San Francisco Besieged by Homeless Demanding Free Hotel Rooms, Pot, and Booze

“People are showing up in San Francisco from other places and asking where their hotel room is.”
Wed May 13, 2020 Daniel Greenfield

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is an investigative journalist and writer focusing on the radical Left and Islamic terrorism.

“People are showing up in San Francisco from other places and asking where their hotel room is,” Mayor Breed complained.

“People are coming from all over the place, Sacramento, Lake County, Bakersfield,” Jeanine Nicholson, the first lesbian head of the San Francisco Fire Department, grumbled. “People are getting released from jail in other counties and being told to go to San Francisco, where you will get a tent and then you will get housing.”

The people coming to the City by the Bay weren’t wearing flowers in their hair, they were homeless junkies who had heard that they were going to get free hotel rooms, along with pot and booze.

And it was all true. Every word of it.

Well, I live about 50 miles south of SF and a galaxy away, so I would probably not be surprised. That said, what government subsidizes and enables it gets more of. SF has been demonstrating this for several decades.

San Francisco reporter details 'disaster' of city's 'hotels for homeless' program: 'It is pandemonium'

Thousands of homeless people have been housed in San Francisco’s empty hotels in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus.
...
"It's solving exactly nothing and as a matter of fact, it's making all the problems worse," said Sandberg, who described the scene inside the hotels as "about as bad as you can imagine, only exponentially worse."

"You are talking drug-fueled parties, overdoses, deaths, people are being assaulted. You have sexual assaults going on, it is pandemonium," she said. ...

City officials reportedly secured close to 5,000 rooms at several city hotels that signed up to house homeless and other members of at-risk populations who need to quarantine.
...
"The people who are assigned as disaster workers, these people have been librarians," Sandberg told host Brian Kilmeade. "They are just paper pushers, administrators who are reassigned to these hotels and what they are telling me is beyond the pale.

Sandberg lives in SF, so she's talking about things near where she lives. She also called attention to this lunacy back in May, so she's been following it, evidently. Whether they'll learn anything from it, I don't know, but I think it's salutary for SF bureaucrats to see and smell the insanity of SF's druggie/bum-enabling policies.

San Francisco’s experiment housing the homeless in hotels during pandemic working out as expected

During the initial phase of California’s Wuhan coronovirus closure, San Francisco and state officials decided it would be a great idea to use taxpayer dollars to rent hotel rooms for its homeless.

The experiment is working out as well as most sensible people expected.

Thousands of homeless people have been housed in San Francisco’s empty hotels in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus.

However, City Journal contributor Erica Sandberg told “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Wednesday the policy has been an “absolute disaster,”

You could put lowland gorillas in a hotel, too, and they wouldn't be much different than what they are trying to house now.

@rangerrebew

There would probably be less damage to the rooms, and nobody would get raped.
