[link removed . . . PM me if you have a serious interest. Cheers]
It's all cone 10 stoneware with food safe glazes.
My 'signature glaze effect' is a foundation glaze of RGH Shino with Chen Red over that and a Rutile Blue highlights.
I have done some bowls in a Black Mountain White outside and a cobalt blue inside.
The 'deep plates' (with inch or so side-boards) were originally designed to prevent food sliding off in my lap from conventional plates when I eat--as I usually do--in my Laz-Y-Boy.
IIRC, the bean pots are around 12 cups worth in volume.
IF anyone is interested, please copy the pic to here and I'll consider trying to duplicate it. No promises and no timeline, however.

I'll probably leave this up 24-72 hours.

Those are beautiful!
Thanks for saying so.
IF you see a relatively simple piece you'd like one of, I'm willing to gift it to you . . . or at least try to duplicate it . . . just no promises and no timeline.

That's very nice and generous of you but that is too much to ask...you are very talented.

Wow. Those are beautiful.

Thanks for your kind words.
I don't offer if I don't mean it.
I've probably given 700-800 mugs away the last 25-30 years. Those take a lot of time with my carved handles and names on them . . . so I'm more inclined to charge people in town for those.
However, you give to all of us hereon of your time, efforts and resources, it would be an honor to say thinks by sending you a piece you'd truly enjoy and use. I'm not so thrilled when they just collect dust on a shelf.
If a lot of folks hereon requested pieces, I'd likely have to have help with postage . . . but otherwise, I'm quite seriously willing.
Blessings,

Wow. Those are beautiful.
Thanks for your kind words.
I'd be blessed to know which you most enjoyed the looks of.
-
Note:
I probably would not get anything off to any of you before 15 Nov. But I likely . . . likely . . . could before 15 Dec.
Cereal, berry, salad bowls & deep plates or conventional plates are easiest and quickest. Mugs with names take me about an hour and a half and about 15 or more steps . . . I carve the handles to fit fingers so I'd need to know whether one was left or right handed and the height and diameter wanted. If more than 3 or 4 wanted mugs, I might have to start asking for payment because of the time required. And, if more than 2-3 want pieces, I'd likely have to ask for postage.
Otherwise, I'm quite serious about offering such.
One warning:
On the bottoms are my trademark:
FAITH, HOPE, LOVE, JOY; and under LOVE is ALWAYS as in love always. And then around the rest of the center line is ETERNAL VALUES WIN
And on plates, out from that are random Bible verses. So if that's not your thing--tough--I don't do pieces without such on the bottom.

Beautiful work! I particularly like the 'nebula effect' of the blue and red together, a swirl of white looks like a galaxy against that background.

Would you like a deep plate or a cereal bowl like that? Do you have a spouse?
Can you post a pic here from that collection that is most like that to your preference?
There's a fair range that fit your description.
-
Quix,
That is quite impressive work. I play tennis with a local art professor at one of our local universities. He makes pottery as well, and yours rival his for sure. You are very talented. I remember trying to "throw" a pot back in high school and having the clay fly off the wheel...lol.
Like I say.....you are very gifted....and thank you for posting the pictures of your work.
Now I have flashbacks of Demi Moore....lololol.

Thanks much, for your kind words.
So, there's nothing simple you saw that you'd like something similar to as a gift?

I would not take unfair advantage of your generosity. Mrs. Joe (yes there is one!) bakes bread. If you could, she could use a large bowl to mix dough and let the dough rise in (http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e78/DAIXIN/A%20A%20D3%20POTTERY%20PRIVATE/A%20A%20A%20CROPPED%202015%20POTS/IMG_0232_zps4j3rlf2m.jpg) Something like that would be a boon to us all, and would inevitably be passed down (we already have great grandaughters) as a family heirloom. If you would be interested in such an undertaking, let me know, and let me know how much you would need to cover any expenses or charges.

Beautiful pieces of pottery! I live in NC and collect local pieces. Yours are lovely.

Wellllllllllllllll, silly rabbit . . . you have selected the bean pot that is the most favorite piece I've ever made. The pic does not do it justice. That inside glazing turned out rather opalescent. I'm going to try and reproduce it. There's a FREEPER Righteousmomma in NC that has the one pictured.
I don't know that a bowl without a lid would result in that incredible glaze effect because I think the inclusion of the lid intensifying the reduction firing climate was a key part of the result. But I plan to try. And, perhaps I'll be energetic and throw a lid for the bowl anyway. LOL. I used to hate making lids but they aren't really all that bad to make. LOL.
If it gets real involved, I'll likely charge you at least postage. If it's simple enough, maybe just postage. A large bowl would take probably $5-8 worth of clay out of a $10 25lb bag. Will see. I love making large bowls.
I don't recall if any of the pieces in that group had the 'alligator skin' effect with little raised chips or not. That's one thing I like to do with large bowls.
I love folks enjoying using my pieces. So many of them just sit on mantles and in hutches etc.
So, what diameter are we talking about . . . 12" or 14" or what? And say 8-12" deep? Please measure a bowl she prefers using now.
What you see is my favorite, signature glaze treatment but I'm willing to do a solid cobalt blue or a slightly mottled (light brown, tan spots) white outside and cobalt blue inside--I just think they are more boring.
Oh, but for dough, I should make it thicker than my usual. That might take the whole bag. That's OK. But still, that bowl might be 14" diameter and 8-12" deep. Just let me know. Whatever's doable in such regards.
Thanks for the honor of your request. I just love it when folks truly enjoy what I create.

No. I don't. Have been fiercely protective of my privacy against the Jihadi's angry at all the things I've written on the net about Islam. LOL.
I have a friend willing to sell through his Etsy site but I haven't even done that. I mostly sell at the benefit sale for the Hospice and then incidentally through folks who find out about me. But actually, I mostly give stuff away. Silly me, I know.
Thanks for your kind words.
Soooooo computer whiz, what % would you want for setting up and running the website from the far North! LOL. Then I'd have to produce a ton more pots. LOL.

I'd be happy to cover materials costs and shipping, actually, just PM me an address, and I'll send it.
Size: Big is good (Mrs. Joe never made a small batch of anything). 14 inches in diameter would be great, Ideal depth would be roughly 8 inches. She has been using a cake cover as a bowl, 12 inches in diameter, six inches deep, but it is cylindrical with vertical sides, and the dough has a tendency to climb out, if you know what I mean... It isn't fancy, but is the largest thing she has found she can work with so far.
She isn't near as tall as I am, and beyond 8 inches high, reaching over the lip gets more difficult at counter height.
You are the artist. She is a lover of smooth working surfaces, outside textures are up to you, but please, something not inordinately difficult to clean, because it will be used. (We do dishes by hand, no dishwasher.) I'm sure she'd be thrilled.

Sounds workable. I may have a large bowl over at Dad's that would suit. If I do, I'll email you a pic.
Check your PM's shortly for my email.
I don't have to do the alligator chips on the outside. That's just one effect that some folks like and it's a bit fun to do. I just won't put the sodium silicate on the outside cylinder before pushing it out and I won't dry it as much between passes.
Does she have a preference in terms of glaze colors of those I've mentioned or does she like my colorful signature glaze treatment?

I checked. Got it. I'll have to get back to you on the glaze, she has the good sense to be sleeping now...My guess is that she likes the colorful glaze--she did when I showed her the images.

No. I don't. Have been fiercely protective of my privacy against the Jihadi's angry at all the things I've written on the net about Islam. LOL.
That's a good reason not to use your own name or identifying info online... Except for your legit business stuff, of course.
Soooooo computer whiz, what % would you want for setting up and running the website from the far North! LOL. Then I'd have to produce a ton more pots. LOL.
Well, if you want to make money throwing pots, I think you can. But maybe commercializing your work takes the spirit out of it for you - that's for you to determine. But if I were yu, I'd take a tour of similar work, look at what it's selling for, and decide if it is worth chasing mammon :)
I am not currently managing websites, but Dreamhost is pretty unlimited for 200 bucks every two years - That's hard money. As for building and managing it, you could do that yourself - it isn't hard to do, and I can teach you.

No sweat. Was somewhat joking.
I could use Etsy or some such. Can check out your suggestion.
Not sure if it's worth it to me to gear up to produce that much. Once a year for Hospice is one thing. Ongoing is different.
Thanks for your candid input and encouragement.

My favorite is beanpot B. I also really liked pieces in slides 47 and 54. Overall though my favorite is beanpot B. I would love to add it to my pottery collection!

@Quix
My wife likes the style of the one in the pic below. However, she says she would rather have "more blue than red". If interested, can you PM me and tell me how much you would want for that?
Thanks.
Can do . . . Would POSSIBLY be available before CHRISTmas but no guarantee.
If she's mostly a blue person . . . don't need to do the red at all. There are 2-3 blue glaze treatments that I'm willing to do.
About how many cups would she want--volume wise. I think that one was about 12 cups.
I'd probably put quarter sphere handles on any more like that, that I make.
Thanks for the honor of your query.

Thanks. Will try and look up BEANPOT B. IIRC, most of those are already gone. One or two may not be.
I can make another but no promises about before CHRISTmas.
I'll have to try and figure out the numbers of the other pics. I don't know that I see the numbers.
Thanks thanks for your kind words.

#54 is a slightly small pie plate. That may be available and I'd be happy to give it to you.
I'll PM my email to you.

Amazing!
I made some pottery in high school, literally looked like a giant glazed turd.
Not sure what it is about beginning pottery . . . but a surprising amount of it looks similarly.
. . . or coil pots . . . that are absolutely hideous. But then we all have to start somewhere.
My first pot was a large coil pot at NAU in Flagstaff about 1968. The prof said he wanted a tall piece for the student show. So, I made one somewhat conical shaped that was about 2.5'+ tall--a rutile tan type glaze with the top having a rutile blue type running down a few inches. He put it in the show along with a small vase--a kind of Chen blue with white on the top 2/3rds--my first wheel thrown piece. LOL. It is possible to do initial things that don't look like a turd. Not sure why many don't.
I don't know if it's lack of vision; lack of close leading-by-the-hand instruction, the impatient haste of beginners . . . or what. For a psychologist, it's an interesting question.

Wife's birthday is coming up, and these are the colors she really likes. Have forwarded her the thread because I've learned the hard way better to spoil a good suprise than have an unwanted surprise :)
I forget . . . were you the one wanting a bread dough making mixing/kneading bowl?
I've started out to throw 8-12 biggish bowls . . . will let whoever that was choose whatever's left after the Hospice sale . . . or I can duplicate what sells there, most likely. I think blue was the desired glaze?

I just threw one that's now about 11" diameter and 4.5" in depth. I think Soldate clay shrinks about 14% by final firing.
I expect to throw some bigger bowls. The one I threw before that is a larger diameter . . . but the bottom is about 1/8" thick. I'm not sure it's going to survive the process without cracking. Sigh. I tried to not compress it so thin but didn't succeed in avoiding it. And it's now hanging upside down from the bat to let it harden some without falling down around it's ankles from the thin wall. LOL.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, yes . . . you're the one with the blue request. OK.
I hope to throw some more bean pots--probably after the Hospice sale is over. I'll try and throw 10-12 of them and give you some choices about sizes and blue glaze treatments. Would love to have them done for the Hospice sale but time is running out! Doubtful I'll get them done by then! The handles and lid and lid handle just take a lot of extra time.
If anyone still wants the link to the pics . . . ask me and I'll PM it to you. I don't want to leave it on an open thread longer than I did.
-
Do you take custom orders? I'm looking for a four piece (cup, salad, dinner, mug) setting for sixteen with serving pieces (platter, deep bowl, shallow bowl, tray).
-

I do. That big an order would require some pondering before I committed.
I could not likely finish such a large order earlier than 3-4 months.
Have you seen the pics at the link? I'll PM the link to you.
I don't tend to like to make rectangular trays. I guess I could throw a large circular platter and cut it to an oblong shape. LOL.
Look at the "deep plates" . . . I assume you'd want conventional plates. The deep plates I made with 1.2" 'sideboards' because I got tired of food sliding off in my lap as I ate in my Laz-Y-Boy.
Thanks for asking. Have always contemplated such a project but it's quite an undertaking.
I know I can make all the pieces you mentioned . . . thankfully.
I think I made a 4-6 piece place setting for 4 people once, IIRC.
-
Do you take custom orders? I'm looking for a four piece (cup, salad, dinner, mug) setting for sixteen with serving pieces (platter, deep bowl, shallow bowl, tray).
imho, for 16 people . . . would need more serving pieces??? like . . . 2 or more platters . . . 2-3 deep, largish bowls . . . 2-3 medium serving bowls . . . maybe some of the bowls with lids and/or a casserole or 2.
I make a fair number of shallow bowls/deep plates. I can send a pic if there aren't any in that slide show.
Salad plate or salad bowl? I hate small salad plates . . . I need to cut the salad up for my false teeth and I hate scattering it all over the table. LOL. If I'm going to have a salad, I like it in about a 6" diameter bowl about 3-4" or so deep.
-

I think . . . that if I end up inclined to accept your order . . . I'd ask the following of you:
1. Offer your best guess about price for each item that you'd be comfortable with assuming the quality was as seen in the pics.
2. I wouldn't take any $ until the pieces were made. I'd take some portion before shipping and the rest after you received and accepted them.
3. I'd make at least one extra piece of each of the individual person pieces . . . and for 16 people, maybe I'd make 2 extra pieces for cost, say or even free--still thinking about that . . . just 'cause . . . life happens.
4. What State would they be shipped to?
5. I'd like to send you something soonish just so you can see & feel in your hands the kind of work I do. PM me an addy and I'll send you a couple of cereal bowls or some such. Maybe a smallish to medium mug or 2.

An eight sounds thin for kneading, but most of that happens on the counter. We'll see if it survives...

Doodness . . . not that one! LOL.
Probably bread bowls need to be about 1/4" thick at all points--with a robust rounded rim.
If you'll PM me an email, I'll take some pics and email them to you of the 3 I've thrown this evening.
I don't think any of them are suitable for her bread bowl but it would give you an idea of how I do big bowls--mostly. I can do them lots of ways . . . but for some reason, this is how I TEND to do them.
Cheers.

This video on the benefits of plain (evidently unglazed?) earthenware pots is interesting (though the somewhat annoying music might need turned down or off).
Supposedly water stored in them results in a bit of extra testosterone and other benefits.
I've made micacious clay pots (unglazed) that one can put on a burner. They are interesting and different. Evidently coffee in them tastes less bitter.
I have to throw them at the college because I don't want those scraps mixed up with my Soldate 60 scraps. LOL.

Do you take custom orders? I'm looking for a four piece (cup, salad, dinner, mug) setting for sixteen with serving pieces (platter, deep bowl, shallow bowl, tray).
I have some deep plates left over from the Hospice benefit sale personal table.
I want to gift/send you a couple as samples.
You could PM me a suitable addy to send them to.
And, would appreciate knowing if hubby tends to eat a lot at one setting or a medium amount so I can judge which size to send for him. If you want a larger one, too, you can tell me. I don't have a lot of the larger ones left but maybe 2-3. I have a lot of the medium ones left.
Have been thinking, if you still want a 16 place setting of 4 pieces each . . . I could make one or two sets and ship them or pics of such off to you and then you could decide with more . . . finality, say.
