(NewsNation) — The Israeli military on Saturday said Iran has launched dozens of drones in an attack, which will take several hours to reach Israel.
Israeli Army spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said Israel is prepared.
Israel has been on heightened alert since an airstrike last week killed two Iranian generals in Syria.
Iran accused Israel of being behind the attack and vowed revenge.
Israel has not yet commented on that attack.

(NewsNation) — Air raid sirens have sounded in Jerusalem and many other Israeli cities and towns as drones, launched from Iran hours ago, have entered Israeli airspace.
And U.S. forces have shot down some of those drones, according to the Defense Department.
“In accordance with our ironclad commitment to Israel’s security, U.S. forces in the region continue to shoot down Iranian-launched drones targeting Israel,” a U.S. military official tells NewsNation.
“Our forces remain postured to provide additional defensive support and to protect U.S. forces operating in the region,” the official said.
What do we know so far?
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps said it had launched dozens of drones and missiles at Israel.
Iran has vowed retaliation for what it called an Israeli strike on its Damascus consulate on April 1 that killed seven Revolutionary Guards officers.
The Iranian mission to the United Nations has said Iran now 'deemed the matter concluded'.
Israel's military said more than 100 drones would take hours to reach their targets.
U.S. President Joe Biden has returned to Washington and has met with his national security team.
U.S. and British warplanes were involved in shooting down some Israel-bound drones over the Iraq-Syria border area, Channel 12 reported.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has convened the war cabinet at a military headquarters in Tel Aviv, his office said.
The European Union, Britain, France, Mexico, Czechia, Denmark and the Netherlands have all condemned Iran's attack.

IRAN ATTACKS ISRAEL DIRECTLY
Over 200 explosive laden drones and ballistic missiles have been fired at Israel by Iran.
As this is being written, explosions are ringing out across the nation of Israel with warning sirens sending hundreds of thousands scrambling into bomb shelters.
This massive unprecedented attack was launched directly from Iran. The targets in Israel, and whether they’re military or civilian, are largely unknown at this point.
The first reported casualty was a 10-year-old Bedouin Israeli girl who was critically injured with a catastrophic head wound by falling shrapnel from a rocket intercept over eastern Israel near the Dead Sea. She was ventilated by MAGEN DAVID ADOM paramedics, provided other lifesaving interventions, and evacuated to the hospital.
MAGEN DAVID ADOM, Israel’s emergency services system, is on its highest level of alert. MDA has been in constant coordination with the Israel Defense Forces this evening and has mobilized its entire fleet of about 1,500 ambulances and more than 33,000 EMTs and paramedics in anticipation of casualties. ...

Catching up now after Shabbat. Obviously missed a lot. Here are my quick takeaways:
1) Iran’s attack against Israel — 200+ drones, cruise and ballistic missiles — more aggressive and pervasive than expected.
2) Israel’s response so far has been magnificent — intercepting 99% of the incoming.
3) Lots of help provided by USA, UK, France and even Jordan. We are grateful.
4) Iran literally attacked the Al Aqsa Mosque. Had Israel not intercepted the missile, 3rd holiest site in Islam destroyed.
5) This is the time for Israel, the West and the moderate Sunni nations to unite against this evil, terrorist nation.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry celebrated the country's assault against Israel on Sunday, declaring the operation to be "powerful" and "victorious."
Iran launched some 300 drones and missiles from its own territory toward Israel, though vast majority were intercepted by air defenses. The Iranian regime shared a message from President Ibrahim Raisi.
“Raisi sends a message following historic, powerful, victorious operation against [the] Zionist regime,” the foreign ministry wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
"Iran's armed forces taught a lesson to the Zionist enemy," Raisi said. "Any new adventure will be responded with a heavier and regrettable response."
Israel claims it and its allies intercepted 99% of Iran's drones and missiles during Saturday's attack.
The Israeli military reacted by sending fighter jets to strike multiple Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, including a major weapons manufacturing site.
Israel has yet to announce large-scale retaliation for Iran's attack, however. Its decision could lead to a regional war.
Iran celebrates 'victorious' attack on Israel, vows 'heavier' response if Israel retaliates
“I don’t think they had a strategy,” the senior administration official said. “The Israelis don’t always make the best strategic decisions.”

Which kinda tracks with this whole attack being a "Kabuki" theater act to save face, knowing that the U.S. and Israel would be tipped off and would likely take out most or all of the drones and missiles. I mean, why would you telegraph such an attack three days before the event to neighboring countries (like Saudia Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Jordan) if you actually wanted it to succeed.
I dunno...maybe I've just read too many Tom Clancy and Larry Bond novels over the years.
The whole thing just feels like a face-saving Kabuki show.
Better to make the cost of launching the drones in the first place much higher in other ways. Something Biden has no willingness to do.

Iran informed Turkey in advance of its planned operation against Israel, a Turkish diplomatic source told Reuters on Sunday, adding that Washington had conveyed to Tehran via Ankara that any action it took had to be "within certain limits."
Turkey, which has denounced Israel for its campaign on Gaza, said earlier on Sunday that it did not want a further escalation of tensions in the region.
The Turkish source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had spoken to both his US and Iranian counterparts in the past week to discuss the planned Iranian operation, adding Ankara had been made aware of possible developments.
Naftali Bennett נפתלי בנט
@naftalibennett
Some points regarding the overnight Iranian missile attack on Israel:
1. Contrary to what pundits are saying, this wasn’t designed merely as “bells and whistles” with no damage.
When you shoot 350 flying objects timed to hit Israel at the same moment,
when you use three fundamentally different weapon types—cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and UAVs,
you’re looking to penetrate Israel’s defenses and kill Israelis.
2. The US administration is telling us: “This is a victory, you’ve already won by thwarting the missiles.
No need for any further action.”
No, it’s NOT a victory.
Yes, it’s a remarkable success of Israel’s air defense systems, but it’s not a victory.
When a bully tries to hit you 350 times and only succeeds seven time, you’ve NOT won.
You don’t win wars just by intercepting your enemy’s hits, nor do you deter it.
Your enemy will just try harder with more and better weapons and methods next time.
How DO you deter?
By exacting a deeply painful price.
3. It’s incorrect to say “nobody got hurt”.
There’s a 7 year-old Israeli-Arab girl called Amina Elhasuny fighting for her life.
That’s who coward Khamenei hit.
4. The Islamic Republic of Iran made a big mistake.
For the past 30 years it’s been wreaking havoc on the region—through its proxies.
A terror-octopus whose head is Tehran, and its tentacles are in Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Gaza.
How convenient.
The Mullahs send others to conduct horrendous terror attacks, and die for them.
Other people’s blood.
Israel’s strategic mistake for the past 30 years was to play along this strategy.
We always fought the Octopus’ arms, but hardly exacted a price from its Iranian head.
This should change now:
Hezbollah or Hamas shoots a rocket at Israel?
Tehran pays a price.
5. The enemy is the Iranian REGIME, not the wonderful Iranian people.
The Iranian regime reminds me of the Soviet regime in 1985: corrupt to the core, old, incompetent, despised by its own people, and destined to collapse.
The sooner the better.
The West can accelerate the regime’s inevitable collapse with a set of soft and clever actions, short of military force.
Remember, USSR collapsed without any need for a direct American attack.
Let’s do this.
6. Israel is fighting everybody’s war. In Gaza, Lebanon and Tehran.
We’re considered “the small satan” by radical Islam. America is the big one.
I’ll be clear: if these crazy fanatic Islamic terrorists get away with murder by hiding among civilians, this method will be adopted by terrorists worldwide.
We’re not asking anyone to fight for us. We’ll do the job.
But we do expect our allies to have our back, especially when it’s tough—and now it’s tough.
Be on the right side and help us defeat these horrible and savage regimes.

Israel’s military, with the help of the United States, Britain and Jordan, shot down nearly all of the drones and missiles that Iran fired on Saturday, in what was believed to be the first direct Iranian attack on Israel after years of a shadow war.

Iran’s attack seemed planned to minimize casualties while maximizing spectacle
CNN, Apr 14, 2024
Beirut, Lebanon CNN — A decades-long shadow war burst out into the open overnight as Iranian drones and missiles lit up the night sky in Israel and the occupied West Bank. Tehran’s operation was highly choreographed, apparently designed to minimize casualties while maximizing spectacle.
This was a complex mission. Over 300 drones and missiles navigated above Iran’s neighbors, including Jordan and Iraq — both with US military bases — before penetrating the airspace of Iran’s mortal enemy, Israel. Israel’s allies helped shoot down the bulk of these weapons, but couldn’t prevent what was long believed to be the Middle East’s doomsday scenario, the Islamic Republic’s first-ever attack on Israel.
Israel’s fabled Iron Dome air defense system did not disappoint Israelis, many of whom took to bunkers. Only a small handful of locations were attacked, including a military base and an area in the Negev desert, injuring a Bedouin child, while the dome fended off one of the largest drone attacks in history
Yet it was an operation that seemed designed to fail — when Iran launched its killer drones from its own territory some 1,000 miles away, it was giving Israel hours of advance notice.
The symbolism of the attack did the heavy lifting. Rather than fire from one of the neighboring countries where Iran and its non-state allies are present, this was a direct attack from Iranian territory on Israeli territory. This compromised Iran’s ability to damage Israel because it robbed the operation of the element of surprise.
The lead time meant that Israel and its regional partners could ready Israel’s defenses, and the operation amounted to little more than a terrifying fireworks display.

I stand with Israel.Several years ago, we asked some Jewish friends what we could do to support Israel. The husband - retired rabbi - mentioned two organizations, one of which was AFMDA. We've been sending some $ there ever since. It may not be much, but we know that even if we can't afford to buy them a new ambulance, we're at least providing some medical supplies. They respond to all medical issues, from injuries from Islamic bombing to traffic accidents to emergency childbirth. Their paramedics are Jews and Arabs, working together, and they do not discriminate as to whom they treat.
(I noticed your tagline: Support Israel's emergency medical service. afmda.org)
https://twitter.com/sentdefender/status/1779906365797941630
Will they retain the support of the U.S. though?? I don't think Biden & Co., will condone any retaliation.Biden would have told the Japanese after Pearl Harbor to just don't do it again.......................or else.
Part of me thinks that Biden arrived at the right conclusion (in telling Bibi to back off) but for all the wrong reasons (his re-election campaign).
IF all the reports are true that only a few of the Iranian missiles got through and there was negligible damage and no injuries or deaths, then the Iranians look toothless and ridiculous against the Israelis, at least from the air. And IF it was in fact a virtual wall of "AA" thrown up and coordinated by the Israelis, US, UK, Jordanians, and perhaps even the Saudis, then that has to also be a big strategic blow to the Iranians since their attack apparently blew up in their faces. With that said, "take the win" is probably the best strategy right now for the Israelis, and in a perfect world, give them complete license to finish off Hamas in Rafah, while continuing to wage their shadow war against the IRGC.
As for the Iranians, they get to beat their chest that they retaliated and avenged their consulate in Syria, while scaring the bejezus out of their citizens.
Just some garbled thoughts this morning after the fact.
(Disclaimer: If I was president, I would have nuked Iran a long time ago).
OSINTdefenderI believe that Iran has had a nuke/nukes for some time and that is due first from the assistance of the Obama/Biden misadministration and now through the assistance of the Biden/Harris puppet administration of Obamas. If Iran was to use a nuke against Israel I don't believe there is anything or anyone on Earth that could stop Israel from turning Iran into a sea of glass.
@sentdefender
I think it is now Safe to say that Iran likely has some kind of Nuclear/Dirty Bomb or has the Ability to Manufacture one within Days, which is something that I’m sure Officials in Washington and Tel Aviv are “Keeping a Close-Eye On” while Planning their Next Steps. If Israel does Plan to launch a Retaliatory Strike against Iran, they must be Prepared for Iran to think this could be an Extreme Threat against their Regime and thus utilize these Weapons.

This is possibly one of the scariest threads I have ever read. Especially given the large protests here today.
That you @mystery-ak for keeping everyone current. You do a great job!
TEL AVIV—As hundreds of Iranian drones and missiles winged across the Middle East Saturday night, a defensive line of radars, jet fighters, warships and air-defense batteries from Israel, the U.S. and a half dozen other countries was already activated against the long-feared attack from Iran.
Almost nothing got through to Israel.
The formidable display of collective defense was the culmination of a decades-old but elusive U.S. goal to forge closer military ties between Israel and its longtime Arab adversaries in an effort to counter a growing common threat from Iran.
But the U.S.-led effort to protect Israel in the days and hours before the Iranian attack had to overcome numerous obstacles, including fears by Gulf countries at being seen as coming to Israel’s aid at a time when relations are badly strained by the war in Gaza.
Much of the cooperation Saturday night that led to the shooting down of the Iranian-directed barrage needed to be forged on the fly, and many details about the role played by Saudi Arabia and other key Arab governments are being closely held.
How the U.S. Forged a Fragile Middle Eastern Alliance to Repel Iran’s Israel Attack
https://www.wsj.com/world/middle-east/how-the-u-s-forged-a-fragile-middle-eastern-alliance-to-repel-irans-israel-attack-4a1fbc00?st=giezvuwydhn36wh
EXCERPT
Horseshit. All of these alliances were forged by Trump. And Biden trashed them all. See the UAE anywhere in this? They were supposed to get delivery of F-35s - a deal worked out under Trump. But Biden cancelled it by executive order, and in doing so trashed any cooperative agreement between the UAE and Israel. It is a miracle that this many Arab countries got in line with Israel over this. But it's only because they see Iran as the bigger threat, not because Biden showed any leadership.
Efforts to build an integrated air-defense system for the region date back decades. After years of false starts and minimal progress, the initiative gained momentum after the 2020 Abraham Accords brokered by the Trump administration, which established formal ties between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
(snip)
“The Abraham Accords made the Middle East look different…because we could do things not just under the surface but above it,” a senior Israeli official said. Joining Central Command enabled even more technical cooperation with Arab governments. “That’s what created this alliance,” the official said.
(snip)
An Israeli official involved in regional security cooperation efforts said that while there had been frequent sharing of intelligence on air-defense threats in the past, Iran’s attack Saturday “was the first time that we saw the alliance work at full power.”
I have said it before, and I will say it again: in a just world, Donald Trump would have gotten the Nobel Prize for the Abraham Accords.
Unfortunately, we live in a world where Barack Obama got it for merely existing and knowing how to dress well enough to keep a crease in his pants impeccably sharp.
I thought of this again as I watched the attack on Israel by Iran unfold. It seemed clear to me that it wasn't just the United States, Great Britain, and Israel who were defending the Jewish state while under Iranian attack: it was the entire Arab world as well.
Trump understood in a way other policymakers never did that Israel and the Arab world share similar foreign policy interests and that the Arab world understands that mutual good relations would benefit all concerned. The Palestinians have long since used up their victim credits with Arab leaders, and their alliance with Iran--an aggressive non-Arab country--made them nothing less than an enemy of most Middle-Eastern countries.
It is of course true that the "Arab street" is still filled with hostility to Israel, but the same can hardly be said for the people in power across the Arab world, so when Jared Kushner was dispatched to the Middle East to forge a deal he found a receptive audience.
We saw the results this weekend: as Iran attacked Israel, its neighbors quietly came to its aid. It was an easy choice, too.
The article actually does give Trump credit for the alliance and argues that it worked despite Biden's gross incompetence.
Of course not!

Air Defense of Israel Made Possible by the Abraham Accords

Israel knows that if they did share that Info with LIEden's minions it would be passed on to Iran within hours.
Therefore, I assume anything Israel tells Shortbus Joe is 100% disinformation.

Israel makes own decisions, Netanyahu says after Cameron talks
BBC, Apr 17, 2024
Benjamin Netanyahu has told UK Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron that Israel would "make its own decisions" over how to respond to an Iranian attack.
He said his government would "do everything necessary to defend itself" during talks the British government had hoped would help prevent escalation.
Mr Netanyahu has repeatedly vowed to retaliate to the unprecedented missile and drone assault at the weekend.

:silly: Typical anti-Israel liberal baloney. 1. Israel did not hit the Iranian embassy. 2. The men meeting in the Iranian embassy compound building were Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commanders who led and coordinated the terrorist groups who had just and still were attacking Israeli territory. Glenn Greenwald sees no problem with commanders meeting to plan illegal military actions (illegal, because neither Hamas nor Hezbollah are military forces of any country) in an embassy compound? Or did Glenn Greenwald expect his audience would not know what Israel actually did?
Iran Claims Biden Admin Lying About Being Warned of Israel Missile Attack
Well, there’s a quandary… who to believe?
@Lando Lincoln
It should be easy for Iran to provide an audio of communication between POTUS and Iran representative.
However, the cozy relationship between Barack Obama/Valerie Jarrett and Iran makes me scratch my head as to the 'plot' here.

Iraqi Sources are reporting that the Airstrikes on the Capital of Baghdad have Targeted a Building in which a High-Ranking Meeting was taking place involving several Iranian-Backed Groups and Members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The US has approved a potential Israeli Rafah operation in exchange for the Jewish state not conducting counterstrikes on Iran, according to a Thursday report from the Qatari newspaper The New Arab.

Israel just struck Iran on Ayatollah Khamenei’s birthday.
@mystery-ak Time for a new sticky thread?
I think I'll keep it here for tonight and start a new one in the morning...unless if someone else wants to and I will sticky it..
Israel just struck Iran on Ayatollah Khamenei’s birthday.
Upon the light of day it appears this strike was under "proportional." One step above what Biden would have done...A sternly worded "Don't"
Reports coming out saying that Israel purposely did not strike nuclear targets in Isfahan.
Israel doesn't need our approval, you arrogant putz.

This reminds me of an elevated "Cold War". You shoot me...I'll shoot you back.
I watched and old movie some time ago that involved the US and Russia bombing each others cities to stop the escalation. With acquiesce from both countries. Just to save face. Don't remember the name at the moment. I hope that isn't the outcome.
Fail Safe.
We could call this A Tale of Two Facilities. Iran launched an unprecedented direct attack on Israel in retaliation for the targeted strike on IRGC and Hamas commanders. That attack did little damage despite a volley of well over 300 missiles and drones, thanks to the regional defenses and the several hours of lead time necessitated by Iran's launch from its own territory.
That demonstrated the facility Iran has for offensive operations in the region. Israel responded by demonstrating its facility, and as the New York Times hears from officials in Iran and the West, the result shocked the Iranians:
...
Their shock didn't just come from the fact that Israel had denuded their critical Natanz site of effective air defense. It didn't come from realizing just how far Israel could strike without entering its airspace, either. What truly shocked the Iranians is that they had no warning at all before their expensive S-300 system got destroyed from a single strike:
NYT: Israelis Used Stealth Missile on Nuclear-Site Defenses in Iran Attack

The Soviet S-300 system is 1970s vintage, originally, but is probably much updated. The S-400 system is newer but hasn't been doing very well in Ukraine. How will Iran respond now that they know their defenses are blind to significant Israeli technologies and can be blinded to older technologies?

The strike, the Western officials said, was calculated to deliver a message to Iran that Israel could bypass Iran’s defense systems undetected and paralyze them, using a fraction of the fire power Iran deployed last week when it launched hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel. That attack, intercepted by Israel and its allies, caused minimal damage.
