Eleventh Democratic Debate - CNN  8-10 ET, 3-15-2020

Quote
For many reasons, next Democratic debate won’t be like the others - The Boston Globe
Shirley Leung

I wrote about the 11th, penultimate Democratic debate on Monday, but, of course, the world has changed since then.

The event is still scheduled to take place Sunday night from 8 to 10, but it has been moved from Arizona to Washington, D.C. It was first set in Arizona because the state, along with Florida, Illinois, and Ohio, will hold its primary on Tuesday. Also, there will not be a live audience, as originally planned, when Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders take the stage.

Read version from  Boston Globe  (https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/03/13/arts/many-reasons-next-democratic-debate-wont-be-like-others/) See more at link.

And this may be the main theme of the night, Univision is streaming it too, maybe it will be on their channel. I don't know.

Quote
The Immigration Debate Democrats Need
James Gibney, Bloomberg•March 12, 2020

(Bloomberg Opinion) -- America’s immigration laws, which received their last major overhaul three decades ago, are fundamentally broken. Yet the future of U.S. legal immigration rarely surfaced during the dozen Democratic debates held since last June. This weekend’s debate offers Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders what may be the Democrats’ last chance to fill in that blank.

Yes, previous debates have featured plenty of podium-thumping denunciations of President Donald Trump’s inhumane asylum policies, vows of support for Dreamers and promises to restore America’s values and reputation as a nation of immigrants. Of the 25 questions that moderators asked about immigration (about 6% of all debate questions), however, all but two involved some aspect of unauthorized immigration.

For Democrats at least, the debate over what to do about the 11 million or so undocumented people already in this country isn’t much of a debate. Even when the field held more than 20 candidates, all of them backed a path to citizenship for those living here, a position supported by two-thirds of all Americans. (Michael Bloomberg, the founder and majority owner of Bloomberg LP, was a Democratic candidate until he endorsed Joe Biden on March 4.)

I’ve never seen in any debate the two candidates so far apart.

At least both men are being civil to each other. Most of it so far is in the economy and the health crisis.

Both also look like they've aged a decade overnight

Asked why his message may not be resonating with Hispanic voters, Joe Biden says, "My message is resonating across the board...In Virginia, turnout was up 70%. They voted for me. He didn't bring them out. I brought them out." http://

Dangerous:

Joe Biden just said "In his first 100 days in office, no one will be deported at all"

That means:

Murderers

Drug traffickers

Human smugglers

Arsonists

And sexual predators will NOT be deported?

Outrageous

This man cannot come close to the White House

Yellow square
Open borders
Purple square
Dismantle @ICEgov

Green square
No border wall/security
Orange square
ALL asylum cases granted

There's all these MAGA broads on twitter, they must get paid for this but I still like most of them, this is their job it seems like.

Biden claims he’s the first member of a presidential administration to publicly voice support for gay marriage.

Actually, that was Republican VP Dick Cheney:

Biden looked presidential tonight during a time of national crisis.

Bernie looked annoyed at basically every turn of this debate.

On the first small debate stage of the cycle, @joebiden
delivered. I'm not sure what @BernieSanders
 did.

Biden just said he would ban fracking and would also ban ALL drilling on federal lands.

There ought to be a news crawl, like on election night, showing the states these guys are losing NOW.

"Texas, North Dakota, Colorado, New Mexico ..."

Biden's promise to appoint a black female to the Court is a remarkable moment for the presidency. It is saying that there will be a race and gender prerequisite for appointments to the Court. This follows the pledge in the earlier debate to impose a litmus test on nominees.

Biden and Sanders didn't seem to even acknowledge each other as Sanders walked out at end of the debate. And no one shook hands, alleviating at least some of my anxiety.

Perhaps. But then it should also be illegal for people who don't pay taxes to vote for people who will make decisions that affect us all.

I must say, that was a VERY boring debate. Biden lied when he said I want to cut Social Security and Medicare. That’s what they ALL said 4 years ago, and nothing happened, in fact, I saved Social Security and Medicare. I will not be cutting, but they will. Be careful!
