For the first time, scientists have created embryos that are a mix of human and monkey cells.
The embryos, described Thursday in the journal Cell, were created in part to try to find new ways to produce organs for people who need transplants, says the international team of scientists who collaborated in the work. But the research raises a variety of concerns.
"My first question is: Why?" says Kirstin Matthews, a fellow for science and technology at Rice University's Baker Institute. "I think the public is going to be concerned, and I am as well, that we're just kind of pushing forward with science without having a proper conversation about what we should or should not do."
Still, the scientists who conducted the research, and some other bioethicists defended the experiment.

Lol! I’ve only seen the first movie in that series.
Off topic, are the others worth watching? Or are they really dated?

I am going to go out on a limb and predict this thread gets locked EARLY.

I'm easily entertained if the story line at least follows its own trail.
I don't remember the others that followed significantly better or worse than the first.
-
This will certainly make it more likely that primate pathogens will jump species to humans - thank you, scientific hubris.

It's child abuse.
Michael Crichton wrote a story about that, the chimp-child was bullied so he climbed tree and threw poop on his attackers.
Maybe science is coming to terms with the existence of Chuck Schumer and Adam Schiff?

Watch the original two with Charleton Heston and Roddy McDowel.
The remakes are ...boring. Tim Burton did not improve on the originals at all. Better technology does not always improve the concept.
The same is true about the originals in the following:
Invasion of the Body Snatchers,
The Day the Earth Stood Still,
The Blob,
Village of the Damned (but read the book for the best effect)
and many others.
But the film Mary Shelley's Frankenstein was very good, very true to the original novel, and too bad it has De Niro in it, and thus on this conservatives "banned and never to be watched again" list.
But, anyway, the third PA movie had Ricardo Montelban, and thus was paritally rescued, just as his role saved the Star Trek movie (the Wrath of Kahn had a real actor in it, very unusual for anything Star Trek). The final two Ape movies, not so good.
When I was 12 or 13 a local movie theater played all five Apes movies on a Sunday, and we saw all of them in order. That was a real ordeal towards the end, let me tell you.
-
Why not? Start small with viruses, and go from there....
(yes, that was sarcasm)

Thanks @Sled Dog
I heard the remake uses the Lincoln Memorial instead of the Statue of Liberty.

What could possibly go wrong? Every time I read a story like this I am reminded of the Ian Malcom (Jeff Goldblum) quote from Jurassic Park: “Scientists are actually preoccupied with accomplishment. So they are focused on whether they can do something. They never stop to ask if they should do something.â€

PLAYING GOD: Human-Animal Hybrid Embryos Created in California Lab
The ethical concerns here are rather obvious.

It may seem like the plot from some sci-fi thriller, but we assure you, it is very, very real.
Science, like most other fields of study, has long required its practitioners to push the envelope. That is the nature of the beast when it comes to innovation, but we must also temper that need for progress with some logic and rationale.
Much like Jeff Goldblum’s character laments in the film Jurassic Park, just because you can do something, doesn’t mean that you should.

'Nature of the Beast', indeed.
-
So I guess that they don't think they can trust those south of the border to keep voting democrat so they are going to breed perfect future democrats in the lab?

I'm waiting for the four-assed monkey.

...and we should ask for God's mercy and blessings on this country why? This is absolutely horrific!

oh, man, Fred. That was bad.

This is part of the gay manifesto. They want to grow children in test tubes, so women aren't needed. Destroy the heterosexuals. They want these children, so they can abuse them, USE them. Much in that manifesto is coming true. Reduce age of child for sexual consent. This is an abomination. Mixing human with animal. They didn't like it when hitler did it. This is no different. ARE THEY ALL...HITLERS? Mengele? Goebels?

@LegalAmerican
Call me a starry-eyed optimist, but I kinda doubt the Lesbians would go along with that one.
They want these children, so they can abuse them, USE them.
You are confusing homosexuals with pedophiles. I am sure there is some "crossover",but not that much.
This is an abomination. Mixing human with animal.
I sure can't argue with THAT one! Just reading about it creeped me out.
They didn't like it when hitler did it.
Say WHAT?
-
Nasty; no good will come of this.
--------------------
But so far, that approach hasn't worked. So Belmonte teamed up with scientists in China and elsewhere to try something different. The researchers injected 25 cells known as induced pluripotent stem cells from humans — commonly called iPS cells — into embryos from macaque monkeys, which are much more closely genetically related to humans than are sheep and pigs.=ARTICLE
