Disney to close Star Wars hotel that opened in Florida last year

By Richard Pollina
May 19, 2023

Disney World will shutter the squad-bay doors on its immersive Star Wars-themed luxury hotel in late September — less than two years after its opening.

The Walt Disney Co. announced Thursday that the “Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser” two-night hotel will embark on its “final voyage” Sept. 28-30.

“We are so proud of all of the Cast Members and Imagineers who brought Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to life,” Disney said. “Thank you to our Guests and fans for making this experience so special.”

The vacation experience based at Orlando’s Walt Disney World debuted in March 2022.

The company did not specify why one of its most “creative projects ever” was closing, but acknowledged it set a “new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment,” the company said in a statement to CNBC.

No doubt those same spineless republicans will be blaming this on DeSantis too:  https://www.gopbriefingroom.com/index.php/topic,500194.0.html

The cost?!  **nononono*
That ain’t really family-friendly.

The average nightly cost per person is $1,209, or $4,809 for two guests.

Well, since the article that references the "spineless republicans" was discussing republicans who were trying to blame DeSantis for making Disney drop this project (a point which is demonstrably false), then that would include Trump as well, since he is one of the leaders of the pack in trying to blame DeSantis for Disney's decision to drop its already stalled (since 2021) office building project.

Think woke isn't a religion? What kind of corporation puts shoving their morality down your throat over profits?

DeSantis - and Florida's elected representatives - are protecting ordinary Floridians from the overreach of a politically hijacked corporation that is acting as if it were a political master, rather than a private business.

Dollars to donuts says that Disney strips the Star Wars theme and reopens with a new more popular theme...Disney has pretty much had Star Wars on life support for years and this is their MO, taking an existing site and re theming it.

My 9yo grandson is a Trekkie...big time.

He wants to stay at the Star Wars resort when/if they go to Disney..I doubt my son knows how much it costs to stay there..lol

But he's out of luck since it will be shut down...

They are destroying every brand they have. They are losing billions upon billions.

Get woke go broke.
Just desserts.

By the looks of this hotel, it could be repurposed as the new state penitentiary.

Think woke isn't a religion? What kind of corporation puts shoving their morality down your throat over profits?

The kind of corporation that has majority stockholders easily blackmailed or extorted.

or...

The kind that would accept a multi-million $$$ gift from the unaccounted for BILLIONS of $$$ from the pandemic stimuli?

...and they are shoving their LGBTQRSTUVWXYZ and wokeism down people's throats. Walt Disney must be turning over in his grave.

The political hijacking of company is a concern of the sharedholders and the Board of Directors, not the Government.

It is most definitely the concern of government when that company begins to use its heft and weight to impose a political agenda on local communities.

It's not that easy. Research 'stakeholder corporatism', and you will find that the instruments of corporate lending are doing the work of the liberal political sphere.

The stockholders have nothing to do with it.

Blame the Supreme Court - they ruled that corporations are people, too.

That hotel was a planned tie-in for the "Last Jedi" trilogy and an "experience" for the "next generation" of Star Wars fans whom the mouse expected to flock to "Rey's story," as well as "Finn's" and "Kylo's," after clearing out all the old characters in very pathetic ways.  The various new shows on Disney's streaming service were expected to help drive business there too.

That never happened, due to the extremely poor writing and shabby treatment of the overall franchise legacy, and plus the woke crowd mostly doesn't have the $$$$ to spend at such expensive places.

So close it must!

All hope is not lost, they could repurpose it as a migrant hotel and receive billions from the feds.

Has nothing to do with the Supreme Court; please stop trying to deflect.

Disney could be run through a limited partnership, and the effect - and deserved consequences - would be the same.

Disney stock is tanking again.  The share price is about where it was in 2014, when the Dow was at 17k.

Oh they're in BIG trouble... And it ain't much because of this... DeSantis and Reedy Creek are a sideshow... Their streaming service is a big fat zero, they've royally pissed off Marvel fans, their woke ass movies make no profit... Straight bombs for years... And they are fixin to lay off 7000 employees.

So yeah... they have trouble on every side.
And that's a good thing. They'll go broke with or without the Reedy Creek thing.

I assume you are referencing Citizens United v. FEC here.  There are two problems with that argument.  First, no one is denying Disney's right to free speech.  No one.  And secondly, the 'State of Florida' is not 'Congress'.  Might want to read that Amendment again.
