Trump chooses South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley as UN ambassador
Published November 23, 2016 FoxNews.com
President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday chose South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Haley was an outspoken Trump critic throughout much of his campaign, yet she's now poised to be the first female Cabinet-level official in the Trump administration.
"Governor Haley has a proven track record of bringing people together regardless of background or party affiliation to move critical policies forward for the betterment of her state and our country," Trump said in a statement. "She is also a proven dealmaker, and we look to be making plenty of deals. She will be a great leader representing us on the world stage."
Born in South Carolina and of Indian descent, Haley is the second Asian-American to serve as U.S. governor, following ex-Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.

Why would she go from governor to UN ambassador? Seems like a step down in my opinion.
-
What am I missing..I don't understand this appointment.
-
Unless I missed something this is a good choice.

I'm guessing the queen of the aryan brotherhood isn't too happy. This is her reaction to the suggestion that Haley be secretary of state.

I don't either.

Just seems to me that he's more interested getting people out of offices they currently hold and put them into positions that he can remove them from on a whim.

Most of the echo chamber at TOS are questioning this pick.

Lincoln did something similar when he appointed Seward to be his SOS and Chase to be his Treasurer. He eliminated his biggest political rivals by putting them into his administration. I think in this case Haley allows him to check off a couple of boxes in the "affirmative action" categories as well. She is articulate and smart, so there is no doubt she can handle the job.
So far, I haven't seen much evidence that Trump wants to "drain the swamp" and fill his cabinet with competent people from outside of government. But I also haven't seen any appointments that cause me great concern.
From a policy standpoint, all I keep hearing is tax cuts and infrastructure. What about the deficit, folks? Are these guys just going to ignore that?

Makes sense now. Thanks for posting. Never knew how ugly she was. That is a racist remark.

You heard the man when he was on the stump. Borrow until be can't borrow anymore and then default. Expect an India style remonitization to the "Donny Dollar" within the next 3 years.

Pays more? and Federal Bennies?
-
Did she accept it, or did he just appoint her?
Why go from Governor to a UN Ambassador that seems to be nothing more than a figurehead position?
-

It is a racist remark. Meanwhile I got flamed at TOS because I suggested that Anne Coulter eat a sandwich and take a Midol.
-

It's a fairly visible job, plus it gives her credibility in foreign policy should she ever decide to run for president.

If this is the direction conservatives are going in, then count me out.

Piker.
I managed to get blocked on twitter by both Coulter and Laura Ingraham at the same time for saying that the only difference between them was about 50 mg of Haldol.

@Cripplecreek, I think so too. Question: Who do you think he gets into the Chairmanship of the RNC?

I don't believe he has control over who gets the RNC Chair position.

I think he has a lot of say-so. His suggestions will be seriously considered. There was no other reason to pull Priebus to the White House.

LOL. Top Notch!

Back in January she wanted Donald Trump to deport Nikki Haley.
-
Just now, Ann is doubling down, saying Trump picking too many girls.

I used to know them both, decades ago. I never thought I'd see them like this.
Sad.

If you elect a New York liberal you can expect him to govern like a New York liberal.

Ann Coulter just makes me want to barf. How does this thing call herself an American?
-

Why were you hanging out by a dumpster behind a strip club?

Indeed.

She must really want to distance herself from the Confederate Flag.
-
She must really want to distance herself from the Confederate Flag.
Working for Trump is a good way to do it since he feels the same about it as she does.
-
I am glad to see her leaving actually as I see her more libertarian/liberal than conservative. It appears that McMaster the Lt. governor who will take her place is more conservative; I'm hoping so anyways. We need to keep our majority of conservative governors.

Has Haley come out and accepted the position?
-
Has Haley come out and accepted the position?
Not that I can see. And I'm not even sure he's officially extended the offer.
-
Has Haley come out and accepted the position?
It is being reported in the MSM as a done deal.
-
I really like Nikki Haley but I'm not understanding this appointment. As a Governor what does she know about foreign relations? Commerce Secretary, you bet. On the other hand it is great experience if she were to run for President down the road padding the resume. I always said the first female president would be a Republican.
-
Well... if he goes this route and Mitt Romney I guess you cannot accuse him of hiring entirely yes men?
-
Considering his apparent feelings about the UN, why shouldn't he put someone who has been critical of him in there? Costs him nothing, can be seen as a willingness to listen to opponents, and he can completely ignore her.

Now he gets a strong Trump loyalist for Governor of SC, where he had a strident opponent before. What I can't see is any upside for her. UN Ambassador seems like quite a step down from Governor. I'm more interested in seeing who the RNC replaces Priebus with.
With Trump half of this Cabinet-building game is seeing who replaces the people he nominates. He's shopping for one more nominee that nobody has ever had to shop for before: Who's going to run his blind trust? He floated his daughter as a trial balloon, but I hope he figured out that isn't going to fly. I think that's what all the Romney talk is really about.
-

Now THAT is an intriguing thought.

Now THAT is an intriguing thought.
Well, it might just be my pea-brain at work, but if he's serious about keeping his businesses alive while he's President, the recruiting of a CEO has to be a major deep-dive experience. Having the clueless press talking Romney up for SoS is a perfect cover for the extended talks concerning the new CEO of Trump, Incorporated, which has GOT to be a big deal going on at Trump Tower.
-
That is a quite clever idea.
Could look pretty dumb too, if Romney get the SoS gig after all...
