NY state lawmakers to introduce bill to get Trump's state tax returns
By Zack Budryk - 04/08/19 09:02 AM EDT

Democratic lawmakers in New York’s state legislature are set to introduce a bill allowing for the release of President Trump’s state tax returns, according to the New York Times.

The bill, slated to be introduced this week, would allow the commissioner of the state New York Department of Taxation and Finance to release any state return requested by three U.S. congressional committee’s leaders for a “specific and legitimate legislative purpose,” according to the Times.

Sen. Brad Hoylman (D), who is sponsoring the bill, called it “a safety valve for any attempt by the White House to block the Congress from doing this at the federal level,” telling the Times “we’re creating a parallel track.”

New York state laws currently prohibit the release of most private tax information. Under the bill, these laws would be amended, covering filings such as personal income taxes, real estate transfer taxes and corporation taxes, according to the Times.

Taxpayer privacy?   To hell with that!

I hope Trump vigorously opposes this as a matter of principle.   Trump's fight is our fight.  What these tin-pot mafioso are prepared to do to Trump they could do to any one of us.

Is passing a law specifically for the purpose of politically smearing a citizen a legitimate legislative purpose?   Only to these jackals.

This, the electoral college, all of this is basically useless.  I'm sure many more cases can be mentioned.

Isn't this a bill of attainder?

Isn't this a bill of attainder?

Yes, it is a bill of attainder.  In addition, it is 'ex post facto' in that there was no legal mandate for a four-year President to release his tax returns when Trump took office.  In other words, anyone elected President should expect the same rules put in place at the beginning of his/her term to remain in effect throughout that term.  It is no different from Congressmen keeping the same pay for the duration of their term no matter how big a pay raise they happened to vote themselves during that term.

Of course this is the State of New York doing this, so they are pretty much out of their jurisdiction when it comes to federal taxes.  But hey, if they want to arbitrarily make public his state tax returns, I am sure that would have a staunch effect in encouraging current high-dollar residents to relocate to Jacksonville.
