Drax To Build Wood Power Cargo Ship
MAY 15, 2024

By Paul Homewood

British power company Drax has drawn up plans for the world’s first wood-powered cargo ship, claiming that the controversial power source can help to cut greenhouse gas emissions from sea freight.

Drax, which operates a tree-burning power station in the UK, has signed a deal with three Japanese shipping companies to develop a “bioship” fuelled by wood chips instead of marine diesel. It hopes to see the first wood-fuelled cargo ship set sail by 2029.

The vessel would itself be used to ferry woodchips harvested by Drax from North American forests to new markets in Japan.

Drax and its Japanese partners said such ships would open the way to zero-emission shipping for many other cargoes.

Michigan Government: Stacked Top to Bottom with Donor-provided Climate Activist “Staff”
2 hours ago Guest Blogger 1 Comment

From Government Accountability & Oversight

With Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel filing the “climate” lawsuit that campaign supporter Michigan LCV had lobbied her to file against energy companies, and the UM law school faculty putting the shoulder to the wheel as well, GAO recalls the recently unearthed record of just how occupied Michigan’s government is with donor-financed “climate staff”.

First, recall Nessel’s embrace of taking in an activist lawyer provided by Michael Bloomberg to file this suit, just as Bloomberg-provided lawyers have filed numerous others for AGs from New York to Oregon:

And Michigan’s Public Service Commission asking for Bloomberg-provided “staff”, brokered by a renewable energy trade association “founded and funded” by Tom Steyer to push his agenda:

'West Point' for Democratic operatives hired director who called terrorism the 'dream of politics'
Story by Hannah Grossman • 1h •

The Democratic National Convention will be the loudest, scariest yet: Hanson
FIRST ON FOX – The "West Point for Democratic operatives," which credits itself for aiding President Biden's victory, hired a digital director, who previously shared that "terrorism is the dream of politics."

Johannah King-Slutzky landed the digital director gig at the Democratic-aligned The Arena during the Fall in 2019, a few years after she had made a post discussing "terrorism" on her personal blog.

"Terrorism is the dream of politics — ultimate togetherness, ultimate realness — in a way that neuters criticism," the post on JKS's personal blog said prior to her hire. "The point is this: Terrorism (and American anti-terrorism) are compelling because they assert themselves as real (unlike iconoclastic art). And that realism is compelling (1) because it halts criticism, and (2) my point- it fulfills the dream of the political."
King-Slutzky describes herself as a "full-service digital comms expert for progressive and leftist causes" on her LinkedIn. She recently made headlines for her leadership at the anti-Israel encampment at Columbia University, telling members of the media that protesters who took over a building were at risk of dying or becoming severely ill if authorities did not allow "humanitarian aid" to flow.

Summary from 1440 Daily Digest (a daily email news compilation):
Quote
Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico was hospitalized but is expected to survive after he was shot yesterday in the central town of Handlova. A suspect was arrested in what officials are calling a politically motivated assassination attempt.

Video shows Fico arriving to shake hands with supporters after a political event when a man in a button-down shirt appeared to shoot at him at least five times at close range (see video, warning: sensitive content). One bullet went through Fico's stomach while another hit his joint, according to one official. Fico was subsequently rushed off by helicopter to a hospital, where he underwent surgery.

Little has been publicly released about Fico's attacker, though elected officials blamed a divisive political atmosphere for the attempt. Fico is a longtime pro-Russian leader in Slovakia, serving for 10 years since 2006 before being reelected last year on promises to reduce the flow of military aid to Ukraine. While his political party leans left, he is an ally to Hungary's right-wing Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Mexico flying Venezuelan migrants out of Juarez
Story by Julian Resendiz • 10h •

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – The Mexican government on Wednesday flew dozens of Venezuelans from Juarez to a detention facility in southern Mexico.

A Border Report camera crew captured the migrants in plastic cuffs waiting outside the National Migration Institute offices at the Ysleta-Zaragoza International Bridge to board a bus that would take them to Juarez International Airport.

From a distance, some could be heard pleading to be taken to the Venezuelan embassy in Mexico City instead of a detention center in Chiapas, on the border with Guatemala. A man in a yellow shirt appeared to be crying.

Officials said some of the migrants had been expelled from the United States recently while others were picked up in Juarez.
