CHIPS and Ships: Time to Stop Gambling with U.S. Seapower
PUBLISHED MAY 14, 2024
@ 8:00 AM

By Rebecca Grant, Ph.D.
Question: What do America’s semi-conductor manufacturers have in common with America’s naval shipyards?

Answer: Both are critical to national security, and both are in danger of falling behind China.

China is building 18 new semi-conductor fabs in 2024. Last year, China churned out 30 navy combat ships while the US delivered 2, according to Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

The Biden administration has rightly made advanced semi-conductor manufacturing a strategic priority via the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) and Science Act of 2022. In March, President Joe Biden announced up to $8.5 billion in direct funding, along with $11 billion in loans under the CHIPS and Science Act for Intel’s Ocotillo campus in Chandler, Arizona.

President Joe Biden proposed two dates to debate former President Donald Trump Wednesday morning, with a list of guardrails including no live audience, according to The New York Times.

Biden suggested that Trump and himself face off in two televised debates, one in June and one in September, though the president said he will not participate in an event put on by the Commission on Presidential Debates, according to the NYT. The president also said he did not want to debate in front of a live audience, rather his team wants the debates held in a television studio to avoid the reaction from in-person viewers.

“Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020. Since then, he hasn’t shown up for a debate. Now he’s acting like he wants to debate me again. Well, make my day, pal, I’ll even do it twice,” Biden said in a Wednesday debate message.

“So let’s pick dates Donald, I hear you’re free Wednesdays,” the president continued, alluding to Trump’s court appearances.

As a part of their debate dates proposal Biden also only wants networks that hosted the 2016 Republican primary debates and the 2020 Democratic primary debates in 2020, the NYT reported. Those networks include CNN, ABC News, Telemundo and CBS News.

Joe Biden's outlandish plan to crush middle America
Biden plans to increase taxes, cut child tax credit, discourage investments
By Rep. Jason Smith Fox News

Joe Biden thinks he has the solution to stagnant growth and high inflation.

His plan? Biden wants to raise your taxes.

This might sound like a bad joke, but it’s reality. President Biden wants to raise taxes at a time when many Americans are struggling to put food on the table and fill up the tank.

Biden wants to raise taxes in a multitude of ways that will harm hard-working families and destroy American innovation.

For starters, he wants to let the Trump tax cuts expire. I’m not just saying that, that’s a promise Biden is making. He recently said in a speech, "It’s going to expire, and if I’m re-elected it’s going to stay expired." He then doubled down on that promise with a social media post echoing that statement.

Let’s be clear about what letting the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act expire will mean.

Hunter Biden team tells Delaware court they're 'not ready' for gun trial date
Judge Maryellen Noreika appeared adamant a trial should begin June 3

Hunter Biden's legal team appeared to seek a delay for his impending June 3 trial date in Delaware, which was set by a federal judge two months ago.

The first son was not in attendance Tuesday at the federal courthouse in Delaware's largest city, Wilmington, but attorney Abbe Lowell as well as Special Counsel David Weiss were. Weiss sat in court taking notes during the proceedings.

Special counsel attorney Derek Hines told the court the Biden matter is a "simple case," and that he was prepared to go forward with U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika's June 3 trial date.

But Tuesday afternoon, Noreika rejected Hunter Biden’s request to delay the trial. His case will go to trial next month, according to the Associated Press.

Hines predicted the trial would take less than a week.
