The Memo: Trump allies want to turn midterms into ‘impeachment referendum’
By Niall Stanage - 05/01/18 06:00 AM EDT

Influential figures close to President Trump want to make the midterm elections a referendum on his performance — and on his possible impeachment.

The people advancing this view are mostly veterans of the 2016 campaign, including Trump’s first campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, former deputy campaign manager David Bossie and Trump’s erstwhile chief strategist Stephen Bannon, The Hill has learned.

Democratic enthusiasm in the elections is likely to be sky-high, given the broad liberal antipathy to the president. The best way to counteract that, the cadre of loyalists believe, is to make the stakes high enough to draw hordes of conservative voters to the polls.

I actually think this is a smart idea.  Not because I think it will draw out hordes of pro-Trump voters, but because I think the prospect of the next two years being consumed by impeachment will turn off a lot of moderates who don't like Trump, but don't want impeachment either.

Not a bad idea to press Democrats early, and try to force them to state publicly --  before their primaries -- whether or not they support impeachment as of today.

If I recall, a few extremists democRATs have introduced impeachment legislation.  Perhaps the GOP should bring it to the floor and force them to vote on it.

Impeachment for what crimes?  What charges?  Do their articles claim "just cuz he's not Hillary"? It's way beyond ridiculous and asinine, at this point.

Holding the left to account for their inflamed rhetoric is a great idea. Especially so with Trump's popularity on the ascendency.

Even that human windsock Romney's out there today saying Trump's doing everything he woulda done if elected.

Ridiculous doesn't even begin to describe it.

Quote from: http://thehill.com/homenews/house/341677-house-dem-files-article-of-impeachment-against-trump
In filing his impeachment article, Sherman argues that Trump’s abrupt firing of James Comey as FBI director in May amounts to obstructing justice and "high crimes and misdemeanors" amid the probes of whether Trump's campaign colluded with the Russian government to swing the election.

I triple dog dare them.  They are just looking for revenge for what the GOP did to Clinton.

I'm unsure I need a realistic justification.

Yup. Demand the Rats offer up one piece of impeachable as in Would pass a floor vote Majority, conduct on Trump's part for all of their rhetoric over the last 2 years.

Just 1.

They can't do it.

Hoist them with their own petard.
