CNN's Jake Tapper calls out Republicans who turned down interviews after shootings
By Rebecca Klar - 08/04/19 11:15 AM EDT

"State of the Union" host Jake Tapper on Sunday called out a group of Republican lawmakers that he said declined to appear on the CNN show to discuss two deadly mass shootings in Texas and Ohio.

"We should note we invited the Republican governor, lieutenant governor and both Republican U.S. senators representing Texas this morning, they all declined," Tapper said, before speaking with his guests on Sunday.

"The Republican governor of Ohio also declined. We also asked the White House to provide someone to discuss these shootings, that request too was declined."

Why wouldn't a public official, who is hired through popularity contest, agree to be the scapegoat for a mass shooter?  Cowards, I tell you.

I’m thinking they might be a little busy, right now.

After the way CNN set up the "town hall" verbal-lynching of Dana Loesch after Parkland, why in Hades would any thinking R politician give CNN the time of day, local or GMT?

Perhaps, besides having better things to do, as @edpc posted, maybe they anticipated Tapper would try this stunt: (https://townhall.com/tipsheet/bethbaumann/2019/08/04/watch-cnns-tapper-presses-el-paso-mayor-to-condemn-trump-discuss-white-nationalism-his-response-is-perfect-n2551142)

"Former Congressman from El Paso, Beto O'Rourke, told me earlier in the show that, in his view, the president's anti-immigrant rhetoric is making things worse and creating an atmosphere of violence. Do you agree? Do you have any concerns about the things President Trump says about immigrants?" Tapper asked.

"Jake, I'm not qualified to make a comment on that. I'm not a talking head. I'm focusing on the El Pasoans and the 20 deaths, their families and what it means to this community and how we can come together and not be victimized by this," Margo responded. ...

"The Texas Land Commissioner, George P. Bush, said in a statement that 'white terrorism' is a 'real and present threat that we must all denounce and defeat.' Do you agree that white terrorism is a threat to the United States?" Tapper asked

"Jake, I'm not qualified to respond to that anymore than the previous question," Margo said. "I'm focusing on El Paso. There's evil in this world and it's unfortunate."

Anyone surprised, after fending off Tapper twice, that Mayor Margo is an R?
