Title: Lord Have Mercy....please?

ACCUWEATHER - A storm that will bring major disruptions of travel and daily activities to much of the nation will hit Washington, D.C., with heavy snow and a wintry mix Sunday night and Monday.

The storm is likely to bring up to a foot of snow with some locally higher amounts possible in the heaviest bands of snow.

That amount of snow may be difficult to shovel, especially with the snow being preceded by a layer of ice.

Lengthy flight delays and many cancelations are expected during and well ahead of the storm, since it will move from west to east across the nation this weekend.

One or two rain showers will occur Sunday afternoon, ahead of the main storm.

The main storm could bring very heavy precipitation rates Sunday night and Monday. Snowfall rates can reach or surpass 2 inches per hour in some locations. Such intense snowfall can overwhelm shoveling and plowing operations, as well as strand motorists.

Motorists traveling on on area interstates should expect very slippery conditions with the potential for road closures in some locations. Conditions will be poor for travel throughout the mid-Atlantic, even down to Raleigh, N.C., on Monday.

More cold weather will follow the storm Tuesday and Wednesday.

We lucked out..we were in the 9in range and we ended up with 1in...hope you have the same luck..

This is the first winter I've experienced like this in my 42 years living in the Washington region.   It's more like you'd get in a mild Buffalo, NY winter.

In Buffalo, they usually get at least one snowfall of 4 feet or more...otherwise, I can't recall snow cover on the ground this frequently.

Global warming my butt.

The first wave came through and nothing stuck.  We'll see what kind of punch the back end packs tonight.

Snow and ice spread into the Northeast during the early morning hours on Monday as colder air rushed down from the north, meeting up with moisture moving in from the west.

The storm will cause major air and traffic disruptions on Monday, as many of the largest hubs in the mid-Atlantic will be in or near the path of the storm.

The heaviest snow--with amounts of 6 inches or so--will unfold from the West Virginia mountains to northern and central Virginia to extreme southern New Jersey.

This includes Washington, D.C., Harrisonburg, Va., Dover, Del., and Atlantic City, N.J.

The majority of the snow will fall during the morning and early afternoon hours on Monday. By Monday evening, a sprawling area of high pressure building in from the west, bringing an end to the snow as colder, drier air moves in and the storm moves offshore.

7:30 PM on the East....up to 45 mph sustained winds but no precipitation.

Never drive on wooded and tree-lined country roads in these conditions.

Monday was a nice day, 60 degrees. Then all hell broke loose. All the schools and some businesses closed down on Wed. Yesterday, nearly all of it melted, and now, I have to use a boat to take the garbage out.  ^-^ We are expecting another round of snow by Wed. Gotta get out of this place!

The snow started here in Kentucky a couple of hours ago, we already have two inches.  It wasn't even predicted to start snowing for another bit.  They are saying 1 to 3 inches by morning but with the big flakes coming down right now, we'll have 3 inches in another hour or so.

It's been a pattern here this winter - a couple of days in the 60's and 70's - snow melts and people are walking around in t-shirts and flip-flops, and the next day - it's back down in the 30's and 20's and the snow is back.  It's been hell on my sinuses!

It's been nasty here, too. Right now, there are flakes flying about, but nothing substantial. I have to look outside to check the weather because it changes so fast. One never knows whether to put on a jacket or Eskimo suit in this crazy Ohio weather.

Weather on the coast in Orange County: Sun-Mon- Sunny, Hi 80-82, low 54-55 F. Humidity 23%. Wind 6 mph.

Only complaint, we could really use a lot more rain this season.

LOL!  That boat sailed.

But I recall back in the middle of the real estate boom (02/03), I had sold a VA foreclosure to a bilingual Hispanic couple with a couple of rug rats for "only" $105,000.

In 2006 I sold it for them for $350,000.

They moved to Austin Texas....showed me a photo of a brick-front colonial which they had paid CASH for only $215,000.

Makes me smile whenever I think of them.

I saw similar things back in the mid 2000's there.  Many people flee'd from the Naples FLA area after the hurricanes. They were able to plunk down cash for palatial homes in and around Austin/Round Rock, etc.

I read that during the housing market crash, the Naples FLA area was one of the hardest hit.

Hope that you had a pleasant visit, then!

The wife and I usually take a few days each Spring to take in the Bluebonnets and spend some time in and around Fredericksburg. Plenty of good stuff to do there and it's very relaxing.

Fredericksburg's a great trip, especially this time of year.  I used to live 1/2 south of there.

If you're doing the bluebonnets, be sure to check out the Willow City Loop outside F'burg.  One of the best bluebonnet shows I have ever laid eyes on!

We typically go up there (F'burg) around our anniversary in May. Thinking about doing something different this year. Route 66 run starting in Missouri or something along that line. Still working on that.

We'll be heading out towards Warrenton/Round Top for the Bluebonnets and the Warrenton Antiques Week thing. As g'son calls it: "junkin' " .

Warrenton was "junkin" but Round Top was more high end, IIRC.
