BREAKING: First Lady Melania Trump hospitalized in Maryland after undergoing successful embolization procedure to treat benign kidney condition - WH
@mystery-ak
@Freya
Was watching CNN when this came on. Doctor there said "embolization procedure" cuts off blood flow to tumor. She will be in hospital the rest of the week. White House said it is not cancer.
Now, if you cut off blood flow to something, it dies. If there is a tumor on or in the kidney, it is going to die and maybe that is why she will be there all this week; this may not be over -yet.
Trump was not at hospital when she had the surgery. He will go there sometime today - well, that is special, at least he is going at some time. They tried to say it would have taken a number of people to go with him if he went when she had the surgery - but he still has to take those same people when he goes later today - that excuse does not hold water (and maybe her kidney isn't processing that water like it should).
He has said he is afraid of germs. I think that is why he wasn't there for the surgery. In fact, he likely doesn't want to go there and may be afraid of her being in a hospital bed after having surgery - with maybe a germ somewhere he could catch. He is a wimp.
-
I would have been pissed if my husband didn't go with me and I don't care who he is..he is still my husband

I will stick with what I believe - Melania is furniture to him. And, if he wasn't president, he would exchange this furniture as fast as he could since the furniture is sick.

Well...he IS the president. And, this doesn't sound like major surgery - no part or limbs being removed, no drilling into the skull, etc. If it were me, I wouldn't find it any more reassuring whether my husband was in the waiting room or at the White House. I'd be unconscious.
-
Would have been nice if Trump had been there, but if the rumors about marital strife are true, perhaps Mrs. Trump didn't want him there anyway.
Whatever. I do wish Mrs. Trump well and pray she makes a full recovery.

True...but did she know it wasn't cancerous before..that is the question....besides I would still want him near although I know he would be sleeping in the waiting room..

Kidney Stones at age 48? Pretty young for that condition, but not out of the question I guess.

Two of my staff went down on the job with kidney stones. Both were healthy young men in their 20s.

@Suppressed
It's not kidney stones - one doesn't cut off blood to kidney stones - they are not attached to the body. This is a tumor/mass of some sort; they cut off the blood to it.
And she has to stay there for all this week. This is not over.
-
I would have been pissed if my husband didn't go with me and I don't care who he is..he is still my husband
I can't imagine not going, if I had a wife in distress like that.
-

Okay .. but I suspect you're not a very private person living in a fishbowl. I also suspect your husband travelling to the hospital would not have commanded secret service checkpoints, the press and a caravan of vehicles complete with flashing lights and an ambulance.
Maybe, just maybe .... this is the way Melania wanted to handle this. :shrug:

Yes, this is a procedure to shrink a tumor. Reports use the word "benign" condition, so I suspect this refers to the tumor's type.
Staying through the week helps manage her discomfort and allows for scans and other procedures to assess the success of the treatment.

He's there now with all his entourage...so it makes no difference when he went.
-
I would assume there was enough of a security issue with the First Lady being there with an emergency
medical conditon, adding to it the crowd that has to follow the President...might have just been a wee bit
more then Walter Reed could handle right about then. I am sure that husband and son will be there visiting
this evening.
Best of Wishes to the First Lady.
-
He's there now with all his entourage...so it makes no difference when he went.
But it does matter when he went. It's like the difference between flowers and a card and dinner at the Red Lobster!
-

Of course it does. This is AFTER the surgery ... not before. And she wasn't part of the entourage.
But, hell, let's string him up ... heaven knows he deserves it. (is "/s" necessary? ^-^)
-

LOL..If this was a scheduled surgery she would have been at the hospital at o'dark thirty. At that time of the morning there is no one on the streets in DC except the homeless and panhandlers...now if it was an emergency disregard what I said..lol
btw I like the coconut shrimp at Red Lobster..

This guy isn't some grease monkey at the Jiffy Lube where his absence from the scene isn't noticed. There were big things happening today and he needed to be where the action was. Not with some woman knocked out from surgery.
-
C’mon, now, guys......
Be Best.

I don't know how you can eat that poison. I am acutely allergic to iodine in any form and that means shrimp, crab, clam. I would be in the hospital if I ate that shrimp or the others - nausea, whole skin turns red, and chills for three days. I have a special pill to take if I accidently get any of those. You shouldn't eat that poison.
**nononono*
-
Not if Melania wanted the privacy and asked him not to go until after the surgery .... just saying.
I agree.
This could have all been planned, arranged, and agreed upon between the 2 of them.
It seems to be the most logical explanation.
-
@mystery-ak
Poster said: "Not with some woman knocked out from surgery."
The operative words are "some woman" - she is not "some woman", she is his wife.
Trump just landed at Walter Reed.
-
I'd have been fine if he sent some flowers and a card to her room and stayed at the WH.
I had no idea you were such a sensitive guy, Frank. I'm impressed. Or, something.
-
Doc says, catheter is inserted into blood vessel in the area and something like glue is put through there into the area to stop blood flow.
Heck, any of you can do this at home. Use pocket knife to make hole in skin. Stick plastic tube in there, forget about blood vessel, and put super glue down into tube into where you want the glue. Let me know when you do this. I'll send flowers to the funeral.
-

You sound like my dad who would drive my mom to the hospital then go home and wait for the call that the baby was born....
-
You sound like my dad who would drive my mom to the hospital then go home and wait for the call that the baby was born....
Wish I thought of that.
-
Maybe Melania was afraid he'd say something stupid to the doc prior to surgery. Best to save the stupid stuff until after surgery. Anyone ever think of that?
-
From what I’m seeing on Twitter, the procedure wasn’t a big deal, according to a couple of doctors and a medical tech.
-

@CatherineofAragon
There is possibility doc cut blood flow to mass so it gets smaller, then operate to take it out later in the week which would keep her in hospital now. Hope this is not the case.
-
Needless to say, the left is keeping it classy on Twitter.What must one do to get Twitter-"verified"? Be a complete pig?
It's not even funny.
-

I got a sarcoma diagnosis almost three years ago for my 36th birthday. If I told my husband I didn’t want him to be there for the surgery, he would have been there anyway come hell or high water. You are suggesting that Trump is a tremendous douche.
-
I would have been pissed if my husband didn't go with me and I don't care who he is..he is still my husband
I have had a few surgeries over the last few years. One, they had to do a biopsy. No cancer! But, I did not want my husband there at any of them. It is difficult enough to deal with the medical stuff without having someone there. Just leave me with the experts and I will have them call when I am up and coherent. If I have to stay, then he can come to say "hi and I love you" and then go home. lol And, he is the same way. We love each other dearly but hospitals are not fun to just hang around. And, I would feel the need to "entertain" any visitors.
That is just us, though. And, we don't have to worry about security and everything.
-
ABC News last night spent an inordinate amount of time emphasizing that Trump wasn't there for the surgery, did not mention that he did go to the hospital later and said nothing about Mrs. Trump's condition following the surgery. Disgraceful. The real story here should be about Mrs. Trump's health, but the news hounds could only engage in gossip and rumor-mongering.

Melania Trump's office asks for privacy after procedure
CNN, May 15, 2018
Washington (CNN) — The first lady's office has declined to offer further details about Melania Trump's kidney surgery and resulting extended hospital stay and asked for privacy.
"I am not going to expand beyond the statement I put out. The First Lady is in good spirits and she is resting. There are HIPAA laws to consider, but she also deserves personal privacy," the first lady's communications director, Stephanie Grisham, told CNN Tuesday when asked why the routine procedure would require a multi-day hospital stay.
The notoriously private first lady underwent the procedure Monday with no leaks beforehand from her small, close-knit East Wing staff.

-
Just because a procedure is described as "routine" doesn't mean the patient should or would be discharged the same day or the next day. Geez!
I sure hope the media jackals will let Mrs. Trump recuperate and not bother her staff with stupid questions.
