They work so well for orcish tanks! :silly:

Less sarcastically, those are materials and people-hours not used against Ukraine. And I'm sure firefighters will love those contraptions when Ukraine starts fires.

You are another person who hates ev's because conservatives have been told to hate ev's.
No. This conservative doesn't "hate EVs," and I doubt anyone at TBR hates inanimate objects like electric vehicles. We also tend to think for ourselves. No one has told me what to think about electric vehicles.

This conservative knows that an EV is not practical for where I live or my needs. This conservative doesn't want the government to take away my gasoline-powered vehicle and force me either to stay home, walk 7 miles to the closest grocery store, or buy an extremely expensive and inefficient vehicle that is inappropriate for my climate and terrain.

New Bombshell Evidence Emerges: Was Trump Set Up in Classified Docs Saga?

This week in Florida, Judge Aileen Cannon unsealed a trove of new documents that Jack Smith fought to keep hidden. And you'll soon find out why. Among the documents unsealed were extensive exhibits, motions, and other filings shedding light on the intricate web of communication between the Biden White House and the National Archives and Records Administration in the lead-up to Trump's indictment.

Investigative journalist Julie Kelly found something interesting in the documents that could change everything. The first things is testimony from an FBI agent who testified that the General Services Association (GSA) had been in possession of Trump's boxes in Virginia before ordering Trump's team to come get them.
...
"So an entire pallet full of boxes that had been held by GSA somewhere outside of DC is dumped at Mar-a-Lago," Kelly notes. "Apparently these are the boxes that ended up containing papers with 'classified markings.'"

"I will double check indictment but I don't recall this event in the timeline," she added.

So, it appears that the Biden administration may have been responsible for shipping classified information to Trump's Mar-a-Lago home in Florida. This development is significant because Trump has previously blamed the GSA for packing the boxes that contained the classified documents, only to later accuse Trump of essentially stealing them and using that as pretext for sending the  FBI to raid his Mar-a-Lago home in August 2022.

Whether a pre-planned Hate-Trump set-up or just Hate-Trump opportunism, it's pretty obvious why Smithyroo tried to suppress this exculpating, almost certainly Brady, evidence. Chooo-ooo-choooooooo!

Classic Rock Album of the Day- Deep Purple- Shades of Deep Purple- (1968) ** 1/2

Been having a good time lately reviewing and listening to bands who whisked through the breakthroughs and rapid fire changes of what constituted the transition of rock between 1964 and say about 1969.  There is no doubt that 100% pivoted on what the Beatles were doing.  But in retrospect, the way rock changed in those 5 years was breathtakingly rapid.  Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, The Who, and Led Zeppelin are maybe the some of the best examples of great bands that worked the formula to perfection.  None replicated the impact of the Beatles, but all 4 took an idea, ran with it, in a different way, and almost made genres upon themselves.

Deep Purple, of course is centered around the great guitarist Richie Blackmore.  Blackmore did a fantastic job circumventing line up changes, that resulted in just enough of an incremental sound changes to keep the fans guessing, and in some cases, the music fresh.  In their debut album, and few subsequent, I think you will find both crtics and fans liking the original lineup, just for that classic sound.  A line up with Blackmore, Paice,  and Lord is the backbone of that heavy sound.  Their debut album is sorely missing a flailing screaming front man singer who seemed in this music era was needed to complete the rock and roll persona and experience.  That is why I believe this why Rod Evan's tenure was so short.  And neeless to say his foray into Captain Beyond was a disaster and it underscored his shortcomings a vocalist.

In Deep Purple terms, this is a substandard LP, but one has to be fascinated in hearing the progeny of the thought processes that even in their infancy can be plucked out of bits and pieces of this album.  In the department of adapting to the psychadaelia theming that all their peers were invoking, Purple was pretty much failing on that account.  Purple were great hard rockers.  Not a great band playing like an Iron Butterfly clone.   That is why about a 1/3 of this LP is filler, but one can't discount Hush, and "And the Address" as glimpses of what is to become.  Plus the fact that Blackmore had to rely on three staple covers to fill vinyl is not a good look.  They did the covers well, but others did them better.  Well maybe not Hush, and they pretty much cut that one out as their own.

Fun Fact:  Yes' Rick Wakeman picked this LP as the greatest British LP ever made.   No idea why.

Side 1-
-------------

And the Address-  Fine instrumental, and we get spared Rod Evans for a bit.  Has kind of psychadaelia MC5/Blue Cheer touch to it, but putting Lord, Paice, and Blackmore in a focused like jam session was a winner-  2

Hush-  As I mentioned it is a cover, but one that pretty much is associated with them instead of the originals.  Does anyone even remember Joe South?  Yes, this one's Purple's, just as much as All Along the Watchtower's is Hendrix'.   Song incorporates some psychadaelia, a prologue like heavy feel too, and enough hook to make it chart worthy.  In retrospect, if Hush hadn't charted, would we had even seen a second Deep Purple album.  Not so sure.  1

One More Rainy Day-  Very dated '60's effort that misses the mark. Song sounds like a slightly edgy Monkey's tune. 7

Prelude: Happiness/I'm So Glad- Kind of a Mix of Cream's, Ulysses, and mash up of Iron Butterfly, and the slightest tinge of King Crimson.  Even seems to have a hint of prog......   Prog?  Naw............    6

Side 2-
--------------

Mandrake Root- Kind of draws from that Sookie Sookie Steppenwolf melodic line, and with the same level of hard rocking late '60's flair.   Well played, and enough turns and innovation to make it a winner on this LP.  4

Help- Bizarre cover of the Beatle's classic.  Extra oddity points for picking one from early Beatles catalog.  A crooning sappy ballad of this upbeat number is worse than strange.  Bet Blackmore wanted this one back for a second opinion. 8

Love Help Me- Solid standard rocker, that really doesn't sound or come across as a Deep Purple.  Sure seems the band was struggling with what sound they wanted to go with.  Even this song, as uneven as it is, does have some redeeming moments with that quaint '60's vibe in what almost seems to be a schizophrenic LP. 5

Hey Joe-  I love this song, whoever sings it, and......of course Hendrix did it best.  I do like how Purple liluminated some strange but off beat angles to it though.  Spanish theming, sans Spaghetti Western like.....ramming right into the famous melodic line.  Nice.  3

Trump seems to get cold feet about testifying in New York hush money trial: ‘I would if it’s necessary’

Donald Trump appears to be getting cold feet about taking the stand to testify in his criminal hush money trial, after he previously insisted that he would “absolutely” do so.

The former president called in to Newsmax on Thursday night after the conclusion of day seven of his historic trial, where he was asked by anchor Greg Kelly about his intentions to testify in his own defence based on what he had seen of the proceedings so far.

“Well I would if it’s necessary,” Mr Trump answered.

He continued: “Right now, I don’t know if you heard about today. Today was just incredible. People are saying – the experts, I’m talking about legal scholars and experts – they’re saying, ‘What kind of a case is this? There is no case.’

“Uh, you know they had David Pecker, testifying today. And he was, you know, people are saying there’s no case. There’s literally no case!”

Fund manager: Jim Biden was in business with Qatari officials

The alleged arrangements would be some of the closest known links between a Biden relative and a foreign government.

By Ben Schreckinger

04/28/2024 07:00 AM EDT

New details about Jim Biden’s foreign fundraising efforts are spilling out in a Kentucky bankruptcy court, where recent testimony indicates that President Joe Biden’s brother partnered with Qatari government officials in his quest to find money for U.S. health care ventures.

The sworn testimony by fund manager Michael Lewitt, a former business partner of Jim Biden’s, attests that two companies that facilitated the efforts were part-owned by “members of the Qatari government.”

One company named in the testimony partnered directly with Jim Biden in the multi-year fundraising efforts.

The second company provided financial backing for a series of loans that a hospital chain paid Jim Biden to arrange, according to documents and testimony Lewitt submitted in the course of the federal bankruptcy proceedings.

If substantiated, the alleged arrangements would constitute some of the closest known financial links between a relative of President Joe Biden and a foreign government.

Donald Trump Takes Biggest Lead Ever over Joe Biden in CNN Poll, Third-Party Candidates Expand Trump Lead

Matthew Boyle28 Apr 2024Washington, DC3
4:02

Former President Donald Trump has opened his biggest lead ever captured in the CNN poll of the American electorate, enjoying a six-point advantage over incumbent Democrat President Joe Biden.

Trump, at 49 percent, is six percent ahead of Biden’s 43 percent when the two are polled head-to-head.

When third-party candidates like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Dr. Jill Stein, and Cornel West are added into the field, Trump’s lead over Biden grows to nearly double digits. In that multi-candidate scenario, Trump is at 42 percent, Biden is down at 33 percent, Kennedy is at 16 percent, West at four percent, and Stein at three percent.

That’s a nine percent lead for Trump nationally, an astounding number that if true would signal the former president is on track for an electoral college romp of Biden.

https://twitter.com/IAPolls2022/status/1784562295449792936

The CNN/SSRS poll was conducted from April 18 to April 23, and surveyed 1,212 American adults, including 967 registered voters, and has a margin of error of 3.4 percent for the full sample and 3.8 percent among registered voters. The numbers for the presidential race are from the registered voters sample.

CNN, in its story about the poll, found most Americans look back on Trump’s presidency positively—and look at Biden’s presidency negatively. CNN’s Jennifer Agiesta wrote that “in the coming rematch, opinions about the first term of each man vying for a second four years in the White House now appear to work in Trump’s favor, with most Americans saying that, looking back, Trump’s term as president was a success, while a broad majority says Biden’s has so far been a failure.”

Billioniares do need to pay more. Bezos pays the equivalent of 1% of taxes each year or around there.

That’s because the gains are unrealized.  It’s no more reasonable to tax those than the inflated value of your home.
