Dr. Anthony Fauci, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) director and medical advisor to Joe Biden, defended controversial “gain-of-function” research in 2012, and said the research was worth the risk of a pandemic.

“In an unlikely but conceivable turn of events, what if that scientist becomes infected with the virus, which leads to an outbreak and ultimately triggers a pandemic?” Fauci wrote in an article in  the American Society for Microbiology in October 2012—which was first reported by The Australian. “Scientists working in this field might say — as indeed I have said — that the benefits of such experiments and the resulting knowledge outweigh the risks.”

Gain-of-function research involves extracting natural virus samples from animals and engineering them to infect humans for the development of therapeutics and vaccines.

Dr. Faucinstein could not prevent others from doing g-o-f research, but, damn! Why fund it in a country already known for poor handling (even if through an intermediary)?!

Here is Markson explaining in Bannon's War Room the 2012 paper of Fauci:

Fauci In 2012: Gain-Of-Function Research Into Bat Viruses Is Worth The Risk Of A Pandemic

Tristan Justice   |   MAY 28, 2021

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Director Anthony Fauci defended “gain-of-function” research in 2012 — wherein scientists extract viruses from the wild and engineer them to infect humans in order to study potential therapeutics including vaccines — as research worth risking a pandemic over.

“In an unlikely but conceivable turn of events, what if that scientist becomes infected with the virus, which leads to an outbreak and ultimately triggers a pandemic?” Fauci wrote in a paper reported on by The Australian. “Scientists working in this field might say — as indeed I have said — that the benefits of such experiments and the resulting knowledge outweigh the risks.”

The revelation of Fauci’s 2012 defense of the research comes as new reports emerge, breathing new life into the lab-leak theory among the political establishment that dismissed the origin hypothesis, which was always credible, as a conspiracy theory. .  .  .

Just checked out Amazon and B & N. It does appear that they are not selling his book, or that they aren't offering it for sale at this point.

Since I should be receiving in a week or so a book I ordered a month ago, I do know that Amazon pre-sells books prior to release.

American higher education has deep ties to EcoHealth Alliance, Wuhan Institute of Virology
Researchers at UNC, UC Davis, Pitt, UGA, and more have worked with Wuhan scientists on coronavirus projects, including at least one involving gain of function research. Dr. Zhengli Shi, head of coronavirus research at the Wuhan lab, hailed one discovery as "this missing link" she had been seeking for a decade.

Several American researchers have worked with the Wuhan Institute of Virology and EcoHealth Alliance on coronavirus-related research, including gain of function research, dating back more than a decade, and emails reveal that several professors were in contact with Dr. Anthony Fauci during the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic.

As the intelligence community commences its investigation into the origins of SARS-CoV-2, a series of scientific papers and studies belie a close relationship between American academia and the Wuhan lab, as well as EcoHealth Alliance, the multinational organization through which the NIH sent $600,000 to study the transmission of coronaviruses.

What follows is a brief timeline of research publications on which university researchers collaborated with partners from the Wuhan Institute of Virology and EcoHealth Alliance.

2007: The CDC’s Emerging Infections Diseases journal publishes a study from researchers at Chinese universities, the EcoHealth Alliance, the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and several universities abroad about how bat coronaviruses evolve. One American researcher, then a doctoral student at the University of Georgia, is listed as a co-author, and the study was partially funded by the NIH. .. Plenty of money, let's spread it around (as long as the Chinese get their share).

If there is going to be gain-of-function research, locate the laboratory on a remote island in the middle of the ocean, like Ascension Island or St Helena Island, not in the middle of a densely populated urban metropolis.

There is no need to perform gain-of-function research.  Mother Nature is already working on it.

The next time some bat virus research scientists want to gather bat feces and urine samples from a cave, light that cave up with napalm.

Here;s the thing though:  to-date, gain-of-function research hasn't provided an iota of benefit, but by now it has most assuredly provided substantial costs.

Fauci's conduct was, and is, tantamount to criminal.
