Christie’s connections to bridge closure grow

By Julian Hattem

A new person connected to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) was on the front lines when George Washington Bridge lanes were closed, a revelation that will raise additional questions about Christie’s role in the closures.

According to documents obtained by MSNBC, Port Authority Lt. Thomas “Chip” Michaels, a childhood friend of the governor, was at the bridge when access lanes were closed in September. He drove around the Christie appointee who supervised the closing, David Wildstein.

Michaels reportedly coached Christie’s son’s little league hockey team, and his brother is a powerful Republican lobbyist whose stock has risen during the Christie administration.

Michaels described the effect of the lane closures as a "traffic disaster" in a text message sent the day after the lanes were closed to Wildstein, the man Christie appointed to be the head of interstate capital projects at the Port Authority.

Christie has been under fire for his role in the September lane closures on the bridge, which connects New Jersey to Manhattan.

Emails from a top Christie ally seem to show that the lanes were closed as retribution against the Democratic mayor of Fort Lee, N.J., who did not support Christie’s run for reelection.

The New Jersey governor has said that he did not know the bridge was closed for political reasons and has fired the aide who sent the emails, deputy chief of staff Bridget Anne Kelly.

The documents about Michaels’s activities while the lanes were closed were revealed in a subpoena from the state assembly’s Transportation Committee last year and released publicly in January.

It's hard to imagine Christie being unaware of what was going on.

PA probes cop who seemed to have Bridgegate foreknowledge

The Port Authority has launched its own investigation of a PAPD lieutenant who sent text messages that suggest he had advance knowledge of the George Washington Bridge lane closings that led to traffic nightmares in Fort Lee.

Thomas “Chip” Michaels, a 15-year veteran, apparently knew on Sept. 8 of the plan. “Sir, is there going to be new traffic installed for Monday the 9th?” Michaels texted PAPD Capt. Darcy Licorish the day before the closures began.

The following morning, Michaels texted David Wildstein, Gov. Chris Christie’s point man at the PA, about how Fort Lee bridge traffic was “fkd up here.”

And on the 10th, he provided Wildstein with another text update: “Local ft lee traffic disaster.”

A PA spokesman said Michaels’ status is “under review,’’ The lieutenant’s union declined to comment.

The probe of Michaels, whose brother, Jeffrey, is a prominent lobbyist, was ordered by PA Executive Director Patrick Foye. It will be carried out by the agency’s inspector general and the PAPD chief of department.

Christie has insisted he had no advance knowledge of the closings, allegedly ordered by his associates to punish Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich for not endorsing him in last November’s election.

The state legislature and the US Attorney’s Office are also investigating the closings.

I am no fan of Christie but when I saw MSNBC  I quit reading. The Star Magazine has more cred.

No matter what evidence for or against Christie.

It is done. Hillary got what she wanted She needs this to crown herself now and eliminate Cuomo,Booker,Warren.

She is running on name recognition only and winning for now. But Christie is done nationally.

Trenton, NJ mayor Tony Mack was convicted on 6 counts of federal corruption charges on February 7, and all the media can focus on is a traffic jam in New Jersey six months ago.

And Ray Ray in NOLA barely got a media bleep and was not a democrat.
