Mayor Bill de Blasio delivered a strong defense of organized labor and a pointed attack on Wisconsin governor Scott Walker in a speech to Democrats in Milwaukee on Saturday night.

"Right now, Wisconsin has a governor who seems to live in an alternate reality," de Blasio said at the fund-raising dinner, according to a transcript provided by his office. "Elected and re-elected by peddling a series of falsehoods, he told you teachers were the enemy, unions were the problem, and that progressive ideas were a thing of the past."

In one of his flashier lines, he said Walker "tries to play the everyman, then he stabs the everyman in the back."
