Rubio on White House drama: "People got what they voted for"

By/ Emily Tillett/ CBS News/ May 21, 2017, 12:21 PM

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, said Sunday that "people got what they voted for" with the Trump presidency.

"I don't understand why people are that shocked," Rubio said on CBS News' "Face the Nation," following a tumultuous period for the Trump White House. "This president ran a very unconventional campaign. I was there for a big part of it at the beginning alongside being one of his competitors. And that's what the American people voted for. And in essence, you know, this White House is not much different from the campaign."

Rubio's comments come after two weeks of White House blunders for the Trump administration, leaving many in Congress questioning the future of the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Rubio called much of the drama coming out of the White House "unique" and "different than anything we've confronted."

"We'll have to deal with these issues. These issues come up, these questions every single day. And I do think the White House would benefit from some systems in place that perhaps avoid some of the unnecessary friction points that come up on a daily basis. But this is also the political environment we now live in, too," Rubio said.

Marco who humiliated himself during the debates is taking pot shots?  Let me tell you something Marco ... I was ticked when you jumped back into the race at the last minute after you stated you were leaving politics.  We had a perfectly good conservative running to take your spot ... but obviously "they" nudged him out and he decided not to run against you as you were the incumbent. Marco, you're a whinny little whimp who sold your soul to the Gang of Eight.  As far as I'm concerned you qualify for Hillary's bag of deplorables.

And again we have someone who responds, not by making an argument for Trump, but by attacking the messenger.  **nononono*

Yes, Senator Rubio, we did get what we voted for. I don't know if Trump voters thought Trump's propensity for drama, chaos and flip-flopping would disappear after he became president (after all, he did tell us he could be presidential, although many of us would like to have seen it before he became the nominee), or if they also thrive on that kind of drama. His instability and unpredictability was so apparent to many on the right that he might as well have been bright orange. Oh, wait...

Didn't little Marco say he was retiring from politics? Why am I having to hear from him?

Life's tough. We have to hear from a lot of people with whom we take issue. But here's an idea: turn off your TV. Another idea: don't click on threads with Rubio in the title. Problem solved.

The Florida Republicans wanted him back. Heck, judging by the fact that he won re-election, the Florida people wanted him back, and his margin of victory was six percentage points wider than Trump's in the state.

Little Marco needs to shut his yap and learn how to remove his nose from between McCain's cheeks.

He really didn't say anything different from what a lot of Trump supporters here have admitted, even Ted Cruz said something similar but in a nicer way. The only issue I have is that many, if not most, who pulled the lever for Trump were voting more anti-Hillary than pro-Trump.

I find it very disturbing that both Sen. Cruz and Rubio couldn't keep their yaps shut while Trump is out of the country doing the country's business.  I expect it from the opposition party but your own party should be supporting you right now.  Shows a lack of class.

As a Floridian I did NOT want Marco, I voted against Murphy.  As I have stated previously, there were a couple of conservatives who were going to give up their house seats to run against the DEMS and when little Marco decided he didn't want to retire, they stepped aside!  Little Marco has the RINO machine behind him.  :smokin:

I understand. I have friends who voted for him out of desperation to avoid a Hillary Clinton presidency. They were discomforted by the options. It's the ones who supported him from the beginning I will always be confused by. They are always willing to overlook or make excuses for Trump's shortcomings and shifting positions but insist that any other politician with an R behind their name walk the straight and narrow. They've even taken up Trump's venomous manner of speaking -- name-calling, put-downs, etc. I got scared spitless by fellow Americans when Obama got re-elected. I became even more so when I discovered that the right had their own segment of Americans who would enthusiastically elect such an unfit individual to lead our country.

Little Marco is merely stating the obvious.  Anyone who tries to put a positive spin the past four months looks as silly as Trump's paid staff.  Marco probably wants to keep some distance, so he can maintain some credibility if Trump continues his downward spiral.

I don't recall stating that Trump's behavior during the campaign was acceptable; in fact I have previously stated on several occasions quite the opposite.  For the record (again) I feel that Trump made a mockery of the electoral system and his actions and shenanigans at times were downright shameful; not becoming of a presidential candidate at all. Yes, little Marco stooped to his level.

I contributed to him when his name recognition was in the single digits.  He was a viable alternative to Crist.  He been a bit of a disappointment, but then most of them are.  I'd like to get a better conservative in his place, but not as much as I'd like to replace Nelson (and again, not with Crist).

Sorry, but Rubio said the truth. This IS what America elected. A dysfunctional mess. What do you expect Marco to say? That when Trump passes gas it is all roses?

Little Marco messed up royally with his gang of eight mess, and he never owned up to it. He basically denied and lied to conceal it in the debates.  But his voting record really wasn't too bad (Liberty rating of 74%) which is far better than most in congress. I could of held my nose and voted for him over the Hilldabeast. Out of 17 represenative with an "R" beside their name in Florida, he comes in 5th most conservative. Basically not a RINO but just a few pegs above it. We knew where he stood on most issues except when push came to shove on illegal immigration.

He plays it far to safe for me to really say he stands out from the crowd in Washington.

Don't feign surprise.  Way back when Spy Magazine called Trump a 'short fingered vulgarian,' his complaint centered around his hand size.  He never argued the other point.

Allow me to clarify @driftdiver's answer for everyone.

Translation: 'Cuz we don't like him!

Explanation: If we don't like someone, they will never be able to utter a word of truth. This is why the only tool we have is to diss the messenger. Our technique gets the whole thread discussing the author or messenger and diverts attention away from whatever negative truths might be found in the news story. It works quite well, don't you think?  :tongue2:

BTW, this doesn't pertain just to @driftdiver's post. It's how to read all those replies that can only take the source to task as opposed to the actual content of what they say.

Oh cmon you dont get off that easy.  You've put yourself up on that marble pedastle proclaiming how you are rock solid on your belief and will not compromise.  How all other lesser humans are unworthy.

Now we find out that you will compromise if the subject says something negative about Trump.

Rubio had promise, but he made that deal.  He didn't learn then as he came back to immigration again and again.

He campaigns as a staunch conservative.  We didn't get what we voted for.

Please explain to me and the entire board how it is I am compromising my principles by agreeing with a statement that someone says that is truthful - even if I am not that enamored with the person?

If Rubio says "The sky is blue" should we automatically discount that statement and declare it a lie because he was a nefarious member of the Gang of 8??

Apparently you do.

Care to talk a little bit more about marble pedestals? Methinks you have a bit more experience being perched atop them than you will admit.

They got what they were warned they were voting for, but they didn't believe the warning.

They knew, or must have known, what they were voting for given how often they were told about it, so now they are responsible for what they voted for.  Wishful thinking in the face of the facts doesn't excuse one.
