Authorities in Pennsylvania are looking for clues that will bring to justice the individual who is responsible for cutting off the ears of an 8-week-old pit bull puppy on Wednesday.
According to KYW-TV, the dog was found in the streets with his ears cut off and had nearly bled to death.

Dr. Kelly Slattery, the veterinarian that performed surgery on the puppy, said it appeared the ears were painfully cut off using scissors or a knife.
“The ears are very vascular, lots of nerves in there,” she explained. “So it’s a very painful area and it looked like whoever did this to him had literally just cut the ears off with either scissors or a knife.”
“With him being so young, and getting cold and getting weaker, it would have been a matter of hours,” Slattery added.

Fortunately, the dog’s hearing will not be affected by the injuries he sustained.
According to the founder of a local animal shelter, removing a puppy’s ears is a sign of dog fighting.
“They cut the ears off, so they can’t grab them in a fighting ring,” Buzz Miller, founder of PACT for Animals, said. “A dog this small can be used as a bait dog. It would be completely destroyed, horribly.”
Police are urging anyone with information to contact them.
