Alex Salmond found himself in a bizarre stand-off with airline staff after booking on to a flight under the name James Kirk - the captain of Star Trek's USS Enterprise.
The former Scottish first minister caused confusion when British Airways initially refused to let him board a flight at Heathrow under the sci-fi alias.
The Mail on Sunday reported that it took a series of phone calls for the senior politician to persuade the airline that he should be allowed on board.
The former SNP leader said he often travelled under a false name for security reasons and he liked to use Captain Kirk's name as he is an avid Star Trek fan.
It was all sorted out. I just wanted BA to ‘beam me up, Scotty’.

This is the guy who screwed up the Scottish Independence referendum (from his point of view, at least).

The crew knew something was wrong when he kept standing up and screaming 'KHAAAAAAANNNN!!!!'

Is he using false documents or are airline screening processes in the UK more lax than here for citizens? Last time I flew into Heathrow, it was a security nightmare coming in and going out as a non-citizen. I can't imagine how one can get by using a false name.
-
Not lax in the slightest. The usual thing is for a false name to be put on the passenger manifest - IF there is sufficient reason - but your documents have to be you. Not that you have to show them to anyone other than the check in desk or kiosk for domestic flights.

This is a stupid little fun song. It is relevant to the topic at hand.

With all respects, you cannot and will never better this warrior. Especially in matters conserning silliness. You have not lived until you have read Shakespear in the original Klingon.

This Star Trek parody is the best:

The Wrath of Khan turned into an Italian opera (complete with operatic music).

I've been looking for the Mad parody, "Star Blecch, the Musical" but can't find decent page images.
