Obama to address income inequality

President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington.
The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue.
“The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
In his last State of the Union address, Obama made several proposals that were intended to help the poor and reduce economic equality, but few have gained any traction.
The president called for hiking the minimum wage from $7.25 per hour to $9 per hour, and for providing universal access to prekindergarten education for all 4-year-olds.
But the White House itself has spent most of the year focused on other issues, including immigration reform, gun control and battles with Congress over government funding.
Wednesday’s event will take place in Anacostia, a predominantly African-American section of Washington, D.C., with a high unemployment rate.
The event will be sponsored by the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank founded by former Clinton White House chief of staff John Podesta. The group is now run by Neera Tanden, who served as a senior advisor on health care reform in the Obama Administration.
Obama’s new focus on income inequality comes amid increased conversation about economic trends that might be exacerbating income gaps, including a rising stock market helping wealthier households, and a sluggish job market making it difficult for many others to find jobs.
The president will also use the remarks to comment on the Affordable Care Act, as the White House hopes to rally interest in the law.
On Tuesday, White House press secretary Jay Carney dismissed questions about whether the event — focused primarily on the economy — could create "whiplash" on the heels of the president's attempt to reboot messaging on ObamaCare.
“Healthcare security is an element of economic security, so they are interrelated,” Carney said, adding that the economy was an “elemental” issue for most Americans.

High-paying jobs (outside of government) are extremely difficult to find in ObamaVille - and that's just the way he wants it. High taxes, excessive government spending, and oppressive Federal regulations have conspired to reduce opportunities for economic advancement in America.
At the same time, Progressives are trying to turn as many people as possible into permanent government dependents. This is the exact opposite of free enterprise and of the ideals upon which this nation was founded - and yet, predictably Leftists - led by Obama - are blaming the very system they are now working to destroy for the perilous state of the nation and are offering state-provided "security" as a shield against a cruel world. Gee, where has that ever happened before? Damned near everywhere in the civilized world except America, in the last century. Followed by death and destruction on a massive scale. Yeah, let's do that again.
Equality of opportunity under the rule of law= liberty. Inequality of wealth is the economic result of such liberty. But more wealth for everyone is also the result. Marxists like Obama never understand that, or don't want to. And yes, he's a Marxist. Get over it.
For the meanwhile, forcing an increase in the minimum wage will throw more people out of work, create more dependents, and give the Left more over over the Grand Army of the Former Republic. Unless we fight back - and now is the time - the nation is done.

Nobody listens to him anymore.
"If you like you healthcare plan, you can keep your healthcare plan. Period."
He has no credibility and even the low income voters are catching on that he's nothing but talk. He campaigns, and nothing happens.
If he wants to argue that tax increases on the wealthy are the solution, we should welcome that. Even middle class voters will be hit with Obamacare taxes.
Obamacare is a rolling disaster, and the Democrats know that. They are DESPERATE to change the subject.
Heard the latest one? "Where's the Republican plan?" Why are they asking this? So they can change the subject and have a new target.
Republicans should be patient and steady and let this mess gradually unravel. Obammy knows there's no "fixing" Obamacare with a GOP House.
A slow bleed is much better than a quick death. Let these bastards twist in the wind for the next year.
