Title: Democrats and Republicans in Sacramento have found something to agree on: An audit of the bullet tra
Post by: SZonian on February 01, 2018, 03:52:08 pm
Democratic legislators have heard enough. They've decided to take a closer look at Gov. Jerry Brown's deeply troubled bullet train.

Brown is a lame duck headed for the door with waning Capitol influence. Neither he nor the state High-Speed Rail Authority tried to block the Legislature's increased scrutiny. It probably wouldn't have mattered if they had.

Democratic legislators are running for reelection or another office. And the bullet train — vastly underfunded and several years behind schedule — is good campaign fuel for Republicans.

A 14-member audit committee of both legislative houses voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize a thorough study of the project's handling. The probe will be conducted by State Auditor Elaine Howle, a nonpartisan, highly respected veteran fiscal sleuth.

Quote
The state has even passed an unpopular gas tax increase to fund its share of highway repairs.
Note entirely true...estimates are that at least 1/3 of that money is going into "green" idiocy.

If only they'll hold off for a few months more.

After 45 years of sticking it to the California taxpayer Jerry Brown is THIS CLOSE to pulling it off & getting out of Dodge without a scratch.

Been out of CA politics for too long, @To-Whose-Benefit?   I remember the new freeway from Laguna Niguel to my sister's home in Costa Mesa. You paid to use it with a transponder on your car.  I did not have to go out of my way to the 405.  I do believe that one came in under budget.  It was supposed to go farther south, but some minnows got in the way.

So this was about 20 years ago.  What happened?

Caltrain

They already have a test model of this train crap.

And it's usually half empty.

The obsession the far left in California have with
commuter trains
shows their utter ignorance of basic economics.
<P>
For example, the Brookings Institute, which is a left-wing think tank, published an article that states, "of the more than 1,800 mass transit systems in the United States—including those running trains, buses, or other transport modes—only about two percent reported that fare revenue exceeded operating expenses in 2013." https://www.brookings.edu/blog/brookings-now/2015/06/03/the-10-u-s-metro-rail-systems-that-lose-the-most-money-per-passenger/ (https://www.brookings.edu/blog/brookings-now/2015/06/03/the-10-u-s-metro-rail-systems-that-lose-the-most-money-per-passenger/)

It might have been this Corrupt-ocrat.

I don't recall which SoCal freeway it was but I do remember Gray Davis promising the reporters at the ribbon cutting ceremony that it would be the Last freeway that would ever be built in Klepto-fornia.

It was the 73.  Too easy!  In fact so easy that my mom could use the transponder I got for her to buy McDonald's food with the danged thing.  Drive through, pay with the transponder.  My sister finked on her.

My mom just laughed...

Truth be known, the reason I haven't been around in a while is that I had heard it through the grapevine that parts of TBR had become just as Trump-groveling as TOS and I stayed away so I wouldn't get Zotted a second time.

Zotted at TBR?  You gotta be a really bad hombre to get zotted here; like doxxing-other-members bad. Just supporting, or vocally detesting, Trump will not get you zotted.
