I thought this video is pretty amazing and deserved its own thread. Not sure about the rules around here, @sneakypete and @corbe
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOcABtJTpho
The equipment used and the list (with timestamps) is available at the YouTube link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOcABtJTpho
Anyone have others to add?

By all means @Suppressed only Rap is banned, just kidding.
-
I dunno what the rules are either, so I usually just toss in stuff I like.
Speaking of axeslingers IMO Nuno Bettencourt is one of the best out there now.

Rules?????
As long as you don't physically threaten anyone or post porn/hard-core obscenities, I'm pretty flexible. IF I ever have a problem with what you or anyone else posts here,I will send you a PM to let you know why.
I will suggest that the next time you post something like this you give it a stand-alone thread title. Something like "Greatest French Horn Riffs",or whatever applies to what it is you are highlighting.
Just trying to go to a specific day format so the threads aren't so long and take so long to load. Plus stuff is easier to find.
-
Rest in Peace Lou Reed and Dick Wagner.

@andy58-in-nh
IMHO,threads like this NEED to stand alone. You did good by giving it an accurate thread title,too.
The Sunday,Monday,etc,etc threads are for general music posts by individuals. People are pretty much free to post any sort of music on any of them they want to post. It's just an effort by me to simplify posting and finding posts so one thread doesn't just drag on catching every music post made for months.
One of the music mods will lock each thread at the end of that day and start a new thread for the next day. Songs are easier to find that way and the threads load quicker.

This belongs on the 100 Greatest Yukele Riffs thread.

Bass riffs count?
Sorry about the lack of quality. Henley's lawyers have been on a cease and desist tear on youtube, by the looks of it. 90% of the uploads are unavailable now.
@EC
Henley is,and always has been an insufferable bleep leftie. How that SOB got away with calling 9-11 when a naked teenage girl (15 or 16 yo) mysteriously OD'ed in his hotel suite,is something I will never understand. IIRC,he was in his late 40's at the time. My guess is the EMS and cops on the scene got very nice gifts from "Santa" in their stockings.
Hell of a musician,though. There is no taking that away from him.

@Suppressed
Thanks for that! That video was like a walk thru every set list I played throughout my gigging "career" with some extra awesomeness thrown in for good measure!

@Frank Cannon
You are a sick,sick man,Frank.
BTW,am I the only one wondering which homeless shelter Miss Vicky ended up living in?

They should label this "rock/pop", no Stevie Ray Vonn, no Neil Young, no Rory Gallagher, no Johnny Winter, no Queen.
It never occurred to me, "Day Tripper" almost sounds like it could have been lifted a bit from the "Pretty Woman" riff.
Even if I have heard the song hundreds of times to where it loses it's initial hook, I don't think any list of 100 rock riffs can be taken seriously without listing this one; especially for the time it came out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8Nb38Bna0A
I'm sure something by the Who could be listed, mainly "My Generation" but perhaps others.
I'd say the list is trendy and modern, I may not be the biggest fan of the song myself, but "Inna Gadda Da Vida" left out? There are probably many more omissions one could think of.
"Blitzkrieg Bop" even, I'd take over some of those listed. Not sure if Ten Years After "I'm going home" is on there, that is another one to consider.
So, I'd grade it, a hoser list.

Cream, "Sunshine of Your Love" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fnr4LHYxJtY)
-
@TomSea
You are right. For you, one of the most identifiable riffs ever:

-
@EC
Rory Gallagher and some of those others, I suppose are known for blues music more than rock, in that, I can see the distinction.
-
Fortunate Son is listed for CCR in the youtube video;
Bad Moon Rising would be my first pick for them. Run Through The Jungle has one heckuva riff. Green River is fairly good too. They have a number of fine songs.
-
For CCR - Proud Mary.
I know the guitar riff doesn't really rate the term great, but it's one of those that is somehow immensely satisfying to listen to.
-
Mountain, "Mississippi Queen" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khjaSIz5tQo)
Ten Years After, "Love Like a Man" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORk5ry8KnEQ)
