It's all up to the listener but one thing I know is that you don't hear female vocal back up like you do in some of the old songs and that makes them gems... as in ... (and I'm not going to repost Johnny Horton those are in the "Share" thread but his songs did it well too such as "The Mansion You Stole", great backing female chorus or vocals):
Wynn Stewart - It's Such A Pretty World
Error 404 (Not Found)!!1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqSjSC7o4tU#)
No female choruses, I think those were already starting to disappear in the '70s, Earl Thomas Conley left the central country music industry because he thought the modernity and commercialism wasn't too good, some harken back to Patsy Cline, etc. and that is good.
Good female backing vocals here:
Connie Smith - Tiny Blue Transistor Radio
Error 404 (Not Found)!!1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGqd2brJx5k#)
Now, I don't think this is in particularly a great song, it is pretty good but the lyrics:
"... and the man at the radio station made a special dedication to Jimmy... etc. " okay,
Compare to Gram Parsons' "Return of the Grievous Angel":
"...and the man on the radio won't leave me alone". I've got to think Gram Parson heard Connie Smith's song of a few years before, not a big deal.
Gram Parsons - Return of the Grievous Angel
Error 404 (Not Found)!!1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_Iz0iVvhEc#)
Real good, great but maybe not on the same par as the others.... he died very young, he could have gained a bit more experience and was on the right track definitely.
BTW, today is the 9th? August 16th is when Elvis passed away, so, if I'm not here, one might remember that....

4 Strong Winds was written by Ian Tyson of Ian and Sylvia, they certainly came up with some good songs (Someday Soon), they were somewhat ahead of their time, sort of country-rock.

Miller's Cave - Charlie Pride
Error 404 (Not Found)!!1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uu9wmk4L2NM#)
A lot of this I heard off the all-night trucking stations so that's probably why I'm partial to a number of songs, others have confirmed it... "Miller's Cave" was recorded by Don Williams, Bobby Bare, Hank Snow, Gram Parsons... I like Charlie Pride's version. "Miller's Cave" almost seems like an allegory, there may be a physical place where it exists but, in a way, it seems like a mental state as well.. I can hear it that way, "they'll never find me because I'm lost in Miller's cave", Jack Clement wrote it, Clement also wrote for example, "Ballad of a teenage queen"... lost of people plied their songwriting talents.

Back then, some of these songs I'd cassette record off the radio, this first one, great country or not? I don't know. Commercial but always liked it... and Dickey Lee is still with us, he was a bit around some of the early '60s rock and roll with so-so success. Over at youtube, there are videos related to the language used over there in South East Asia I think per karaoke... so a bit of a pop success. Maybe an after-thought to the ? Mark and the Mysterians "99 Tears"......the song was recorded before Dickey Lee's version. Sometimes, arrangement, production makes the song as well.

Brown Mountain Lights
The Brown Mountain Lights are a series of ghost lights reported near Brown Mountain in North Carolina. The lights can be seen from the Blue Ridge Parkway at mile posts 310 (Brown Mountain Light overlook) and 301 (Green Mountain overlook) and from the Brown Mountain Overlook along North Carolina Highway 181 (NC 181), near Jonas Ridge, North Carolina. Additionally, good sightings of the lights have been reported from the top of Table Rock and Wiseman's View, both located in the Linville Gorge Wilderness. The best time of year to see them is reportedly September through early December .

Loretta Lynn Says She Believes Country Music Is 'Dead': 'I Think It's a Shame to Let It Die'
Helen Murphy
Loretta Lynn is not shying away from sharing her opinions about today’s country music.
During a recent interview on Martina McBride‘s podcast Vocal Point with Martina McBride, available on Luminary, the country legend pronounced the genre “dead,†adding that “we should never let country music die.â€
“They’ve already let it [die],†Lynn, 87, told McBride. “I think it’s dead. I think it’s a shame. I think it’s a shame to let a type of music die. I don’t care what any kind of music it is. Rock, country, whatever. I think it’s a shame to let it die, and I’m here to start feeding it.â€

Most sources would say Kitty Wells (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitty_Wells#Biography) is very important in the formation of country female singers

Jan Howard, Country Singer and Longtime Grand Ole Opry Member, Dies at 91
3/29/2020 by Ashley Iasimone
Jan Howard, country singer and songwriter and longtime member of the Grand Ole Opry, died on Saturday (March 28) in Gallatin, Tenn., at the age of 91.
Howard, born Lula Grace Johnson, began her career in music by singing on demos written by then-husband Harlan Howard that were recorded by Nashville acts like Kitty Wells and Charlie Walker, and had her first own country hit with "The One You Slip Around With" in 1960.
Other notable singles she released as a solo artist -- which made Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart -- included "Evil on Your Mind" (1966), "Bad Seed" (1966) and "My Son" (1968), an emotional track written for one of her sons, Jimmy, who was soon after killed in action in Vietnam. She received Grammy nominations for both "Evil on Your Mind" and"My Son."

Country star Jan Howard celebrates 91st birthday
By Markos Papadatos Mar 13, 2020 in Music
On March 13, 2020, veteran country music star and Grand Ole Opry member Jan Howard celebrated her 91st birthday. Digital Journal has the scoop.
With this birthday milestone, Howard is the oldest living member of the hallowed Grand Ole Opry. She began her career in the country music industry as a demo vocalist, where she was the first singer to record such classic country songs as Patsy Cline's "I Fall to Pieces," Ray Price's "Heartaches by the Number," and Patsy Cline's "She's Got You," among many other standards.

Throughout her tenure in the country music business, Howard earned two Grammy nominations for "Best Country Vocal Performance, Female" for such recordings as the Top 5 hit single "Evil On Your Mind" and "My Son."

I think she did quite a bit with Bill Anderson.
Looks like PBS even penned an article on her in regards to their show that was about Country Music.

Tammy Wynette was trained as a beautician and she never let her license lapse, even when she became a big star, tragic figure really, short life.
Tammy Wynette - Apartment #9.

Here is a story I vaguely recall about her:
A Battered Tammy Wynette Relives the Macabre Abduction That Nearly Killed Her
By Kristin McMurran and Dolly Carlisle October 23, 1978 12:00 PM
He opened the door, held the gun in his left hand and dragged me out of the car. Then he hit me with his fist. I thought, Oh, God, I’m gonna die…
This time, country singer Tammy Wynette’s anguished words were not lyrics in another of her hymns to hillbilly heartbreak but a chillingly vivid account from her own life. Two weeks ago, Wynette reports, she was kidnapped at gunpoint in Nashville by a stocking-masked man, taken on a harrowing 80-mile ride through the Tennessee back country, then beaten and choked and left hysterical on the roadside. A local family fortuitously discovered Tammy before her fractured cheekbone, severe bruises and shock produced worse complications. The apparently motiveless brutality—her $40 in cash and 30 credit cards were untouched, and she was not sexually assaulted—was described as “very puzzling†by Nashville detectives, as they stepped up their investigation.
“It was the most terrifying experience of my life,†whispers Tammy, 36, three times the Country Music Association’s Female Vocalist of the Year and the noticeably absent but chief topic of both sympathy and lurid speculation at last week’s televised awards. The former beautician’s tempestuous life (she was born Wynette Pugh) has already provided the stuff for dozens of country classics like Stand by Your Man even before her fling with Burt Reynolds and her clamorous 1975 D-I-V-O-R-C-E (another of her hits) from George Jones. He was her great longtime singing partner and the third of her five husbands.
