New York AG Rejects Settlement in Trump Civil Suit; May Target Trump Children

New York Attorney General Letitia James has rejected an offer to settle a civil suit against former President Donald Trump’s company, the Trump Organization, and is said to be targeting one of Trump’s children, according to the New York Times.

The New York attorney general’s office has rebuffed an offer from Donald J. Trump’s lawyers to settle a contentious civil investigation into the former president and his family real estate business, setting the stage for a lawsuit that would accuse Mr. Trump of fraud, according to three people with knowledge of the matter.
The attorney general, Letitia James, is also considering suing at least one of Mr. Trump’s adult children, the people said. Ivanka, Eric and Donald Trump Jr., have all been senior executives at Mr. Trump’s company, the Trump Organization.

Ms. James, a Democrat who is running for re-election in November, is focused on whether Mr. Trump fraudulently inflated the value of his assets and has mounted a three-and-a-half-year inquiry that has cemented her as one of the former president’s chief antagonists. Mr. Trump, who has denied all wrongdoing and derided the investigation as a politically motivated witch hunt, has fired back at her, filing an unsuccessful lawsuit to block her inquiry and calling Ms. James, who is Black, a racist.
James, who was elected in 2018 on promises to prosecute Trump, is also pursuing criminal tax charges against the business. Former Trump Organization chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg pleaded guilty to some charges last month. He faces a reduced sentence in exchange for a promise to testify against the Trump Organization — but he would not agree to testify against Trump. The former president is not personally implicated in any of the New York cases, though not for lack of trying.
A recent poll showed the surprising result that Republican challenger Michael Henry leads James in polls for the November election. Another Democrat, the wealthy Levi’s heir and impeachment lawyer Daniel S. Goldman, backed out of the race when James decided to run for reelection rather than running for governor. He ran for Congress instead, and won his primary.

The New York state attorney general filed a sweeping lawsuit Wednesday against former President Donald Trump, three of his adult children and the Trump Organization, alleging they were involved in an expansive fraud lasting over a decade that the former President used to enrich himself.
In the more than 200-page lawsuit, Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, alleges the fraud touched all aspects of the Trump business, including its properties and golf courses. According to the lawsuit, the Trump Organization deceived lenders, insurers and tax authorities by inflating the value of his properties using misleading appraisals.
“These acts of fraud and misrepresentation were similar in nature, were committed by upper management at the Trump Organization as part of a common endeavor for each annual Statement, and were approved at the highest levels of the Trump Organization – including by Mr. Trump himself,” the lawsuit states.
Trump and his children, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump, are named as defendants in the lawsuit. Allen Weisselberg, former CFO for the Trump Organization, and Jeff McConney, another longtime company executive, are also named.
James said she believes state and criminal laws may have been violated and referred the matter to the US attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York and the Internal Revenue Service.
James is seeking $250 million in allegedly ill-gotten funds and to permanently bar Trump and the children named in the lawsuit from serving as the director of a business registered in New York state. She is also seeking to cancel the Trump Organization’s corporate certificate, which, if granted by a judge, could effectively force the company to cease operations in New York state.
Trump previously called James a “renegade prosecutor” who he said is running a “vindictive and self-serving fishing expedition.” The Trump Organization called her previously allegations “baseless” and denied any wrongdoing.
The civil lawsuit comes as Trump is under increasing legal pressure as prosecutors are taking investigative steps that move ever closer to his inner circle.
Trump is facing numerous criminal investigations from federal and state prosecutors involving the accuracy of his company’s financial statements, interference in the 2020 presidential election, and his handling of classified documents after leaving office. Trump has denied any wrongdoing.

Donald Trump and members of his family committed a long-running bank, tax and insurance fraud that was "astounding" in its scope, New York Attorney General Letitia James alleged in a blockbuster and long-awaited lawsuit on Wednesday.
And while the suit is only civil, James is referring the former president and his family to the IRS's criminal division, and to federal prosecutors in Manhattan, for possible violations of tax law.
The suit, which runs to more than 200 pages, alleges that the former president systematically inflated his net worth for purposes of getting better loan terms, while at the same time deflating his worth and the value of his holdings to get more favorable tax treatment. Trump's children Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric are also named as defendants.
"The examples I laid out just barely scratch the surface of the misconduct that we have uncovered," James told a news conference to announce the suit, after running through a litany of claims against the former president. "The pattern of fraud and deception that was used by Mr. Trump and the Trump Organization for their own financial benefit is astounding."
"It was a scheme that by its very nature became more profitable over time," she added.

Another Witch Hunt by a racist Attorney General, Letitia James, who failed in her run for Governor, getting almost zero support from the public, and now is doing poorly against Law & Order A.G. candidate, highly respected Michael Henry. I never thought this case would be brought - until I saw her really bad poll numbers. She is a fraud who campaigned on a “get Trump” platform, despite the fact that the city is one of the crime and murder disasters of the world under her watch!

They will continue to drag Trump in and out of court till he is financially ruined, along with members of his family. I believe Ivanka and Jared will be safe from the witch hunt though. They are trying to make it impossible for him to run in '24, but I believe his supporters will help him to rake in the money need to run.
We'll see.

There is a long history of Trump as a businessman taking advantage of the system (tax and otherwise) to inflate property values, etc. The reporting goes way back years in the WSJ before his presidency. Taking advantage of the system is par for the course with the wealthy. Now he's in the cross-hairs because of his prominence and support. He gets dumped on and other's don't. Hello Soros!? Hello Gates!? Trump and his family are being made an example. More fuel to the fire in the belly of his supporters I say!!

As Twitchy reported, Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin went on a Twitter bender earlier Wednesday when news broke that New York State Attorney General Letitia James was filing a lawsuit against Donald Trump for “engaging in years of financial fraud.” Of note: It’s not a criminal lawsuit, but a civil lawsuit. As long as James has been investigating Trump, she doesn’t have the goods on him to file a criminal lawsuit.
