Title: In Abject Honor of the Victims of TINENANMEN 4 JUN 1989--I was in-country.
Post by: Quix on June 04, 2019, 10:16:38 am

I was in-country at the time--thankfully not in Beijing.

I know from first hand experience what an outrageously dangerous time it was.

I know that civil war was 'at the door.'

Students who sought my advice suffered horribly from speaking out against government tyranny--even though I cautioned that they should do honorable things ONLY if they seriously counted the cost and felt the supremely high costs were worth it.

And we both knew that THEY KNEW TO PAINFUL DEPTHS far better than I what those costs could include--and to a shocking degree came to be horribly painful for an extended time--as in torture--and the new believer(s) did NOT recant--which made the punishment worse and longer.

The following videos are among the best I've seen about that momentous period & dramatic set of events.

Please pray for Christians in China currently undergoing yet another wave of abuse, punishment for their faith, imprisonment etc.

Please keep in mind that . . .

They came for the trade unionist
But I kept silent because I was not a trade unionist . . . etc.

Published on Jun 5, 2017

In 1989, hundreds of thousands of people flooded onto the streets of Beijing and into Tiananmen Square demanding democracy, freedom of speech and an end to corruption.

After a seven week standoff, the government called in the troops and a bloody battle ensued.

The number of deaths is not known.  {Soviet sources say 100,000 deaths.}

 The Chinese Red Cross initially issued a statement saying that 2,600 people had been killed but rapidly retracted that. The Chinese government claimed that 241 people died, including 23 soldiers.

Twenty years on, Al Jazeera speaks to some of those who took part in the world's largest and most influential pro-democracy movement.

Through their personal stories and the stories of others who witnessed this historic movement, It happened in Tiananmen Square recreates an era when a new generation of Chinese wanted to finally break from the shackles of Mao's Cultural Revolution.

It happened in Tiananmen Square aired from Sunday, May 31, 2009.
