Canada Poised to Legalize Euthanasia for Disabled and Mentally Ill

Euthanasia/Assisted Suicide:

How It Starts: It’s just a safety valve, a tiny change in medical ethics and the law. Protective guidelines will protect against abuse!

Where It Is Now: There are too many obstacles to death! We have to make it easier to die!

Where It’s Going: Death on demand for any reason (already the law in Germany).

Some jurisdictions are moving along this trajectory quickly and some more slowly. But over time, that is the way the current flows.

Canada is speed runner in this regard. After its supreme court imposed a positive right to euthanasia in 2015, the country cheered and embraced “medical assistance in dying” (MAID) with an enthusiasm that shocked me to my bone marrow. Parliament passed a law with a weak limitation that death must be “reasonably foreseeable” to qualify for a lethal jab.

That wasn’t good enough. The death pushers immediately began agitating to expand eligibility, including the filing of lawsuits, one of which was successful in Quebec.

This raises a lot of concerns.  Does this ONLY apply to the one requesting euthanasia or can someone with Power of Attorney or a doctor request it?  I see this as opening the door for government to step in and euthanize those that are living too long or have collected  gov't benefits for too long and are seen as a burden on the 'system'  -- selective population control.

Who makes the determination as to who qualifies.  In the case of the mentally ill; again, does someone else have the power to request euthanasia?

It is a sin according to several religions to commit suicide. I wonder what the views are from the churches (Catholic in particular) on euthanasia?

Think:
Kurt Vonnegut --> "Welcome to the Monkey House" --> "ethical suicide parlers"
or
"Soylent Green" --> "going home".

A Fishrrman prediction:
This is going to become widespread and "standardized" in the civilized world in the future.
Like it or not.

Can we send Jobama up for his final treatment?

Like it or not?  At some point in time folks we have to STOP this liberal insanity!!!

I think it's time to stop just accepting what the hell is going on.

Remember our elected officials work for US -- time to start making demands of our employees.  They do NOT own us.  We OWN them....there are millions of us and 535 members of Congress.  We ARE the government.

We have been practicing euthanasia in the USA at least since 1995.  That is when they did it to my father, without permission from anyone.  They call it COMFORT MEASURES, and they are a bit sneaky about it.  Both of my parents received COMFORT MEASURES.  So did my father's best friend, but he made the decision to have it done.  Once they started, he was dead within 1.5 hours.  With my father, they took 1.5 days of incrementally increasing his morphine drip.

When I was a publisher of a newspaper, and I told this to my editor in 2006, he was not aware and had a hard time believing it.   But yes, doctors have been practicing COMFORT MEASURES for a long time in the USA.

If Canadians were half smart they would include politicians, a great majority are much more of a drain on society than the disabled and mentally ill.

My father had terminal cancer with a life expectancy of 6 mos. max. and towards the end he was given morphine drops as needed for pain and 'comfort' as it helped assist with breathing too.

I have heard that given enough morphine will eventually take its toll. I haven't heard of a morphine 'drip' till now...that is concerning.

No matter how it starts, euthanasia for incurable suffering or terminal illness, it will always be transformed into what they really want:  Organ Donors.

It's what those creatures do.

I had a morphine drip after my cancer surgery.   They took it away after a few days.

I have no problem with a terminally ill patient being dosed with heroin, even, if that's what they want to alleviate the pain.

I certainly have a problem with people who aren't the patient requesting the patient be terminated for any reason whatsoever, unless that patient had in his "living will" given specific instructions.

God, hard to believe you all have not heard of COMFORT MEASURES.  Doctors do it without permission, and with permission if the patient is knowledgeable about the procedure.

My Dad's friend, he fell and had a hairline crack in his elbow.  Having gone to the hospital, he contracted pneumonia.  He was bad, and he decided to pull the plug.  He had his mental acuity, but they had him on a respirator.  He decided to do COMFORT MEASURES.  I am NOT 100% certain he could not pull out of his predicament.  In any case, they did as he wished, and he was dead in 1.5 hours.  I stood there and watched it almost in disbelief.  My Mother and I were there with the family as it all went down.  This is a guy that was a retired Captain of the Coast Guard, in great shape, mid 70s.  I think doctors failed him miserably.

I say do not trust AMERICAN physicians.  Half of them are incompetent.  My wife is a doctor, but she is from overseas.

JUST REMEMBER THE 4TH LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH IN THE USA IS DOCTORS.

Within the Nazi administration, the idea of including in the program people with physical disabilities had to be expressed carefully, because the Reich Minister of Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels, had a deformed right leg. After 1937, the acute shortage of labour in Germany arising from rearmament, meant that anyone capable of work was deemed to be "useful", exempted from the law and the rate of sterilisation declined.

The term "Aktion T4" is a post-war coining; contemporary German terms included Euthanasie (euthanasia) and Gnadentod (merciful death). The T4 programme stemmed from the Nazi Party policy of "racial hygiene", a belief that the German people needed to be cleansed of racial enemies, which included anyone confined to a mental health facility and people with simple physical disabilities.  ...

It's everywhere. It will not be only for those who want to kill themselves, just wait. Slippery slope, and all that.

Spain approves euthanasia law
    By Al Goodman, CNN
Updated 30 min ago | Posted on Mar 18, 2021

(CNN) -- Spain approved a law permitting euthanasia on Thursday by a 202 to 141 vote in parliament, making it the fourth European Union country to do so.

"Today, a majority of parliament has borne witness to people who are ill who have been clamoring for years for this right," Socialist Party MP Maria Luisa Carcedo said during the final debate.

She cited the case of Ramon Sampedro, a paralyzed Spaniard who recorded his assisted suicide in 1998, a story later told in the Oscar-winning 2004 movie, "The Sea Inside."

Spain's euthanasia law permits people who have "serious, chronic illness with no chance of recovery and with unbearable suffering" to request assistance from a doctor to end their life, according to the bill posted on parliament's website. ...
