"I once asked, 'if you're innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?" Now I know the answer to that question," he also said. "When your family, your company and all the people in your orbit have become the targets of an unfounded, politically motivated Witch Hunt ... you have no choice."
IMHO, Trump is sending out these notification in hopes that Maga mobs will protest those officials and agencies persecuting him. He's hoping that Maga mass protests will intimidate them to back off.
IMHO, Trump took the 5th Amendment because that is his Constitutional right. That's the simplest explanation.
IMHO, most of Trump's text is personal disparagement of a public official designed to illicit a mass response against her and her office.
Insulting me is a deflection from the validity of my opinion.
UPDATE: New York State Attorney General tests positive for apoplexy.

The best thing I've rread about this is Trump followed his attorney's advise and did not answer any questions and instead invoked his 5th Amendment right.
Halleluiah! Finally, Trump does something right.
"Trump has suggested on many occasions that people who invoke their right against self-incrimination are guilty. “You see the mob takes the Fifth,” Trump said during a 2016 rally in Iowa. “If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?"
So Trump is guilty by his own reasoning, right?

(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FZ1H_CQUcAALFP4?format=png&name=small)Maybe Trump should have just repeated 'I don't recall', that seemed to work well for Hillary when she was questioned about a little debacle that got Americans killed and the socialist press was just fine. But invoke your constitutional right at a kangaroo court fishing expedition and it's suddenly OMG!
He’s now changed his tune, and admitted as much.Yeah, he's changed his tune. But since it's Trump, that's perfectly fine, right?
The vast majority of people assume that if someone invokes their 5th Amendment right that they are guilty. They are wrong. So he was lying six years ago when he was slamming people who took the fifth and the crowds were cheering him?
So now that it has been established that Trump was wrong, but smart enough to listen to his attorney's can we assume you will be a big Trump supporter? After all it takes a big man to admit when they were wrong and change their attitude.

I thought Rinos were supposed to be the smart wing of the GOP
I've always worried that if he was in a court, or at a deposition, he would talk. It's the worst thing an innocent man can do. Attorneys make their living manipulating words and if Trump starts arguing with them he will end up walking right into a trap.
We are truly fortunate in this country that we do not have to answer questions if we don't want to, especially now that we've seen how corrupt the justice system in this country has become.

If I asked you point blank, what were doing September 7, 2019 at 3:57 p.m. how would you answer?
Fishing like this is an infamous tactic of the criminal FBI and the DOJ.
The state of our federal law enforcement reminds me of a very iconic and funny point during the show "Breaking Bad"

@goatprairieOnce again, it's sa good thing I was not drinking when I read this post.
Trump is in your head while you lay sleeping, isn't he?
I'm hoping Ron DeSantis will run in 2024.
Once again, it's sa good thing I was not drinking when I read this post.

I'll let Ron DeSantis speak for himself.
My vote and my money is just as good as anyone else's.
Since I'm being challenged on my conservative street cred, I voted for Pat Buchanan in the 1992 Republican Primaries. Is that conservative enough for you?
@Right_in_Virginia
Why would you have ever thought that? It was the RINO's,working with their Dim communist brothers, that got us into the mess we are in now.
Oops..... forgot to add the sarcasm tag @sneakypete
I'll let Ron DeSantis speak for himself.
My support was for DeSantis until this week. What happened at Marlago has galvanized the fact the swamp has to be torched, and bleached. Apparently only one man has the stomach for that.@catfish1957 What did DeSantis do or not do, that you no longer support him? He has no control over the FBI.
As much as I admire DeSantis, and hope he eventually becomes POTUS, we are now at war. I am not a 100% sure DeSantis, or Cotton for that matter will go squishy when it becomes crunch time.

It's not what he (DeSantis) did or not did, it was the earthquake and scorched earth approach that the deep state is taking to not lose control this week
I will support DeSantis in 2028, and if I am lucky to live that long 2032.
What has just happened in Marlago is a culmination of the fear that the swamp (long, wide, and deep) is so corrupt and entrenched, that the perps (which included GOP) are fearful of finally being exposed to the true level of corruption that is destroying us.
Right now, those tier II candidates including DeSantis, Cotton, Cruz, Noem have not proven they have the gumption to lead us into what has evidently become a political war.

More likely, he was making the same common misconception about the 5th Amendment rights that a lot of people make. He has now seen the error of that misconception. And if the person in question wasn't so biased or hateful of Trump they would have acknowledged that Trump explained his reason for changing his opinion, which I would bet dollars to donuts they read but get off on stirring the pot.

Perfect response!
It can't be said enough the 5th Amendment protects the innocent. Attorneys are very adept at manipulating words and in the process making the innocent seem guilty.
@goatprairieOnly when I'm sitting on the throne.

I'm hoping Ron DeSantis will run in 2024.:yowsa:
All we know about DeSantis is he's a Trump wannabe who operates well when surrounded by the fortune of a solidly aligned legislature. We don't know if he is a warrior ----- or another career politician primed for swamp absorption.

'You don't want a criminal lawyer... you want a "criminal" lawyer,'
I would be saying that is good advice. No you wouldn't...you'd be laughing at them and ripping them a new one. You'd be calling them cowards and guilty for not answering questions.
Did Trump actually say that? Or are you simply projecting that on him in order to produce a false account of what he actually said just like Democrats do?Videos are available. Check them out.
But no worries @goatprairie ----- you got him now. 88devilTrump has slipped out of too many similar situations to say that. But there's always hope.
You are correct, he has been very fortunate to have a majority in both Houses, but he has also taken full advantage of that. He has made some pretty bold moves and decisions.
Since @goatprairie doesn't seem to have any answers for us, I would like to review the statement that Trump made at an Iowa campaign rally in 2016:I don't have any answers for you????!!! :facepalm2:“So there are five people taking the Fifth Amendment. Like you see on the mob, right? You see the mob takes the Fifth. If you’re innocent why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?”
To put this into context, the five people he was referring to were all Hillary Clinton staffers. They were not subjects of the investigation. They weren't being questioned for their own guilt, but were simply witnesses to what Hillary had done. So they legitimately had no reason to plead the fifth because Amendment V protects against self-incrimination only. So clearly, they were fearful of testifying against Hillary, just as a mob member would be afraid to testify against a mob leader.
That is the context of Trump's statement. So in the future, can we refrain from posting DU bullshit on this board?
Trump has slipped out of too many similar situations to say that. But there's always hope.
Thanks for the preview of the Biden regime's next taking point. Who says it isn't helpful to have someone on the inside? :laugh:As awful as Biden's presidency has been so far, he beats Trump in the polls. What does that tell you about Trump's chances?
As awful as Biden's presidency has been so far, he beats Trump in the polls. What does that tell you about Trump's chances?
He's got the base, but that's about it.
DeSantis is not tainted like Trump. Let's get behind a winner who won't shoot himself in the foot and turn off people needlessly.
???? .... and you believe in polls why??? Next, you'll be telling me that the election wasn't stolen. :shrug:Polls accurately predicted Trump in range for beating Clinton in 2016. They also accurately predicted him getting beat by Biden in 2020.
DeSantis has taken no risk beyond the safety net of his legisature. I'm not convinced this meets the definition of "bold" --- "bold" requires battle scars.
No you wouldn't...you'd be laughing at them and ripping them a new one. You'd be calling them cowards and guilty for not answering questions.
You probably applauded Trump six years ago when he said only guilty people took the fifth.
But now that Trump did it, IT'S DIFFERENT!!!!!!!!!
But it ain't different. It's Trump doing it. Now the goalposts have been moved for Trump.
Videos are available. Check them out.
Polls accurately predicted Trump in range for beating Clinton in 2016. They also accurately predicted him getting beat by Biden in 2020.
Pollsters who are regularly off in their predictions don't get hired. Their business relies on them being accurate.
I don't have any answers for you????!!! :facepalm2:
Six years ago Trump made a public statement available on video that people who took the fifth were most likely guilty or why would they take the fifth?
Now Trump takes the fifth, BUT IT'S DIFFERENT FOR TRUMP!!!!
Stop with the hypocrisy.
Polls are never set up to sway an agenda. *****rollingeyes*****
Hey, if you want to think Trump is somehow different from the other people who take the fifth, go right ahead. I'm not going to sit here and argue with you.
And here are those exact words:“So there are five people taking the Fifth Amendment. Like you see on the mob, right? You see the mob takes the Fifth. If you’re innocent why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?”
Nowhere in that does Trump say that the people taking the fifth (WHO WERE NOT TARGETS OF THE INVESTIGATION) were guilty. Nowhere. Did you even read what I said? I explained this to you clearly.
Trump is the target of an investigation. It isn't the first time Trump has taken the fifth either. But then for you to know that, you would have to do actual research. And that may prove more difficult than copying and pasting from left-wing websites.
Show me where I am being hypocritical, @goatprairie . And do it by something I have actually done, not by lies you invent about what I did six years ago.
Hey, if you want to think Trump is somehow different from the other people who take the fifth
I'm not going to sit here and argue with you.
He said what he said.
I don't.I give up. Believe what you want to believe. ***suicide***
It's not a matter of arguing with me. It's a matter of you showing me any time that I said something different for anyone else. And the bottom line here is you can't. So the correct course of action for you would be to admit your mistake and move on. But I am betting that you lack the integrity to do so.
And I posted it for you, verbatim. Yet you continue to cling tightly to a false narrative of what he said. Why is that?
Now just be honest...what if this were HRC, Biden, Obama, or any of number of Dem pols who said what Trump said six years ago and then took the fifth when put on the stand?
You be laughing hysterically and ripping them a new one, wouldn't you?
But since it's Trump you give him a pass.
Why?
Polls accurately predicted Trump in range for beating Clinton in 2016. They also accurately predicted him getting beat by Biden in 2020.
Pollsters who are regularly off in their predictions don't get hired. Their business relies on them being accurate.
Reason:
"The invocation marked a notable break from Trump's previous thoughts on taking the Fifth, most notably during the 2016 campaign: During a presidential debate against Hillary Clinton, he called it "disgraceful" that members of her staff had refused to testify before congressional committees investigating Clinton's use of a private email server. Days later, he told a rally crowd, "The mob takes the Fifth. If you're innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?"
I give up. Believe what you want to believe. ***suicide***
DeSantis has taken no risk beyond the safety net of his legisature. I'm not convinced this meets the definition of "bold" --- "bold" requires battle scars.
As awful as Biden's presidency has been so far, he beats Trump in the polls.
From Reason magazine:
"Donald Trump Pleads the 5th After Years of Saying Only Guilty People Do That
The former president may be a hypocrite, but at least he knows his own rights."
@goatprairieI am pretty sure he also listens to "Coast to Coast".
Reason Magazine?
Oh,well! That's different! That settles it for me.
Can you tell me what RINO you are voting for so I can vote for that loser, too?
I am pretty sure he also listens to "Coast to Coast".
All we know about DeSantis is he's a Trump wannabe who operates well when surrounded by the fortune of a solidly aligned legislature. We don't know if he is a warrior ----- or another career politician primed for swamp absorption.Oddly my support for Trump doesn't require me to talk down DeSantis, I don't see him as a threat to Trump as you obviously do, why I have no idea because at no time has he even hinted he would challenge Trump.
Reason:Your using this where he was talking about Clintoon people who were not being investigated and not charged with anything but took the fifth refusing to answer questions about Hilary? Pretty poor example because he was talking about innocents not criminal refusing to testify(no doubt in fear of Arkancide). If you are using this as your defense I think you clearly do not understand the statement and it context or you are being obtuse for another reason of which I can conjecture but will not note my thinking.
@ver@sneakypete Coast to Coast AM is an American late-night radio talk show that deals with a variety of topics. Most frequently the topics relate to either the paranormal or conspiracy theories. It was hosted by creator Art Bell from its inception in 1988 until 2000, and is currently hosted by George Noory.
I am guessing that is a talk radio station? Is that the right description for that sort of thing?

True, but that is hardly HIS "fault",and framing it that way ALMOST seems like a cheap shot.

Who the hell said it was his fault @sneakypete ?? I said it was his good fortune to have the statehouse he has.
But this does not change the fact that a man's true convictons and backbone are revealed through battles of fire ---- and to date DeSantis is sitting on an inner tube in the deep end of the pool.
Granted he has a full majority

@libertybele @Right_in_VirginiaQuoteHe's taken on Disney, the teacher's union and the sugar companies.
That takes some political stones for a Florida pol.
Granted he has a full majority, but he isn't just sitting back and doing nothing. He is quick to move on issues and for the most part it has benefited FL.QuoteHe was one of the first to go up against CDC and WHO guidelines and opened up FL. Why do you think over 900 people a day have moved to FL?
I would beg to differ that the migration is due to people fleeing higher taxes; the migration is more about freedom. (You can still always tell who just came from out of state; they are masked, some with gloves and those masks are worn in the parks, kayaking, etc.)
Ennnn, not to sure about that one. The typical Yankee wouldn't know freedom if they tripped over it,and even then it would scare them to death. They want RULES,DAMMIT!QuoteAbout 900 people a day are moving to Florida, the state's CFO, Jimmy Patronis, told Fox Business on Monday, attributing it mainly to higher taxes in states such as New York and New Jersey.
If Florida had any sense, and IF it were legal, they should put up barricades on the highways at the state line and refuse admittance to anyone that came from north of Virginia.
Florida was known as "The southernmost Yankee state in the nation" 20+ years ago,and this ain't making it any better.
And speaking as someone who grew up in the south starting 70 years or so ago,I can tell you with an absolute certainty the typical yankee is mostly harmless the first 60 or 90 days, but after that they get fire in their eyes and want laws passed to make it "just like it was back home!"
I have witnesses this everywhere I have lived in the south.QuoteFlorida also has no personal income tax. In comparison, New York unveiled proposals in April to bump up its income-tax rates for its wealthiest residents.[/i]
Florida should IMMEDIATELY pass a law making income tax for yankee refugees twice what they were paying "back home".QuotePatronis told Fox that states like New York and New Jersey were "financial train wrecks."
EXACTLY! And the REASON they are train wrecks is because the same SOB's that are moving south now VOTED for train wrecks, more powerful unions, more welfare, strict gun control, more powerful unions with "no show" jobs, etc, etc, etc.
Why the HELL would anyone want to see these viscous parasites moving next door to them?

I am pretty sure he also listens to "Coast to Coast".What? You're telling me you don't believe chupacabras are real?
Ha,ha....it's hilarious to see you people twist yourselves into pretzels rationalizing Trump taking the fifth. But go ahead...don't let me stop you.
At least we have integrity.Oh, sure thing. You're backing an incorrigible liar who can't stop lying and deceiving.
Oh, sure thing. You're backing an incorrigible liar who can't stop lying and deceiving.
Make sure you send Donny more money for his new jet airplane. A quarter of a billion wasn't enough I guess.
Admit it, you personally know nothing about Donald Trump the man, only what you’ve been feed by the willing accomplices in the media—and they all read off the same script provided by the DNC. He’s nothing like you described. Trying reading accounts of Donald Trump from the people who were personally acquainted with the man for years; you’ll get a truer picture of him.
On second thought, don’t. You’ll be happier in your cocoon of ignorance. After all, you don’t want to accidentally fry your cognitive dissonance meter.

Ha,ha....it's hilarious to see you people twist yourselves into pretzels rationalizing Trump taking the fifth. But go ahead...don't let me stop you.
What pretzels? Trump originally made the same stupid statement that most people make about the fifth, and he has now publicly corrected himself and said he now sees why it’s an important right.
Of course it’s an important right and he has every right to plead the fifth
But it is fair to point out his hypocrisy that it only became valuable when he needed it
Now just be honest...what if this were HRC, Biden, Obama, or any of number of Dem pols who said what Trump said six years ago and then took the fifth when put on the stand?
You be laughing hysterically and ripping them a new one, wouldn't you?
But since it's Trump you give him a pass.
Why?
Seriously -- this is the least of our worries in this country -- Trump pleading the fifth of which he had every right to do.
In an environment where for seven years he’s been ceaselessly attacked with false assertions and characterizations from both the right and the left; and now being hounded by a powerful, corrupted law enforcement agency with bogus criminal charges — damn straight plead the fifth, no matter what anyone might think.
What pretzels? Trump originally made the same stupid statement that most people make about the fifth, and he has now publicly corrected himself and said he now sees why it’s an important right.

Trying reading accounts of Donald Trump from the people who were personally acquainted with the man for years; you’ll get a truer picture of him.You mean Donald Trump the man who has been lying about losing for close to two years now? The man who instigated a riot at our nation's capital resulting in over 100 cops injured and five people dead in the aftermath? The man who sat on his can for three hours watching a riot while his flunkies begged him to address the rioters and try to stop the riot?
On second thought, don’t. You’ll be happier in your cocoon of ignorance. After all, you don’t want to accidentally fry your cognitive dissonance meter.
Donald Trump does have the right plead the fifthThank you for the acknowledgement...that's all I'm looking for.
But his past statements about those that plead the fifth amendment have come back to haunt him. There’s no spinning that away
@goatprairie
@goatprairie do you know for a fact that he is lying??? If so, what proof do you have?? Do you know him personally or know of someone who is close to him?I voted for Trump twice. He had more good policies than bad ones. If he had acknowledged that he lost in 2020 and promised to clean up his act and do better, I would have considered voting for him if he had gotten the nomination again in 2024.
One things is for sure President Trump had this country headed in a more positive direction. Perhaps you like Joe's policies; inflation, energy dependence, empty shelves, weaponized IRS agents, CRISIS AT THE BORDER, and the recent Inflation Reduction Act???
What pretzels? Trump originally made the same stupid statement that most people make about the fifth, and he has now publicly corrected himself and said he now sees why it’s an important right.Oh, I'm sure you would have excused Obama, HRC, or Biden if they had said the same thing, right? :silly:
No, that's not what happened. In 2016, Trump made a comment about witnesses who plead the Fifth - not about people being investigated who plead the Fifth. Huge difference. Besides, Trump pled the fifth in one of his divorce proceedings. So this isn't some new thing he did.Yeah, that's me the person who voted for Trump twice....I confess....I'm just and out and out leftist. 8888crybaby
I would highly recommend to everyone to go back and see what Trump actually said and the context of his words before buying some false left-wing narrative posted here by @goatprairie .

The man who conspired to send fake electors to the certification?
The man who bilked his followers out of quarter of a billion dollars to supposedly fight the election result but instead spend much of it on cronies and other things?
That Trump?
I voted for Trump twice.
Thank you for the acknowledgement...that's all I'm looking for.
Well, you are right. And even after you provided his past statement re: the 5th
