the upper chamber.

The Senate does not allow Proxy voting, he, himself must be in the Chamber to cast a vote. But if he's well enough to lift a finger, they can wheel him in on a gurney and vote the way she tells him.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) was discharged from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Friday, after spending several weeks receiving in-patient treatment for depression.
“I am extremely grateful to the incredible team at Walter Reed,” Fetterman said in a statement. “The care they provided changed my life. I will have more to say about this soon, but for now I want everyone to know that depression is treatable, and treatment works.”
“This isn’t about politics — right now there are people who are suffering with depression in red counties and blue counties,” he continued. “If you need help, please get help.”
The Pennsylvania senator will spend the next two weeks back home in the Keystone State while the Senate is in recess and will return to Washington, D.C., when the session resumes on April 17, his office said.

John Fetterman has finally been released from the hospital after suffering from a reported bout of severe depression. The Pennsylvania senator has long been at the center of controversy surrounding his ailing health, largely centering on the massive stroke he had prior to the 2022 election.
Since then, Fetterman has deteriorated in ways that would have led to immediate calls for his resignation were he not a member of the Democratic Party. He can’t speak properly, he can’t understand others properly, and he relies on a closed captioning device to communicate.
It’s good to be a Democrat, though, and the press has been rushing to cover for him since day one. That continued on Friday with an interview with CBS News that did nothing but raise a multitude of questions.

For starters, is this guy a US senator or not? I’m not trying to downplay his condition. Quite the contrary, but the Senate is not a place to battle depression, much less serious health issues that leave one unable to communicate. The question at hand isn’t how brave Fetterman supposedly is. It’s whether he can do his job, and he obviously can’t. That should be the top issue for every single person who interviews him. Instead, they lavish him with praise while helping him hide his actual condition. It’s dystopian.

John Fetterman has broken his silence over his crippling depression diagnosis that left him unable to eat and confined to his bed after being discharged from hospital following more than six weeks of inpatient treatment at Walter Reed.
In an upcoming interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Sen. John Fetterman disclosed that his depression symptoms worsened after he was elected to the US Senate in November in the mid-term election's most expensive contest.
'The whole thing about depression,' he said, 'is that objectively you may have won, but depression can absolutely convince you that you actually lost and that’s exactly what happened and that was the start of a downward spiral.'
Fetterman, 53, said he 'had stopped leaving my bed, I’d stopped eating, I was dropping weight, I’d stopped engaging in some of the most — things that I love in my life.'
He checked into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on February 15 after weeks of what aides described as Fetterman being withdrawn and uninterested in eating, discussing work or partaking in banter with staff.
