“Take On Me” by A-ha is one of the 1980s’ most remembered songs, not only for its fast-paced beat but also because of that iconic video, which featured a pencil-sketch animation theme (called rotoscoping) and live action featuring lead singer Morten Harket and his then-girlfriend, actress Bunty Bailey.

I shared an elevator ride with these guys in Tokyo once. Didn't know who they were until we got to the lobby and they were mobbed by Japanese teenyboppers.
-
I'm glad they're releasing this. I managed to hear them play acoustic version before and really like it (I'm not musically astute to know whether this is the same arrangement).
The sequel to Take On Me wasn't nearly as popular...

And the video is a disappointment, after the promising opening! As a Norwegian commenter once said: "Depressing? Yup, Norwegian."

My favorite music video of all time.
Has anyone seen the Family Guy satire?

Yeah, and Bunty Bailey is never at the diner!

I have to say the lead singer has aged well. Some entertainers popular back then, not so much.

Sorry, I liked the original version.

I usually like the originals best, but I like the version probably just as well.

I loved the animations, and the instrumentals. This was early 80's, and not much else on MTV. Dire Straits, Devo, about it. The love story between the girl and the race car driver was hard to beat. Well, there was The Buggles....

Ah, the very first video ever on MTV. Video killed the radio star.
It's on my iPod!
And they played "I'll melt with you" over and over again too. And my radio station played "tainted love " too much as well.

How can you not like The Buggles? Geoff Downes went to Asia, another group I adored, and Trevor Horn became a producer.
80s were the best decade of my life.

@RoosGirl Psst! Video DID kill the radio star. But it's OK.

And through it all....Yes. I actually got to party with a guy from there, and he said Geoff and Trevor were the best he ever knew. Jon Anderson was in a world all his own.
Carl Palmer was in Asia. He's the only one left from ELP. 8888crybaby

This is off topic, but to those of us who are over forty, can you name a song from the last ten years? Or have I become my mother?

I think the only Daft Punk I know was stuff they did more than 10 years ago. Or is there a song called Daft Punk? Oh, wait, I know they did soundtrack work for the Tron movie -- that's within 10 years, right? but were they songs?
I know some names of current artists, but songs? Hmmm.... I guess "Someone Like You" by Adele is within 10 years. And stuff from Florence + The Machine. And I know of some from Mumford and Sons and some other bands, but the names? Call them to mind? Nope.
Yup...I'm old.

Pentatonix did a song with the title Daft Punk. I honestly don't know if it is a cover or not.

Apparently, so do all the middle-aged women the cut to during the song.

Ah...thanks, @RoosGirl ... I found it.
