A co-worker of mine, who lives in south central New Hampshire, once owned what I called a "commie car" - an EV that wasn't a Tesla.

Needless to say, the car's charge wasn't able to last his hilly 50-mile commute in Winter ... the cold, the hills, the heat, the wipers, etc., completely drained the battery before he could reach the office.

Electric vehicles have a niche, but the technology is too immature to eliminate the internal combustion engine to be practical for interrupted (weather, traffic, construction, detour) trips.

Trump’s Jobs Boom Skips Illinois—Thanks to Pritzker’s Tax Hikes
by Thomas Mccullagh
June 26, 2025

Across the country, American factories are reopening. Companies are returning home. Jobs are being created.

Under Donald Trump’s leadership, U.S. manufacturing is seeing a revival. Tariffs on foreign goods, tax incentives for domestic production, and fewer federal regulations have caused a shift. Major corporations are pulling operations out of China and Mexico and bringing them back to American soil.

Kentucky. Alabama. Indiana. Texas. South Carolina. These states are attracting billions of dollars in new manufacturing investments. Thousands of new jobs are being created.

But Illinois is being left out—and Governor JB Pritzker’s tax-heavy policies are a major reason why.

On June 26, 2025, GE Appliances announced it will invest $500 million to move washing machine production from China to Louisville, Kentucky. That move alone will bring 800 new jobs. It’s one of many examples of U.S. manufacturing growth—just not in Illinois.

Volkswagen is expanding its plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. BMW is boosting output in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Honda is relocating hybrid vehicle production to Greensburg, Indiana. Georgia’s Hyundai plant is scaling up to produce 500,000 electric vehicles per year. Texas is gaining a new $85 million server plant from a Taiwanese company. Even California is getting a Novartis pharmaceutical facility.

But Illinois—once the heart of American industry—has seen none of this.

Apology not accepted, as they knew they were doing this all the time.

And they still have that racist ex-president Gay employed pulling down $300-400k in salary

"Recently, a prominent anti-Trump economist admitted what many on the right have been saying from the beginning: Trump’s tariff strategy wasn’t the reckless gamble the media made it out to be. Instead, it was a calculated move designed to protect American workers, revive domestic manufacturing, and put America’s interests first."
=======================================================================================================a==

I spent quite a bit of time yesterday in flame event with an unnamed Briefer about this very issue.  What these Anti-Trump economists and in the case of Briefer X, didn't realize that a lot of what Trump is doing in the area of tariffs straight from Calvin Coolidge's playbook.  Again.  Tariffs aren't the main event....   just one tool in the tool kit to deal with nations who want to take advantage of a country that allowed itself to be screwed by trading partners for decades.   This alone levels the playing field.

Iif you could pull Trump off to the side, I am sure he'd say as the ultimate capitalist, that in the real world there would be no tariffs, no currency manipulation, or other tactics  to "game" the system.

Editorial/Opinion/Blogs / Re: After NYC, the DNC looks DOA

The DNC does not care about quality of life issues.  They are too busy tilting at elite limousine liberal mega-donor windmills.

The Dems don't want affordable housing; they want Government housing.
The Dems dismissed the sticky post-Covid inflation as 'transitory'.
The Dems don't want affordable tuition; they want Federally subsidized higher education.

The Dems have eschewed competitive free-market, private-enterprise capitalism for a Government-run economy and society.

The Dems represent nonsense that does not improve the quality of life for the unwashed masses.

The DNC represents aristocratic interests of the landed gentry; not the interest of their tenant serfs.

LOL. There really was a new rule put in place about 18 months ago for volunteers at Kentucky State Prisons thanks to one of my sons. I'll have to send this to him.

The corollary I can think of is the Soviet Union's propagation of Communism (Marxist-Leninism-Stalinism).  It was a violent revolutionary sedition posing as a poltical theory.

In our secular political society, how do you balance security and a religion with a political ideology?  In the Middle East, politics and religion are the same thing - both Judaism and Islam are experienced through a poltical lens, as well as religious.

Earleir in European history, especially during the Crusades, Catholicism was a poltical force as well as religious.

This is why the Founders wanted the Western Hemisphere to be a 'New World' free of the historical entanglements of the 'Old World'.

The Middle East is an albatross around America's neck.  During the Cold War, America back filled a collapsing British Empire to prevent the Soviet Union from filling the void.

Does America really need, or benefit from, maintaining a protectorate in the Middle East, as the French and British had done after World War I?  They buy protection from our elites, but the average American does not see the benefit.

Thousands of American lives, 20 years' time, and trillions of dollars were wasted to build an American protectorate in Afghanistan that collapsed, and did not have long-term benefit to the American People.

Our Founders knew that elites were more likely to engage in foreign wars of adventure than the citizenry.  This why War can only be Declared by Congress.
