She Wanted to Be a Republican President. She’s Voting for Biden.
Edward-Isaac Dovere 20 mins ago
Republicans who say Donald Trump should lose in November but insist they won’t vote for Joe Biden aren’t being honest, Carly Fiorina argues.
Fiorina was a Republican candidate for president just four years ago, and was briefly Ted Cruz’s prospective running mate. Trump needs to go, she says — and that means she’s voting for Biden.
Fiorina is not going to keep quiet, write in another candidate, or vote third-party. “I’ve been very clear that I can’t support Donald Trump,†she told me, in an interview that can be heard in full on the latest episode of The Ticket. “And elections are binary choices.†She struggled with the decision, and whether to go public. But she said that this struggle is one Republicans need to have — including those who have rationalized supporting Trump despite their disagreements, because of some of his policies or judicial appointments.

Her GOP is dead, good riddance.
-
Trump is the flashlight that exposed all of these cockroaches.
-
...and don't come back.
-
Her GOP is dead, good riddance.
The new GOP is a mish mash of Conspiracy theorist Q anon and people so far up Donald's liberal rear they will never find their way out. And you can say good riddance but I am fairly sure Carly embraced the Trump at first. And she is a face in the Evangelical Church. Expect to start seeing an exodus.
Oh, and Donald's party is the new Socialist party too. McSally and her vacations on the state. Evanka and her family pay...… Donald with his new round of stimulus...…….
Not law and order but chaos Trump.
Trump rallies are at least 70% Democrats and people who never cared to vote. And you criticize Carly for voting for Biden? I won't, but I am not voting for Donald Duck.

Carly is the face of the evangelical church. Hilarious.
I'll be waiting for that exodus with trepidation.
-
She's a soulless corporate hack.
-
Trump was correct about her. Who can trust that face?
-
She is just another bush, wanted the badge and the place in the history books but not do the work...
-
She's a soulless corporate hack.
She's a soulless destroyer of corporations.
-
She's a soulless destroyer of corporations.
Exactly. She not even a good soulless corporate hack.
-
She's a soulless destroyer of corporations.
Specifically, she dismembered Hewlett-Packard. For those not familiar with Silicon Valley geography, the location of Apple's famous "spaceship" headquarters campus used to be multiple HP buildings. Building built in the 60s and 70s - as those were - are not very efficient or suitable for modern computer networking, but HP didn't rebuild. Apple bought, demolished, and rebuilt.
As for Fiorina's politics, she's a RINO slightly less obnoxious than Ahhhnold-the-RINO. In 2016 she was on my, "Oh dear Lord, please NO!!!" list. Trump wasn't at the top of my list, but he wasn't on my "Please no!" list.

Let us not forget Lucent Technologies....

What the heck was Ted thinking when he selected her to be his VP??? Or -- is she just bitter because Trump pointed to her face?
-

It's the latter.
-
Ah. The former HP genius manager.
She is intelligent and stupid. I wonder
which country she would move to.
Carly is deficient in common sense.
-
Just another Romney-like RINO..... showing their "true colors".... finally.
-
"The new GOP is a mish mash of Conspiracy theorist Q anon and people so far up Donald's liberal rear they will never find their way out."
*Someone has their nose so far up Deep State's butt they will never find their way out.
"And she is a face in the Evangelical Church. Expect to start seeing an exodus."
*Carly the face of the Evangelical church? ROFLOL
"Oh, and Donald's party is the new Socialist party too. McSally and her vacations on the state. Evanka and her family pay...… Donald with his new round of stimulus...……."
* So now the Republican Party is Socialist? No. The old GOPe IS Socialist/Globalist. They'd be the R's who want the NWO and the destruction of our precious USA.
So, McSally's nonsense is now Trumps fault???
"Not law and order but chaos Trump."
* How do you come up with this stuff!
"Trump rallies are at least 70% Democrats and people who never cared to vote."
* More nonsense.
"I won't, but I am not voting for Donald Duck."
*More of your disrespect. Your hatred of Trump is so off base, this has to be personal. There has to be something that you are afraid of. What is it?
-
I remember how disappointed I was when Ted picked her (but I had almost forgot to be honest). If nothing else, this thread reminds me of how flawed even Ted was. I need reminding ever so often (just as the Lord reminds me of my many flaws).
Anyone that picks Biden over just not voting for Trump was either hurt greatly (and holds a grudge) or not a conservative over their political game. There is no justifying voting for the godless party. None. IMHO.
-
What the heck was Ted thinking when he selected her to be his VP??? Or -- is she just bitter because Trump pointed to her face?
This is one of the reasons I don't trust Cruz. Most of us saw through her facade before he chose her. She came off of her yacht to attack POTUS just like the other #DeepStaters. When will people realize that the #DeepState is composed of both sides?
-
This is one of the reasons I don't trust Cruz.
Don't trust Cruz? What's next? Are you going to start flinging that "Lyin' Ted" meme around while you are at it? Why not call it like it really is.... He had an instance of a "poor judgement", instead of your bogus "trust" issue.
Then contrast that against the present POTUS.... And let me know if you think DJT hasn't made any poor choices, or lapses in judgement.

So Fiorina is now an enemy of the state because she has announced she will be voting for Biden. Frankly, I wish these pols and others would not announce their voting preferences and just do it. I really don't care who they vote for; they don't influence my decision one way or the other.
But she does have the right to vote for whoever she pleases. I don't know why so many Trump supporters are in such an uproar about her decision. I was told by a Trump supporter in 2016 that he didn't need my vote to win. Well then I guess Trump doesn't need Fiorina's vote or mine this time either.
No! She is an enemy of the state because she is a statist busybody wannabe!

Who's in an 'uproar'? Self important prima donnas who feel like we all want to know how they intend to vote just rub me the wrong way.

Or some who take Freepish type of swipes at Cruz, for what at the time was a decison made at political expedience and necessity.
All I can say, it is a good thing someone like Sam Nunn, or Scoop Jackson isn't running against Trump, I'd be making my first and only democratic vote. Trump is a disaster we are stuck with.
-
No! She is an enemy of the state because she is a statist busybody wannabe!
Yeah....., but Trump's demonization of anyone who says ANYTHING negative about him has gotten beyond tiresome.
The man is a living breathing 2 y.o. Temper Tantrum.

Well, it could be that voting for biden is voting for socialism, Antifa and everything to destroy the country and she runs her mouth to encourage her "followers" to vote with her so it is not just carly's vote.
We are engaged in a battle for the survival of the republic, that is why I support Trump, not that I think he is perfect..

Anyone voting for Biden and/or the Democrats is an enemy of America, IMHO. Because at this point in our orchestrated-by-the-left demise.... that's exactly what it (voting Democrats into power) will equate to....
the end of and destruction of America AS FOUNDED.
We should thank these brainless fools for outting themselves and "self-identifying".

Yeah....., but Trump's demonization of anyone who says ANYTHING negative about him has gotten beyond tiresome.

Yeah? Well you try being under 24/7 scrutiny, falsely accused, endless investigations, verbal assaults & attacks, impeachment proceedings and having your family and even your youngest son bashed and attacked, etc. for going on five years now .....
and see how "maturely" you handle it.
-

It is curious how anyone to the right Don Lemon of could look at what the left is bringing down on us today and still consider voting for Biden.

See Ronald Reagan 1976-1988. Then contrast the two.

Oh puhleeeze. Stop trying to re-write history.

I may not always agree with what Trump does or says. But I can think of no better example of cutting off one's nose to spite their face than to join the left & NTers in jumping on his back at every opportunity. I'll be damned if I'll do it.
-
We are engaged in a battle for the survival of the republic, that is why I support Trump, not that I think he is perfect..
No argument there, and that's why I am voting for Trump too. OTOH, his bombastic style may have served him okay and was acceptable 2016-2019. In 2020, with multiple crisis'. We need some grownup leadership, and not frivilous non-productive insults thrown any anyone not kissing his ring.
Did you listen to his 45 minute rambling about West Point in Tulsa last Saturday? Totally pointless, and most of the rest of the speech was a unfocused mess. Trump needs to step up to the plate right now, and show some leadership.
-

It's not a nose/face cutting exercise when your horse in the race is failing miserably. It's called constructive feedback and criticism. Something Trump is apparently not receptive to.
-

I'm curious. Please name someone who you think, realistically, could or would be doing a better job right now. And by realistically, I mean taking into consideration all of the 'other' pressures and strains that Trump is under and has been under for the past almost four years of his first term.
-
Oh puhleeeze. Stop trying to re-write history.
So you are claiming that the press and media was not relentless in their attacks on Reagan during that timeframe? Wow, we must have lived in different realities.
-
Trump is the flashlight that exposed all of these cockroaches.
@dfwgator
YUP! Good riddance to treasonous trash.

@Chosen Daughter
I am so tired of hearing your lies and slander that I would slap the piss out of you and face the arrest if you were to ever get within range.
Why don't you just take yourself back to the Huffington Post, where you belong?
-

There is no need for me to respond. You've made my point for me.
-
So you are claiming that the press and media was not relentless in their attacks on Reagan during that timeframe? Wow, we must have lived in different realities.
The left has given 'new meaning' to relentless attacks against Trump. So yeah, it's a lot more focused, comprehensive (all of media plus the alphabet agencies) and organized... and quite literally... from the top (Obama/Soros) now vs. back then. Also, I don't recall Reagan being impeached. Could you link me to that?
-

I don't twitter, or bookface and I don't watch his rallies... He drives me crazy... lol Maybe that is why his shortcomings don't bother me...
But that is true of most of what the media spreads... I will review stuff on youtube and skip over the BS and get to the beef....
-
It's not a nose/face cutting exercise when your horse in the race is failing miserably. It's called constructive feedback and criticism. Something Trump is apparently not receptive to.
And again.... who 'else' could have withstood the pressures and the endless attacks? Got somebody in mind?
-
I'm curious. Please name someone who you think, realistically, could or would be doing a better job right now.
That ship has passed and is irrelevant. Our choice has already been made. It is now up to him to up his game.

Again, your memory must be bad.
You don't think Iran-Contra was not an attempt at impeachment? And the all day hearings broadcast on all three major networks? Hmmmmm.... Try again.
And btw...XL....I do enjoy your posts here. I think we are just off on this matter on semantics. I just expect more.

Don't deflect with hypotheticals. Trump is the nominee. Unless you know something I don't. :pondering:

Reagan was allowed a first term.

ROFL! Pres. Trump: "Will you just look at that face?"
That's what you get when you publicly mention anything about a woman's appearance/face.

My memory is indeed "bad"...or flawed (I've slept since then)...lol.
Iran-Contra was just the ssdd commies (the enemy within) lashing out at Reagan for hampering their agenda. My point is.... all of this ""resistance"" against anyone upholding our Constitution, our laws and our nation "as founded" has gotten... pardon the pun... progressively worse than it ever was in the past. Crap like someone holding up a fake severed head of Reagan, dripping with blood, would never have been tolerated back then. Half of the stuff that has been launched at Trump, including the attacks on Barron and the rest of Trump's family, would have never been tolerated back then. It's worse now. That's all I'm saying.
Hey, I enjoy your posts here too, else I wouldn't bother. We can agree to disagree on some issues but we're still on the same page, basically. happy77

I'm sure glad @Chosen Daughter has a thick skin because I, for one, would miss her if she left. I wish you fellas would Lighten up.

Just another Romney-like RINO..... showing their "true colors".... finally.
This is what Trump supported over 3 Republicans when he supported Jeff Vandrew:
"I'm strongly and unequivocally pro-choice: I support Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose. Any efforts to weaken or undermine that right will face my fierce opposition. Proudly, I have consistently voted in the New Jersey State Legislature to support critical women's healthcare funding that provides preventive health services, cancer screenings, and prenatal care for low-income women." Trump is a fraud that is ruining this country. He doesn't really have any solid position. Any dog that comes licking his feet are welcome.
So don't act so infuriated that someone would vote for Biden. He probably is less liberal than Vandrew.
-
I'm sure glad @Chosen Daughter has a thick skin because I, for one, would miss her if she left. I wish you fellas would Lighten up.
I like her too. And I like varied opinions across the spectra of the right. That's what make TBR a notch above TOS. NO orange echo chamber here.

Did you listen to his 45 minute rambling about West Point in Tulsa last Saturday? Totally pointless, and most of the rest of the speech was a unfocused mess.
I think the one who's unfocused here is you. The President wasn't rambling ... nor was this part of the speech a diversion or pointless. In those five minutes the President not only set the record straight ... he defused a bomb locked onto his campaign's questions about Biden's mental acuity.
That he did this through humor is one of the reasons Donald Trump will be studied in political science courses for a generation ... and politicians will be rehearsing his style with hairbrush in hand in front of full length mirror for years to come.
You miss some of the very best of the President ... and one of the secrets to his bond with his supporters ... when knee jerk reactions overtake you.

I considered Fiorina an enemy of the state when she ran HP and Lucent into the ground. A lot of good people were harmed by her incompetence. That she would try to run for President with that record was pure comedy gold. That she would go all out to take Trump down is the least surprising news of the week.

I think she functioned as the sacrifical party moderate, and her alliance with Cruz, was not his best moment. Good riddance.

The difference being @LegalAmerican is more often correct.

She has a seriously overinflated self-perception of having influence on how others vote. She announced she's voting for Biteme? She's still pissed about Trump's comments about her face over four years ago.
-

LA doesn't hijack threads. We certainly never had to ban her for it.

Respecfully disagree. Have you been called a leftist here by CD? Just wondering.

Maybe not hijack, but her spam was unbearable and annoying. Plus calling people leftist who like myself are on the extreme right side of the political spectra? Troll was too nice a description of her.

No.

Yeah, I didn't like that either. The MAGA Pill stuff is hysterical for a while, but the pill ears off quickly.
Spamming is frowned upon, but hijacking threads is arguably worse, from a Mod's POV. I've had to write bans for both kinds, BTW.
-
You are by far ... the least objective person on this board.
Your rebuttal is rather specious @catfish1957
Objectivity. or the lack thereof, had nothing to do with my post to you. I was attempting to explain what the President was doing during those five minutes at the rally. POTUS had a strategy and he was executing it flawlessly. Time will tell if it worked.
It mystifies me that you still do not understand how the man operates, especially his use of humor --- but apparently you do not.

No...repsectfully, I have given comments here where POTUS has hit a Home Run, and I mean Reagansque type speeches and rallies. And I have no problem saying he failed either....... IMO...this one fell short, when he needed it most.
And btw, it wasn't 5 minutes. Try about 15. (22:50- 37:03). Though it seemed like 30.

She is a very enthusiastic Trump supporter. And because I see Trump (warts and all) as a sort of firewall for the Republic, I'm more inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt.

Anyone that picks Biden over just not voting for Trump was either hurt greatly (and holds a grudge) or not a conservative over their political game. There is no justifying voting for the godless party. None. IMHO.
I keep a forum buddy list, but that clear thinking observation put you squarely on my Best Buddy List
I believe whether you pray or not even a secular society needs a strong religious underpinning as the basis for its constitution. America has that freedom to worship or not, and protecting that freedom is important. Today’s democrats—the Left’s political vehicle—would strip that out of the constitution and BoRs.

No...repsectfully, I have given comments here where POTUS has hit a Home Run, and I mean Reagansque type speeches and rallies. And I have no problem saying he failed either....... IMO...this one fell short, when he needed it most.
Oy vavoy. This makes me so very happy I have other things to do. :seeya:

Yeah? Well you try being under 24/7 scrutiny, falsely accused, endless investigations, verbal assaults & attacks, impeachment proceedings and having your family and even your youngest son bashed and attacked, etc. for going on five years now .....
and see how "maturely" you handle it.

It’s easy to criticize, isn’t it?

Reagan was allowed a first term.
Bingo! Reagan even got a honeymoon period that lasted much longer that Trump’s two seconds after the oath on Inauguration Day. Imagine that!

That's fair, really, but a flawed comparison. Dems were far less activist back then...
A better comparison is found in Dubya, who similarly, got very little 'honeymoon'.

No one here would argue against that. W was certainly in the same ballpark as Trump. But by comparison W was in the bleachers while Trump is on the field with nothing but wild pitches thrown directly at his head, the moment after the ump shouted “play ball.â€

Well, outside of John Hinckley Jr.

I don't think that's right at all - Bush's administration was plagued right from the beginning - accused of a fraudulent election... Counting chads right from the get-go, from the very minute he was elected... and it never let up. Everything thrown at Tumpy was thrown at Dubya, same for same.
I just think memories are not as visceral as the present in most things, this notwithstanding. It could be fair to say they may have jacked it up a notch, I suppose, following some gradient from Reagan to here... Or even Nixon to here... But pretty much SOSDD.

Certainly not mine...

Anti-Trump Republicans can't save the GOP by voting for Biden
by Kimberly Ross | June 26, 2020 12:18 PM
In 2016, Carly Fiorina faced off against Donald Trump as one of the Republican presidential candidates looking to take back the White House. As the only female in a crowded field, she stood out not only for her gender but for her ability to maintain her own against an unprecedented political foe. Anyone who followed the 2016 election cycle will remember that Trump mocked Fiorina's appearance. When the next debate came he apologized on camera to an unenthused Carly Fiorina. In the end, Fiorina voted for Donald Trump, despite any personal issues she may have had with him.
But times have changed.
During an interview this week with the Atlantic, Fiorina expressed her willingness to vote for Joe Biden in November. She described the Election Day decision as a "binary choice," one in which she cannot and will not support the Republican on the ballot. As a disgruntled former candidate who has been publicly shamed by Trump, Fiorina's choice seems to make sense at first glance. But as a pro-life Republican, it does not.
In the interview, when asked about Biden's stance as an abortion supporter and how it conflicted with her views, Fiorina stated, "We’re not making progress. And so let’s focus on making progress where people agree and actually solving a problem of abortion after five months." When reminded that Biden has supported more access to abortion she replied, "I think this is a great example of an opportunity to lead rather than just playing politics. He could do that. He could lead. He could problem-solve. He could find common ground on a bipartisan basis."

... And she is a face in the Evangelical Church. ...
@Chosen Daughter, ?? I've been in Silicon Valley Evangelical circles since the Carter Administration. I never heard Carly Fiorina's name mentioned during the time when she was leading HP and living in Los Altos Hills. Looking into it some, I see she was raised Episcopalian, which, sadly, is in no sense Evangelical. She herself has said that she is not a regular church goer. So I'm not sure where you get that Carly Fiorina "is a face in the Evangelical Church".
-
So Fiorina is now an enemy of the state because she has announced she will be voting for Biden. ...
But she does have the right to vote for whoever she pleases. ...
@Applewood,
Someone said Fiorina "is now an enemy of the state because she has announced she will be voting for Biden"? Who?
Someone questioned Fiorina's "right to vote for whoever she pleases"? Who?

Your Betters For Biden
Kurt Schlichter
Posted: Jun 26, 2020 8:48 AMWe’re going to see a nearly endless line of nominally Republican Establishment hacks you had long forgotten about announcing that they are voting for Grandpa Badfinger this fall, and the idea is that this will freak out us squares and make us all rethink our support for Donald Trump. What it should do is make us all rethink how we ever got to the point where we once supported the gooey likes of Carly Fiorina and the rest of the dilettantes and cruise ship cons in the first place.
No, we don’t play that anymore. We got woke, the kind of woke you get putting your hand on a hot stove – that image kind of sums up how we actual conservatives feel after decades of supporting losers whose astonishing record of failure is equaled in magnitude by their astonishing self-regard. The best and brightest are neither.
Once upon a time, when I believed in the fairy tale that is Conservative, Inc., I supported Carly Fiorina. She was running in California and was not a Democrat, and I would have supported a talking chancre sore over a California Democrat. ...
But people like Fiorina, Joe Biden’s newest, bestest buddy, never cared about conservatism or us conservatives. Her loyalty was ever to her class, not to us. If you wanted to get her attention, you would tell her she was risking dirty looks at the country club and she’d bend to the Establishment’s will like Gumby in a vise. But when millions of Americans cried out at their ruination via outsourcing, well, remember that as a corporate bigwig she gave Bain Boy a run for his money in sending our jobs overseas to our enemies, and got even richer doing it.
Now, these are the people we are supposed to see glom onto Biden and think, “Gee, if these serious, accomplished individuals are siding with that gibbering old pervert, perhaps I should likewise pledge my allegiance to that basement-lurking dementite.†...

1. Re "outsourcing", that began in the world of tech in the 1970s, if not the 1960s (I'm speaking from what I saw on ICs in the late 1970s, not not pulling factoids out of my rectum). I don't know whether Schlichter is less than well informed or being disingenuous, but if HP (and Dell, and Apple, and etc.) didn't outsource their manufacturing in the 80s and 90s, those companies would have an adjective in common, bankrupt. If Schlichter knows what these companies should have done instead that kept them in business, well, Schlicter could be an instant billionaire by marketing that strategy!
2. More to the point of this thread, before her failed 2016 Presidential run, Fiorina ran for the Senate against Babs Bouncer. CA's R Party has two wings, conservative and Mo-o-o-o-o-o-o-oderate. When a Mo-o-o-o-o-o-o-oderate candidate gets the nomination for an office, they spend a significant part of their campaign talking about how they aren't one of those conservative neanderthals. When a conservative gets the nomination for an office, the Mo-o-o-o-o-o-o-oderates pick up their $$ and go pout in a corner. To Fiorina, I'm a neanderthal of the worst sort, a Pro-Life conservative. So Schlichter is correct, +/-10%, about how Fiorina views conservatives - Fungus Amongus.

Nope. I advocate for two things here: intellectual honesty (you frequently, though not always, fail miserably). And when someone is a rude asshat, I give it right back. Think back...pretty much every time you and I have gone round and round, is after you act like a jackass to someone here.
For some reason you think your sh!t doesn’t stink, you’d be wrong.

GAK. Key Lime is only considered pie for the purpose of continuity... in the same 'called pie' category as Lemon Meringue. S'alright though.... you have at it. More real pie for me.

Awwww. Pete. Outside her hatred of Trump her views seem of sound and solid of conservative value.

I agree with you about everything except the trust part. I think he earned the trust (as much as any politician can) during the filibuster, calling turtle a liar to his face and in the way he handled Trumps attacks during the campaign. (Before you orange kool-aid drinkers get your knickers in a twist, I wasn’t wound up about trumps attacks because: politics)
I was/am a big Cruz supporter...I wish we had 50 more like him. But there is something about his style that just doesn’t...play well. Oddly, I think the beard he’s been sporting for a while helps.
Also, re your veiled comments about CD and intellectual honesty. I agree and have called her out for it. But if you have blinders on about a few on the other side of the debate (LA and a few other of the faithful trump brigade), you should take them off. Plenty of fodder to go around.

@XenaLee
I honestly think he may be one of the smartest candidates to ever run for the Presidency, but there is something I can't quite put my finger on that is a little "off" about him,and I just can't trust him.
@sneakypete
I actually met him at a campaign event in his first senatorial primary. Genuinely a really nice guy, and a rock solid conservative. A lot of his negative press is generated by his early actions of going all in with the 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington". principles, and not playing nice with Turtle and his agenda. Then add the nastiness of the 2016 primaries, and you have man that IMO has been demonized way more than he deserved. In his defense now... Cruz has supported the POTUS agenda as much, if not more than any other Senator.
In retrospect, If there truly is a knock on Cruz, it was his naivity of thinking he could change the world in one term, and that his own party would't sell out at a dimes drop.

I have no doubt about him giving the appearance of being a really nice guy,and I have no doubt he would charm the hell out of me in person if I ever met him and that if he weren't a politician I would be happy to call him "friend".
Truth to tell, same thing about Boy Jorge. I think,at heart, that he is a genuinely nice guy that means no harm to anyone. Unfortunately he is a mama's boy,and his mama was "Henrietta the Hun",and a bleeping globalist from the tips of her hoofs to the top of the horns on her head. Truly a nasty, evil bitch.
Yet........,there is still something about him, maybe in his eyes or his smile, that throws me off and tells me to back off.
and a rock solid conservative.
Until it is politically expedient to be something else. Yeah,ALL politicians MUST "play that game" to a certain extent, but it SEEMS to ME that he takes less nudging than others. Maybe it is because of the district he represents and the voters there, and maybe it is because that is just the way he is. Either way it just sets off warning bells.
Remember how everybody used to promote the Bush Crime Family as "Texans and conservatives"?
A lot of his negative press is generated by his early actions of going all in with the 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington". principles, and not playing nice with Turtle and his agenda.
Bleep Turtle and the horse he rode in on.
In his defense now... Cruz has supported the POTUS agenda as much, if not more than any other Senator.
That he has. No question about it,and I was more than a little surprised.

Are we back in sight of the rails?
Speaking of rails, I think I prefer "China Rails" in the "Empire Builder" series, though "India Rails" is good too. I've been playing "Australia Rails" a lot recently. Too bad the whole series is discontinued.

I'm a fan of the rails. @Fishrrman and @ironhorsedriver could relate.

Thanks @aligncare .... I rightfully get my knocks and bangs cause I guess I am about as opinionated as the next fellow. We all do. CD and I agree on some stuff and other times not even close (and I got the "you suck" PMs to prove it). You gonna tick someone off, just part of the process. But for the most part, the forum accepts each other except the fringe elements. The solid Never Trumpers and the Always Trumpers grind on each other, but I think at our ages, not many of us worried about one of us blowing a fuse and hunting down someone. Ole Pete, might make one last stab at us, lol, never know, we are a spirited bunch for geezers.

"Lunar Rails" is kind of "out there", a bit abstract. I haven't seen it, but I suspect "Martian Rails" is even more so. They're kind of like "Empire Builder" meets "Settlers of Catan" in outer space.
I wish we'd thought to get a copy of "Russian Rails" before it became unavailable.

Dr. @aligncare is definitely one of the good ones. Intelligent and well spoken. I hope I am on his buddy list....

You are right I was thinking of Michelle Backman.

Yeah, I defended Sessions for the most part. Was pretty ticked he threw his support towards Trump, but that job beckoned. Jeff is an honorable politician and over the years he has proven himself that way to me (example when he actually defended Ted Cruz from Gang of 8 smears when he didn't have to especially since he was committed to Trump).

My two cents -- I agree, Cruz is one of the smartest candidates to ever run and IMHO one of the most honest; and the response people have had about him is that he means what he says and does what he says ... both qualities are very unusual in the political circuit and I think that makes people skeptical about him. He's almost too good to be true -- his education was unmatched by any other candidate along with his supreme court case experience as well as his honesty and integrity and he's brilliant. Again, all qualities difficult to find; especially in a "politician" and I think that makes people second guess him.
-

I think that is why he took the job. He believed in Trumps immigration policy. And he was doing a great job until he recused himself. And Lindsey Graham advised him to. Well, I have asked over and over again why the president didn't dump liberal Lindsey over his public comments on Sessions needing to recuse himself. People just don't want to face the facts. Session is good. I hope he wins over Trumps guy. That guy has no known positions except football positions.

Yeah, yeah... 'feeling faint'... corset too tight and she ain't getting enough air... emotionally distraught.. Overcome. riiiiight...
Retiring to another room with the vapours is a polite way for a woman to say she's gonna go in the other room, loosen her corset, and let loose like a western mule-skinner. She's gonna go in there, haul off, and fart like the barber's cat. She's gonna let loose the thunder, and with all them crinolines and their static there may be lightning. A small herd of ladies go with her because it takes a herd of em to shake all the stank outta them petticoats. Can't have her returning to the cotillion draggin hell's own stench along behind her.
The two definitions are uniquely related and intertwined, as a tightly bound corset leaves no room for expansion with gas, so indeed, letting the corset loose and allowing the gas to pass can solve the issue of feeling faint.
But while the term originates in Greek 'eminations of the womb', and applies to a sort of female hysteria (we get the word from the Greek word for womb), but by the time of the Antebellum South, women used the excuse of 'female frailty' for a host of things.... foremost among them, the need to loosen the corset, and the need for eminations of another kind. Female mystery shrouded the communication: "C'mon Rebecca... Let's go out back... I gotta fart."

Hey, you'll get no beef from me... Even so, women still do a whole lot of nonsense for the sake of vanity. I get that appearances matter to women, I do. But the whole 9 yards they do every day has never made sense to me... Growing up around mountain gals, I guess. Hilljillies have all that stuff in their toy box, but it's for the rare occasion, not for every day... And I will tell you what, when you ain't used to a woman being gussied up, when she does go to the 9's, the difference is amazing.

Moved out here in fifth or sixth grade. My mamma is a Kansas farm gal, and the old man was Blue Collar and self employed, with enough sense to marry a farm gal.
Came out here early enough that not much of Chicago stuck to me... A bit handicapped to start with, but just in time, really. Of all the things I owe my old man, the biggest one is having the sense to drag me out here and set me free.

Especially true out in the Desert. My wife feels it because everyday we step outside, it's over 100F now. In a couple weeks I expect the 110 days to start up. Make-up is rarely worn here in the summer months, she found that out 20 years ago when we met.

@roamer_1 is right. Its nice on occasion. But I don't wear any foundation. Most days just mascara. Especially in a hot climate you need to just hydrate the skin and protect from the sun.

@catfish1957
I have what *I* consider better info than that. The woman who raised me was born in 1910,and she told me stories about how most of the local women in the 20's and 30's were ordering Laudlum by the case from the Sears catalogue. It was actually advertised as something to calm women and help them get through the day.
Which would drive today's wimmins libbers up the wall because they are not only ignorant of politics, but ignorant of everything else, too. THE most educated gathering of fools in the history of the world.
Anyhow, back on subject. When you stop and think about the daily life of women with children back then,it was nothing more of less than a life of brutal work that is never done, and almost totally lacking when it comes to appreciation because, let's face it,the husband's/father's life wasn't what you could call a bundle of joy, either. Work 6 days a week for 12 hours at mostly manual labor work, and your big moment of the day was to either come home for dinner and the hope of reading the paper (IF they could read) as a way of relaxing. Either that,or go to a bar,and most just didn't have the money to go to bars.
Being single was DEFINITELY where it was at back then.
BTW,this conversation came about after I came home one night from partying, and cleverly hid my bag of pot in the spoon jar on the table.
BTW,the "vapors" is what happens to a female dog when she goes into season. It was a polite way to say a woman was hot to trot .
Not that *I* personally would ever even THINK that a woman would ever want to have sex for any reason other than procreation, and even then it would be reluctantly, mind you!

That's right, but kinda incomplete. Morphine and cocaine derivatives are a product of the civil war... It was actually beginning before that, as one can almost literally trace distribution back to Chinese in California, and exploded in distribution with the railroad's completion.
It was a very serious problem with addicts of the day usually found to be Civil War vets and housewives... And eventually led to the formation of the FDA for 'truth in ingredients' purposes to fight the first national drug war...
Laudanum certainly has a place in it (though I think Laudanum was always a prescription medicine), but a whole lot of the addiction was through marketing of feel-good 'medicines' sold across the counter containing opiates and particularly cocaine - Hence Coca Cola's ignominious roots, which were everything but uncommon.

Before turning 7 I had lived in CA, Utah, CA again, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, and back again to California.
During my lifetime my county has grown from about 200 thousand to 3.2 million.
IIt is doubtful my wife would leave, since for 53 years of marriage we have been within a mile of the ocean, and I have never lived in a house with AC.
We fight and make up a couple of times a day. I showed her some other places. Aside from the CA coast, she picked St. George Utah and Sedona Arizona. Too hot, and you need AC--so what is the point? To her.
She is already a hot blooded Italian.

Send her up this way.... The Tetons in WY or ID, the ID panhandle, or Western MT... So long as you can take the Winter... If you are more urban, maybe Spokane Wa, Boise ID, or Missoula MT... Bozeman MT too, maybe..
For me, this right here is the jewel of the world... NW Montana (really Western MT) over through the Idaho panhandle. Of that, maybe the Flathead valley (Kalispell, where I live) and Coeur d'Alene Idaho are the best, though I would rather be up in the Yaak here or over in the Priest River country in ID... That's probably way too wild for y'all.
We are getting too big here... About 40k in Kalispell, and 70-90k in the whole valley (concentrated in Kalispell, Whitefish, Columbia Falls, Bigfork, and Polson), Though deep forest is little more than 10 miles away most anywhere hereabouts. Miles and miles of it.
I don't have air conditioning, nor have I ever, absent a window unit here and there... Even when it is HOT (end of July through August), maybe 2 weeks above low 90's and a day or two here and there, normally, when the sun goes down, so does the temperature. It's 40s and 50s at night... So if you shut the house up in the morning, and close all the curtains where the sun is going to be, and open her up at night, the house stays nice till late afternoon... with an ice cold lake or river never too far away. So worst case scenario, a couple weeks of evening fishing...
It's really about the winter, but if you live in town, and have a decent snow blower, it ain't all that.
If you are a rancher or a gentleman rancher, figure on a snow plow for the pickup and a good tractor with a loader and/or blower... Necessities.

I had a stepmother that troweled it on. She used to wear turtle neck sweaters and she troweled all the way down her neck. The sweaters were beige too. 888mouth
It ain't really the concrete. I have just found in my life that women that need to hide behind all that crap tend to have massive insecurities. YMMV

My mother drank so much Coca Cola.
So did I early on... Well Pepsi and Mountain Dew... Went through a cold pack a day for a while there... Kept a cooler full of ice in the truck. Till I found out that freezing milk jugs full of water was way more satisfying when working hard out on the land... Still have four jugs froze up in the freezer, just something I do... And somewhere around 30 or 35 I went back to my roots and started drinking sweet tea and lemonade. Been doing that all my life other than then. mo bedda

Here it is @truth_seeker the liberal section of Washington that controls our politics. Highly populated with leftists. Much of them migrating from shriek!!!!!!! California.

A State Divided: As Washington Becomes More Liberal, Republicans Push Back
New liberal laws and a new senate coalition illustrate the stark east-west divide in Washington state

I quit shaving when I retired. Gave up makeup years ago when I realized how time consuming it was to apply and I'd rather spend my time on other things. Pantyhose went by the boards when my last employer instituted a business casual dress code. Dresses too were gone in favor of pants. These days if I have, say, a wedding to attend, I don't have anything to dress up. So I don't go. Fine with me -- never liked the overblown weddings customary in my family and where I live anyway.
No high heels. Give me a flat heel. Or better yet, sneakers.
When I was a youngster, corsets were gone, but my domineering mother insisted I wear a girdle. Most uncomfortable dang thing on the planet. I finally said no to that too.
All this stuff women do to make themselves attractive, or so they think: I decided long ago to just be me. No extra frills. If a guy doesn't like me as i am, well, it's his loss.
I meant what I said - Now, I don't know about Mediterranean tribes... Most the gals up in the sticks around here are Scots Irish, Native, or Norwegian/Swedish or some other northern European derivative... But many hilljillies have never had a razor to em. Anywhere. Their fur is fine and delicate, soft, and doesn't bother me at all. In fact I find it sexy as hell. The first three gals I went with had hair.
I don't know, maybe a gal can get that soft fur back... I know it took years for my beard to turn soft after shaving for so long. Started out bristly and sparse and women objected... now it is soft, full and flowing... Maybe that same sort of reversion can happen for women too. But mostly, women who start off to shave have to continue.
But my point being, natural woman or natural man... Social sensibilities are mostly baloney. Learned nonsense that is a form of vanity.

I drink a TON of water. And a TON of sweet tea... sugar or honey, interchangeable with what I have. Still WAY less sugar than in your standard can of coke.
Also partial to strong coffee, chaga, dandelion coffee, and a wide variety of hot teas. It is SO nice to have chaga back... with your condition, you should be drinking chaga too.

The root cleaned and chopped to about 1/4" chunks... fairly uniform is important...
spread em out on a dry cookie sheet and roast em in the oven low (250-300 maybe) removing to worry em up now and then to keep it from sticking , till at least golden, though the darker they get the richer they get.. I like a light coffee bean brown color. Then run it through a coffee grinder to a powder.
Roughly a teaspoon to a cup. YMMV... Add what you'd like. I take it black with a hint of black-strap molasses, which I consider necessary for this deep tone that makes it more like coffee.
If you buy off the Azure truck, they have it in singles sticks or in a 1 lb pouch... That's where I get mine mostly. Dandy Blend, I think. Dandelion with chicory, beet, barley and rye.
Remember about the molasses... just a touch. Not too much

I dunno... If you are pretty well set, and own property within walking distance to the ocean, you could sell out , get lake front up here - Posh lake front - and live like a king. Family is a thing though, I get that...
But I sure as all hell would not be staying in liberal areas here on out. I'd be talking the whole family into a move. If things actually do go to hell in a handbasket, which they likely could do, megacities will eat themselves alive.

No. I said what I said. Originally supported Ted, but as his campaign went on, I started to have misgivings about his judgement. Handing out teddy bears and soccer balls on the border with Beck when he was supposedly against illegal immigration? That phony Oval Office set and skit on Beck's show? Then the crap he pulled trying to steal supporters? What he pulled on Ben Carson was horrendous. Dirty tricks with Colorado? Then he chooses Carly of all people! His last stunt when he begged Trump to speak at the NCov when he didn't give the speech that he had submitted to the committee, but turned on the nominee and told delegates to "vote their conscience" was the last straw. His entire run showed him to be sneaky, nasty and completely lacking in good judgement.
He has worked hard to restore his image. It was left in tatters after his stunts. Time will tell if it is sincere, or is he just pretending to once more be a Conservative so he can run in '24? Inquiring minds want to know.

Correction used to be.
I definitely still trust the man. At the rate things are going .... this Republic will soon be gone -- Ted and the rest of Congress will be out of jobs.

@sneakypete
I helped with the Cruz' campaign in my area -- he came to the area and met with those helping him -- I was sick with the flu and never got the chance to meet the man. Definitely a disappointment.
I have no doubt that he knew those in his own party hated him and did everything they could to ensure he didn't become President -- he was up against Jeb! -- and the Bushies aren't exactly fond of Ted --- they don't think much of DJT either --- I think that's a compliment to both men.
-
I definitely still trust the man. At the rate things are going .... this Republic will soon be gone -- Ted and the rest of Congress will be out of jobs.
@libertybele
EVERYBODY will be out of jobs except for the Commissars.
Not to worry, though. If you are young, strong, healthy, and maybe a tad sadistic, there will be plenty of jobs for people that want to wear a badge and swing a truncheon or man a belt-fed machine gun.
History proves this.

I considered Fiorina an enemy of the state when she ran HP and Lucent into the ground. A lot of good people were harmed by her incompetence. That she would try to run for President with that record was pure comedy gold. That she would go all out to take Trump down is the least surprising news of the week.
As did I. She is a pure #DeepState Globalist. She is ruthless. Sold out American workers without so much as a hint of compassion. She doesn't care about us; she just wants the ultimate power.
-
So Fiorina is now an enemy of the state because she has announced she will be voting for Biden.
No, Fiorina showed herself to be an enemy of the state long before she ran in the primary for '16.
-
It's not a nose/face cutting exercise when your horse in the race is failing miserably. It's called constructive feedback and criticism. Something Trump is apparently not receptive to.
Odd. Where were all of these leaders and their constructive feedback and criticism when Obama was in office? Now that Trump is President, the NTers all come out of the woodwork to attack him. I had to laugh when W came out. Not a peep out of these folks when Obama tore this Republic apart. Not one word.

She just struck me as a female activist with a "get even with the evil white guys" attitude. We just barely survived 8 years of another activist and did not want another.

I actually started paying attention to politics when Bush Sr. lost to Clinton -- that was like a slap in the face. Regan came along and I felt confident that the U.S. was strong and revered by the rest of the world. Most people actually had a sense of patriotism and pride in this country and respected the office of the Presidency and didn't think of apologizing for being an American....those were the days....

Bush Sr.'s losing wasn't so much a slap in the face, nor a surprise, but a wake-up call that weent ignored for another ten years+. Not only His New World Order remarks, but he was demonstrably out of touch with the ordinary American. His speeches seemed wooden. Lest we forget the entire Ruby Ridge incident happened under GWB, and the beginnings of the Waco/Branch Davidian siege/massacre were under his watch, too, culminating in an attack and siege on Feb 28 of Clinton's first year. That had to be in motion, paperwork, surveillance, etc., before Clinton was sworn in.
I had written seeking some sort of reply on a concept of a tariff that would establish a price floor for domestic crude oil, and come off as prices went up to that floor or above it. I had prepared a 10 page paper showing the devastating effects of the crash in oil prices, sent as well to my Senators and Congressman, showing the economic and social devastation of that crash. At the time I viewed it as (1) providing incentive to keep American drilling and completion operations going and thus improving our National Energy Security, as well as putting a multitude back to work. (2) providing revenue for paying on the national Debt, or for other purposes the Federal Government saw fit (Balancing the budget).
I got a very nice form letter reply which thanked me for my concern about Farm Policy. At least they read the zip code.
GHWB not only shot himself in the foot, the result of that election was the elevation of the Arkansas Clinton crime syndicate to global players, something we can rue to this day. But that's where I soured on the Bushes, and still am.

He didn't give a rabid rats ass for two reasons. One is he had no idea what he was doing, other than following his mama's orders. Babs was the evil mastermind of that outfit.
The other reason is he set the stage for the Clinton's to become billionaires by opening the door wide open for the Chinese to import cheap crap into the US for Wal-Mart to sell. THAT is what made the Bush and Clinton Clans such goombahs, and why Babs went on record to call Bubba "The son I never had".

I will NEVER truly understand the mindset of people who are out of work because the factories their families have worked in for generations have shut down, will happily sign 2 year contracts to move to China to teach the Chinese how to set up and operate those same factories in China.
