Trump's and Ryan's ‘PASS TRUMPCARE OR ELSE!’ Nonsense Just Won’t Cut It

By Ben Shapiro
March 13, 2017

Republicans have come up with a new strategy to push Trumpcare: cram it down with threats. Those threats come courtesy of the Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) and the President of the United States. Never mind that Trumpcare doesn’t move the health care system toward a more free-market approach. Never mind that it doesn’t truly lower costs or foster more competition in any serious way, and that it re-enshrines the central principles of Obamacare.

Those who don’t support it will be browbeaten into it.

Here’s Ryan today:

Paul Ryan ✔ @PRyan
We ran on repeal and replace in 2010, 2012, 2014, and in 2016. Now we are keeping our word to the people who elected us.
11:47 AM - 13 Mar 2017

Ryan also threatened a “bloodbath” for Congressional Republicans in 2018 if they failed to pass his proposed bill. This followed hard on last week’s statements that Republicans could either have Ryan’s bill or nothing – that they now had a “binary choice…This is the closest we will ever get to repealing and replacing Obamacare.”

The binary choice language is nearly always crap. Americans live in a free country. We have lots of choices. But it’s especially stupid logic when we consider that Congress has scores of proposals, including a repeal bill they’ve already passed repeatedly, to get rid of Obamacare. The notion that it’s Ryan’s way or the highway isn’t true legally, politically, or ethically.

"One House Republican told The Washington Examiner, “The president will respond as circumstances dictate. He has unique capacities; I wouldn’t want to be the one he tests them out on.” "

Meanwhile, President Trump is swinging around town threatening to primary those who are too conservative to vote
for his hot garbage proposal. Speaking at a House meeting with Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA), Trump apparently stated
that he’d intervene to attempt to oust anyone who crossed him on the legislation. One House Republican told
The Washington
Examiner, “The president will respond as circumstances dictate. He has unique capacities; I wouldn’t want to be the one
he tests them out on.”

So, this is what Republicans got when they bargained that Trump would repeal and replace Obamacare? Obamacare Lite,
crammed down through threats and fulminations?

Congresspeople serve us. They do not serve Trump. Trump serves us. He does not serve himself. If both our Congressional
leaders and Trump feel the necessity to abandon core principles in order to press forward a bad bill, they should feel the heat
from the voters. They have a binary choice: they can either do what they promised to do, or feel our wrath at the polls in
2018. And that wrath won’t be restricted to red districts where conservative legislators stood up in favor of free markets.

Nor do we serve them.

Donaldus Minimus also needs to learn that there is nothing in the Constitution that says Congress must do the
bidding of the president. If the president recommends legislation and the legislation is sound, of course Congress
would be foolish to reject it, but it is their prerogative to do so just as it's the president's to veto it, just as it's
Congress's to override a veto if they can.

Who'd have thought we'd see the days (this didn't exactly begin with Donaldus Minimus and company, they merely
show it flagrantly and shamelessly, and in ways over which Droopy Drawers Clinton, President Lips II, and His Excellency
Obama must drool with envy) when the president and his assorted sycophants on Crapola Hill needed civics lessons?

@EasyAce

Probably the worst part of it, for me, is that so many of Trump's supporters thrill to this kind of crap from him.  They swoon over his "strength."  There's no excuse for it.

Those of whom you speak confuse ballyhoo, bluster, and bullythink with strength. Real strength requires intellectual,
spiritual, and constitutional fortitude.

The current republican "leadership" sucks a BIG one.  If the rank and file follow them down this road they are commiting mass suicide IMHO.

Yet the Trump supporters simply ignore Trump making the threats and blame everybody else.

Its like an ideological version of Jonestown.

@Cripplecreek

As though he's a wounded innocent, but that isn't the case.  He stated that he will sign the bill if it comes to his desk.

And threatened to primary those republicans who don't vote for it.

If only.... these same bleep "Republicans" could be or have been as forceful and authoritarian with the damned Democrats since, oh...say, since 2014.  But I guess showing that kind of guts and fortitude would be asking too much when dealing with the REAL opposition.
