Former President Donald Trump will hold a campaign rally in the South Bronx next week, and his first major gathering of supporters in his native state since his first White House bid comes on the heels of a record-breaking event at the Jersey Shore.

The May 23 rally will take place at 6 p.m. in Crotona Park, and the Trump campaign has a permit for up to 3,500 people to attend, his campaign announced Friday.

Trump, 77, is expected to speak on the Empire State’s economy, crime rate and migrant crisis. It’s his first rally in his birth state since Buffalo in 2016.

“New Yorkers have suffered greatly thanks to Biden’s failed policies,” Team Trump said in the announcement.

Bruce is an excellent pianist, imho. My brother has one of his later cds (no charting hits) that is really good. I'll have to remember to ask him the name.

On a personal note, I saw Bonnie Raitt and he backed her up several times during the concert. When she did I Can't Make You Love Me with him...it was so beautiful I darn near cried. And I'm not a weepy person. Her vocals were so pure and his playing was excellent.

Though I haven't been much of the genre, you are absolutely right about Raitt.  She has that tone and sexiness that somewhat disappeared when Stevie Nicks stopped recording.  At least I think she pretty much has stopped.

As far as soft rockers, as much as I hate his politics, Jackson Browne is my favorite  when he goes in that direction   I remember watching an Eagles documentary, and Frey/Henley were marveled and amazed at Browne's incredible ability to sit down at a piano and pull great music out of the thin air.   Since the early 1980's, I think a lot of his life choices have rotted his brain.  Incredible how many great musical artist nosedive after going ultra-activist.  And I say that in sincerity, be it Jackson Browne, or Ted Nugent.

Special council urges judge to move forward with Hunter Biden trial despite delay attempts
May 18, 2024 | Kevin Haggerty

While Hunter Biden’s defense attorneys sought a nearly three-month trial delay, the federal prosecution responded with a reality check on how President Joe Biden’s son is “like any other defendant.”

Trials for the first son’s federal gun charges in Delaware and his tax evasion charges in California have both been slated to begin in June. Though previously accepted by the defense, Biden’s attorneys have filed for delays with the respective courts, and special counsel David Weiss was having none of it.

“No defendant would be afforded a continuance because he wrongly chose to lodge a jurisdictionless appeal, and this defendant should be treated no differently,” wrote Weiss in a Friday filing opposing any delay to the June 20 trial start. “Defense counsel offers a handful of other reasons why he wants a trial delay of 77 days, but none of them warrant a continuance. The motion should be denied.”

Key to the prosecution’s multi-pronged argument was the fact that at multiple times, Biden’s defense had agreed to the trial dates despite a now-claimed potential conflict with the Delaware case slated to begin little more than two weeks earlier.

“In his latest effort to delay trial (an application for continuance), defendant’s lead counsel’s primary reason is the weeklong June 3, 2024, trial in Delaware at which he is one of the lawyers representing the defendant with respect to firearms charges,” wrote the special counsel. “But on March 13, 2024, and again on April 11, 2024, lead counsel told the Delaware court he was able to try the gun case in Delaware on June 3, 2024, with full knowledge that this trial would begin on June 20, 2024, per this Court’s order several months earlier.”

‘Extremely Alarmed’: Strategists Break Down Major Red Flag For Democrats In Latest Polling

A polling anomaly in the latest numbers from the New York Times and Siena College has Republican strategists predicting more good news to come for the GOP.

The NYT and Siena released a survey Monday showing former President Donald Trump leading President Joe Biden across five key swing states: Nevada, Georgia, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Of registered voters, 33% said they would vote for Biden if the election was held in May with Trump getting 40% of the vote.

But while Biden trails Trump by a healthy margin, the down-ballot races are a different story. Senate Democrats are doing much better across the same states states, with 45% of voters choosing Democrats as opposed to 40% of voters choosing Republicans.

The numbers could paint a rosy picture for Senate Democrats, but several strategists told the Daily Caller it could be fool’s gold, adding that an unpopular Biden could affect Democrats down ballot as the election goes on.

“It shows you the depths of disappointment that most voters have with Biden, whether they’re Democrats or Republicans. There’s just a lot of disappointment in Biden. If I were Biden, I would be extremely alarmed by this gap that you’ve got voters out there saying, ‘yeah, I’d like to vote for this Democratic senator, but not Joe Biden.’ That is a huge red flag for them,” longtime Kentucky Republican strategist Scott Jennings told the Daily Caller.

Trump predicts 'jacked up' Biden at upcoming debates, blasts Bidenomics in battleground speech
Trump said he was going to 'demand a drug test' for Biden ahead of any debates

It's been more than 50 years since a Republican won Minnesota in a presidential election, but former President Trump says he's got "a really good shot" of breaking the losing streak this November in his 2024 rematch with President Biden.

The former president is in the historically reliable blue state Friday evening to headline the Minnesota GOP’s annual Lincoln Reagan fundraising dinner. He began his speech with the usual jabs at Biden's cognitive ability, but also referenced the recently agreed to debates between the two.

"He's going to be so jacked up for those, you watch," Trump joked, later saying he was going to "demand a drug test" for Biden before the debate.

The looming Biden tax hike
By
Washington Examiner
May 18, 2024 12:01 am
.

Democrats will use a misleading Congressional Budget Office report earlier this month to argue against extending 2017 tax cuts that jump-started the economy. Congressional Republicans would be wise to push back.

Former Vice President Mike Pence is urging them to do just that, writing that failure to renew the tax cuts “would be disastrous for the American people.”

“The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act created instant income growth for hardworking Americans, generated millions of new jobs, and brought back billions of dollars to the United States,” Pence wrote. “Household incomes saw real gains before Bidenomics took effect, and federal tax revenue has never been higher.”

Each of those claims is true. The 2017 bill cut individual income tax rates across the board, increased family tax credits, and, of huge importance, flattened corporate tax rates. It also simplified the tax code while eliminating loopholes.

Most of the cuts are set to expire at the end of 2025. Unless they are renewed, almost every working American effectively will see a punitive tax hike, while expiration of some business tax breaks will cause many firms to raise prices, slash jobs, or both.

Flaw and order: Jack Smith election case hangs on by a thread
By
Ashley Oliver

The Department of Justice’s election interference case against Donald Trump is in limbo, but even if it returns to normal proceedings, Jack Smith has an uphill climb to securing a conviction of the former president.

The special counsel, who is leading the prosecution, is at the mercy of the Supreme Court as it weighs two decisions relevant to his indictment. One of the decisions threatens to imperil the case, while the other could result in a small setback for Smith. The high court could hand down these decisions by the end of June.

But the Supreme Court aside, Smith also relies heavily on Trump’s speech as a means to incriminate him, and legal experts say that if the case resumes, Smith faces the difficult challenge of proving to jurors that the speech was not protected by the Constitution.
