Neiman Marcus hit by hackers stealing credit card data
Neiman Marcus joins Target and other department stores hit by hackers stealing credit card data.

Neiman Marcus joins Target and other department stores hit by hackers stealing credit card data, the upscale retail chain confirmed this weekend.

"The security of our customers' information is always a priority and we sincerely regret any inconvenience," Neiman Marcus posted on its Twitter account Saturday. "We are taking steps, where possible, to notify customers whose cards we know were used fraudulently after purchasing at our stores."

The security breach was first disclosed by security blogger Brian Krebs, who said sources in the financial sector told him there had been a rapid increase in the number of fraudulent charges on credit cards and debit cards of customers who had shopped at Dallas-based Neiman Marcus recently.

On his blog, Krebs on Security, Krebs said the store is working with the U.S. Secret Service to investigate the theft and that it has no indication that the crime is related to the high-profile theft of credit card data from Target Corp.

Target made news lately with the revelation that up to 70 million people may have had their credit card or debit card numbers and other personal information stolen during a data break-in. The information for credit cards of customers stolen was for those who used the swipe machines at a Target store for purchases between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15.

Neiman Marcus has 79 stores across the country, including Bergdorf Goodman, Horchow, Cusp and Last Call.

I can assure you that Neiman Marcus and Target were for more secure than the Obamacare web site and many state exchanges. Its only a matter of time.
