Hey, Donald. It's a shame Ted Cruz spent the last two weeks trashing Republicans instead of working with them to do something that might actually succeed.

Harry Reid says Ted Cruz isn't doing a real filibuster
By JOEL GEHRKE | SEPTEMBER 24, 2013 AT 3:13 PM
Senate Majority Harry Reid, D-Nev., told reporters that Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who began speaking without interruption on the Senate floor Tuesday in opposition to funding Obamacare, isn't engaged in a real filibuster.
"There's no filibuster going on now," Reid said Tuesday. "People can come and talk, but they can't do anything to change when we vote." The vote is scheduled for Wednesday.
Cruz took the floor today, explaining that he "intended to speak out in defense of defunding Obamacare until I can no longer stand."
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., told reporters he would not object to having the cloture vote before tomorrow -- Reid would like to have it as soon as possible, to leave more time before the budget deadline to respond to any legislation the House passes -- but that can't happen if Cruz holds the floor today.

"If Obamacare is so wonderful, why is it that its loudest advocates don't want to be subject to it," Cruz said, in reference to legislators who want congressional staff exempted from Obamacare.
He also faulted his Republican colleagues who opposed the push to defund the health care law through the continuing resolution by alluding to "The Little Engine That Could." "The message would be simple — that little engine can't," Cruz said.

Repealing Obamacare...The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act – Obamacare – was never really about healthcare, though its impact upon the nation’s health is disastrous...Congressional Republicans are committed to its repeal

Ted Cruz is doing two things in this effort! He is following through on his pledge to oppose Obamacare in every way open to him and, more importantly in my view, he is exposing the RINO Ba$#%@#$# who need to GO!
Good on him for both!
Hell, he is exposing all of the government. Did you catch earlier when he described illegal extortion and how, when the Senate does it (and he was specific) they can get away with it? He is calling them out. I hope a lot of people are watching this.

Like it or not, this will be an historic speech in his rise to the top of the Republican Party. Because regardless of the outcome here, he will certainly have his "I told you so!" moment!
Very powerful. It worked wonders for Rand Paul & the Drones filibuster. Didn't surprise me that he'd want some face time here too. They are jockeying for Iowa.
It's like we're watching Dancing with the Stars...Paul vs. Cruz.

THAT is virtually the only reason Cruz is doing this. He wants the recognition and to be anointed a "leading contender" for president in 2016. His resume is thinner than Obama's was at this point in his career.

We have a changing of the guard at the GOPe. I knew this was going to get traction when the RNC jumped in immediately on this today.. with Paul they waited till late in the evening... not this time, they sent out mass email mailings in support of Cruz almost as soon as he started talking. People like McCain, Graham, etc., are flailing because they see what they considered their leadership roles in the GOP slipping from their war mongering hands.

Tell that to Winston Churchill, who lost and lost and lost for a decade and still in the Wilderness he would not stay quiet. He was reviled, particularly after Munich. Yet it was he to whom Chamberlain had to turn after Poland, and then it was he to whom the nation turned after Norway...he was the one summoned by the King to lead. Because he was the only consistent voice throughout...through all of his many defeats.
Exclusive–Source: McConnell, Cornyn Whipping Votes Against Ted Cruz
A source in Congress tells Breitbart News that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn are using their leadership positions to pressure other Republicans to oppose Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in his campaign to defund Obamacare.
"Right now in the Senate, Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn are actively whipping Senators to shut down debate on the House continuing resolution so that Harry Reid can gut it with just 51 votes,” a senior congressional staffer with intimate knowledge of the situation said in an email to Breitbart News. “Unbelievably, they actually are leading the fight to fully fund Obamacare.”
McConnell and Cornyn stated earlier Monday that they oppose a possible filibuster from Cruz to keep Reid from adding language funding the Affordable Care Act to the continuing resolution passed by the House of Representatives...
Instead of helping Cruz with their power as Senate GOP leaders, McConnell and Cornyn are working against him, this senior staffer said. But in the end, they will try to make it appear as though they do not support funding Obamacare by voting against Reid’s amendment after allowing Reid to implement it. “Once it's a 51-vote threshold, both McConnell and Cornyn will hide behind a 'no' vote on Reid's amendment—so they will have yet another show vote,” the staffer said.
“To be clear, nobody is fighting harder to make sure Obamacare is funded than Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn,” the senior staffer added.
Well, now we know what username John McCain uses.
You really don't know anything about Ted Cruz do you? At this point in Obama's career, he had on his resume State Senator (skipping meetings and voting present), worked at Harvard Law Review (taught a couple of classes a year) and Community Organizer.
Cruz's resume however....
Solicitor General of Texas from 2003 - May 2008, Cruz was the first Hispanic Solicitor General in Texas, the youngest Solicitor General in the entire country, and had the longest tenure in Texas history.
Partner at the law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, where he led the firm’s U.S. Supreme Court and national appellate litigation practice.
Cruz has authored 80+ SCOTUS briefs and presented 40+ oral arguments before The Court
Cruz served as a law clerk to Chief Justice William Rehnquist. Cruz was the first Hispanic ever to clerk for a Chief Justice of the United States
Described as a 'superb' constitutional lawyer, the man's considerable skills and laser-like focus were on display for all last week when he took oily reptile Eric Holder by the neck and made him answer the frickin question.
In the landmark case of District of Columbia v. Heller, Cruz assembled a coalition of 31 states in defense of the principle that the 2nd Amendment guarantees an individual right to keep and bear arms.
Cruz presented oral argument for the amici states in the companion case to Heller before the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
In addition to his victory in Heller, Cruz has successfully defended the Ten Commandments monument on the Texas State Capitol grounds, the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools and the majority of the 2003 Texas redistricting plan. Cruz also successfully defended, in Medellin v. Texas, the State of Texas against an attempt by the International Court of Justice to re-open the criminal convictions of 51 murderers on death row throughout the United States.
Director of the Office of Policy Planning at the Federal Trade Commission
Domestic Policy Advisor to U.S. President George W. Bush on the 2000 Bush-Cheney campaign.
Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, where he taught U.S. Supreme Court litigation

On November 14, 2012, Cruz was appointed vice-chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. He is now spearheading efforts in the Senate to have Obamacare repealed root-and-branch...
-----------------------
That's about as thin as Honey Boo Boo's mom.
It's not in motion, Lando. The outcome is foreordained. Cruz seems to champion causes he knows he can't win in order to convince his followers of his principle. He did NOTHING to advance his cause with the House Republicans by attempting to shame them into a vote, admitting he's going to lose in the Senate, then turning right around and DEMANDING that the House vote to fund each government department singly.
He backed himself into a corner, so now he has to fight like hell (or at least LOOK like he is fighting like hell) in order to avoid looking like a demagogue.
So now Cruz is Churchill. Are you friggin' serious?
Winston Churchill actually fought in a war, and didn't begin to campaign for Prime Minister 15 minutes after he came into public life.
The notion that the nation is going to turn to an arrogant self-promoter like Cruz when in trouble is laughable.
Cruz and Obama share one trait: narcissism.
THAT is virtually the only reason Cruz is doing this. He wants the recognition and to be anointed a "leading contender" for president in 2016. His resume is thinner than Obama's was at this point in his career.
I am just cynical enough to believe that this is a personal, political calculation for Senator Cruz. But, he is engaged at this moment. Intents and purposes scarcely matter at this moment.
Yada, yada, yada. Cruz cut his elective teeth on the Senate and, three months into the office, set his sights on the presidency. He may play well in Texas but he's burning bridges right and left with his arrogance and abrasive personality.
The point wasn't that Cruz was a Churchill, the point was that you very much can advance a cause by losing with principle and by being consistent in your voice. Ronald Reagan did that in 1976. And didn't you above compare Cruz to Custer? He's as much a Churchill as he is a Custer.
Now Cruz is Reagan. You're hellbent to put Cruz into the pantheon of great men when all he's done so far is embarrassedhimself.me.
First, Cruz isn't abrasive. He is a pretty likable guy. The only people he is pissing off are old RINOs like McCain because he is challenging them. Among his constituents, he is very popular.
Second, Cruz has never said he is running for President. Others like to say he is to discount what he is doing as having an ulterior motive. He actually said back in July he is not running.

Well, I don't care what Cruz's motives are..he is saying and doing something...saying what all of us feel..Yes myst, he is.
He's been to Iowa three times. Why the hell else, unless you're from Iowa, would a Senator go to Iowa?
I've been to Iowa several times in the past year and I'm not running for President. Seriously though, he is the vice-chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. It is part of his job. At that, he has been to most States with Republican Senators. In Iowa's case, he was there with Charles Grassley. Cruz and Grassley have been working closely on bills to protect the 2nd Amendment. http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/294499-sens-grassley-and-cruz-present-alternative-gun-bill So yea, he would go there if he was working with the Senator from Iowa.
Well, I don't care what Cruz's motives are..he is saying and doing something...saying what all of us feel..
And once again you intentionally miss the point...it is not that Cruz is a Reagan it is that you can advance a cause by losing with principle and a consistent voice. History is replete with examples in many fields. I will not burden you with any more examples that you can twist in your personal anger at this particular Republican Senator.

@SenRandPaul @SenTedCruz #Obamacare software requirements are putting small health providers out of business $30K required software.
The government and those empowering them are as bad as a mafia shakedown.
Exactly what this is. Some will get rich because they are designing and selling the software and they don't care if the nation goes to hell in a handbasket as long as they get their green.

So a health industry software provider should forego developing software as a political statement?

Ted Cruz reminds me a little bit of Reagan in this sense. Reagan was despised when he challenged the sitting president, Gerald Ford for the nomination in 1976, despised. But he did lay the foundation to win the election in 1980. Every Republican loves Reagan, but he wasn’t loved at the time. He was called extreme by fellow Republicans

You don't work in the government acquisition business do you? It has nothing to do with the 'best' proposal any longer. It is who has the right lobbyists and fills out the right demographic boxes in GSA form SF1449.

Chris Matthews Loses It Over Ted Cruz’s Anti-Obamacare Senate Speech: ‘He Is a Problem For Our Republic’
Sep. 24, 2013 11:30pm Jason Howerton
MSNBC’s Chris Matthews on Tuesday ripped Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) over his hours-long anti-Obamacare speech on the Senate floor, part of a gutsy attempt to prevent Democrats from restoring the funds to the health care law that the House voted to remove.
Chris Matthews Loses It Over Ted Cruzs Anti Obamacare Senate Speech: He Is a Problem For Our Republic
Matthews said Cruz is not a “legislator” or trying to “change government the way its formulated and carried out.”
“He is a problem for our Republic,” the host later declared.
Matthews also went after Cruz for questioning Chuck Hagel’s foreign ties in a “Joe McCarthy fashion” during his confirmation hearing.
“He has contempt for the American political system. He is not a member of any political party that I can tell,” he said. “His behavior has been totally and utterly destructive.”
Americans have not learned a “single thing about Obamacare” because of Ted Cruz, he added. “He doesn’t teach, he is a demagogue.”
After listening to Matthews and his panel fume about Cruz and his “antics,” it’s pretty clear the Texas Republican has struck a nerve.

Cornyn Praises Cruz, but Disagrees on Obamacare Tactics
As Ted Cruz continued to hold the Senate floor, his senior GOP colleague from Texas was calling in to local radio stations expressing general support for the effort while noting a significant tactical disagreement.
“Ted’s been a great addition to the United States Senate,” Sen. John Cornyn said on KTSA. “He and I were dove hunting in Hondo this weekend together and we both agree that we need to defund and delay and defeat Obamacare to protect the American people.”
But Cornyn, the Republican whip, is in the camp along with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., that plans to support limiting debate on the underlying House-passed continuing resolution, since that measure itself would block funding for the 2010 health care law that Cruz and other senators have spent all night speaking against on the Senate floor.
“I can’t see voting against that bill, which is what we’ve been asking for — for the last six months,” Cornyn said.
