J.D. Power has released its Initial Quality Study for 2018. The annually conducted study examines problems experienced by original vehicle owners during the first 90 days of ownership, J.D. Power says. The ‘initial quality’ is determined by recording the number of problems a certain model experiences per 100 vehicles (PP100). The lower score, the higher the vehicle’s initial quality is.
While not an indicator of long-term reliability, a vehicle’s initial quality is a good measure of how many small issues and problems it may experience over its lifetime. It’s worth noting that J.D. Power’s study takes into account tech-related issues, which account for many of the vehicle’s problems in the first 90 days of ownership. Problems related to infotainment systems were down in frequency compared to last year, although active safety systems, which are becoming increasingly popular in new vehicles, still proved to be a bit finicky on many new vehicles.

I've owned/own many Rovers. Some are great, some are shit. Whatever you do never ever ever buy a Disco II. LR2/LR3/LR4 are pretty damn good.

I don't think they've ever had a good reputation for reliability.
That said, J. D. Power scores everything from the engine to the radio. Petty problems are annoyances while losing the transmission will leave me stranded.

JD Powers charges to have their name used by companies who get their award. Couple that with the fact that these issues they cite are in the first 90 days of ownership and the whole thing is about as worthless as Motor Trend Car of the Year, which is openly purchased by the highest bidder.

It was a Korean idea that sounded good but they failed at the execution. You can pick them up for a song. But why would you.

Hubris, arrogance and serial incompetence have defined the Hyundai modus operandi for so long that I’ve lost track. They operate in this vacuous netherworld of two steps forward and five back, and yet they insist on singing the “we got it goin’ on†song to themselves in a aria that is relentlessly off-key and stale. That Hyundai operatives have blown the launch and now re-launch of the Genesis brand was surprising only in its scope and its rapid descent into mediocrity.
I am reminded of those ominous words of narration by Joe Pesci’s character – Nicky Santoro – in “Casino.†I’m paraphrasing him here, but I can imagine Hyundai operatives sitting around a conference room table right now saying, reluctantly: “We bleep it all up.â€

Correct. There appears to be more than just one model for Genesis.
As I understand it, Genesis is to be to Hyundai, as Lexus is to Toyota, Infiniti is to Nissan, and Acura is to Honda.
Remember Edsels, Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, Mercuries,

Where is Honda??

OK, I actually drove a Genesis G90. Exterior is bland, but it's a nice car for old people (i.e. people who can afford nice things). What's the problem with this company? Bad marketing?
