My personal favorite is Green Book if anyone is interested, best movie I’ve seen in over a decade.

The Best movie isn't there.

"Cold War" the nominee for Best Foreign Movie, was better than any of those movies listed.

I'm sorry, I am unable to vote in your poll.

It looks to be raciss to me: no White Panther or White Klansmen??

It may also be colorist: what about Red Book?  Blue Book?  I don't see them as options.

(Aside from the fact that I saw none of those movies!)

I didn't see any of these movies either, and probably never will, but I'm going for Bohemian Rhapsody and Roma.

Since Bohemian Rhapsody is the only one of these I've seen, I'll go with that.

None. The Oscars are all about political insiders and have nothing to do with merit.
Don't know if you've seen it yet, but there is a fairly big 'F**k the Oscars' movement going on in a lot of social media sites.

This year I broke my tradition of not having seen any of the Oscar-nominated films when, while on vacation with a friend last month, she rented "Bohemian Rhapsody."  I thought it was surprisingly good.

Alas,I doubt it will win.

LOL, when I saw Bohemian Rhapsody,  I couldn't help but thinking that Snafu and Sledge, wound up forming Queen, all those years after they fought in "The Pacific".

Oh and really, yet another version of "A Star is Born?"  What is this -- version #12?

Ok, I'm exaggerating.  But it seems to me redoing this movie is definite proof Hollywood has run out of ideas.

Sorry I missed the choice in the poll of "who gives a shit"

I boycotted Liberal Hollywood long ago.   In the rare case I do find someting interesting, I'll use my Netflix and Amz Prime option.

What's it about, @Freya ?  I haven't seen any of the movies this year (unusual), so I don't have a vote.

Oh, never mind.......... I HAVE seen "Black Panther."

The speed and frenetic nature of the scenes made my old eyes hurt.  happy77

Loved that movie, but not as much as Gettysburg.

We saw Gods and Generals with our son right before he deployed to Iraq his first time.   When he was in elementary school, every time he was home sick (not that often), he'd watch Gettysburg, and I'd stick around to hear one of the best soundtracks in the history of the motion picture industry!  happy77

Haven't seen any of the nominated movies, but if I were to vote for best actor, it would be either Christian Bale or maybe Rami Malek (loved him in Mr. Robot).  Not really interested in seeing any of the movies this year.

Christian Bale is a great actor, but his movie role was a complete lie, so he's out in my book.

Good point.  And he would have to be a leftie to agree to play it.... right?  But I still like 'some' actors that are lefties.... against my better judgment.  And some that have played roles that I didn't like (like Denzel).

The left is on 24/7 assault mode against any and all present and former office holders on the right.  Cheney was as hated as Bush back then... but even that hatred is dwarfed by their hate for Trump and all things Trumpish.  Probably because he used to be one of them (on their plantation).

Did you see it?  It was extremely well done and the 'connection' between Cooper and Gaga was amazing.  Their acting was superb each in their own way.

I was disappointed actually that Cooper wasn't nominated as best director.

Since I saw the movie, Kelly Clarkson 'covered' Gaga's song 'Shallow' - it was even better than Gaga's version!

That would be 2003 as it was the last movie that I enjoyed before my father passed away.  Great movie by the way and I am a huge fan of Mel Gibson.

I have watched most of these in some capacity...

Gonna throw in trailer links for others to get an idea about the movies.

Green Book was ok if it didn't have the gay junk thrown in... which was pure speculation...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP0VHJYFOAU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP0VHJYFOAU)

Black Panther was not my cup of tea... (perhaps the least liberal)... Kids liked it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP0VHJYFOAU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP0VHJYFOAU)

The Favorite was trash (history wise) but the Queen was a good actor.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP0VHJYFOAU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP0VHJYFOAU)

Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen singer) I didn't watch, not a fan of the gay lifestyle so didn't care to watch. Will admit the group was tight (music wise).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP0VHJYFOAU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP0VHJYFOAU)

Roma, Boring and depressing, lacked plot. Few scenery shots but nothing I would say was overwhelmingly great.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BS27ngZtxg (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BS27ngZtxg)

The Klan Movie is a Spike Lee movie, I refuse to watch his crap.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP0VHJYFOAU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP0VHJYFOAU)

Star is Born may be a good movie, I ain't seen it. Any Comments for any of yall that seen it?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP0VHJYFOAU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP0VHJYFOAU)

Vice I have not seen, probable won't due to being sure it is just a political hackjob.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP0VHJYFOAU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP0VHJYFOAU)

Didn't vote... Green Book was ok. Probable "The Favorite" will win if I had to guess.

I'd probably vote for "Roma" because it seems to be the least "Hollywood-like" of the nominated films.  Plus the wife saw it, and liked it.

Enjoyed them equally, except that the R.E.L. tiebreaker goes to Duvall over that left wing puke Sheen.

Okay I will say it:

Blacks comprise about 13 percent of America's population

This year the movies seem to be over 50 percent black in some manner

A report coming out of Hollywood this afternoon revealed that a 4-hour-long political lecture scheduled for Sunday will be disguised as an awards show in order to drum up interest.

"See, if we just asked people to tune in for four hours of virtue-signaling and political posturing, we'd have zero viewers," said one of the show's organizers. "If we want to keep the three or four viewers we still have left, we have to pretend the purpose of this ceremony is to hand out awards for excellent movies released in the last year."

Gay, trans-whatever, and all that LXYZ crap (I mean real actual ones, and not just people playing politics and virtue signaling) are well less than 10% of the population. And one estimate I read put it at less than 3%. And yet judging from American TV and Movies anyone would get the impression that they are the other 50 percent.

Hollywood has American demographics at 40% Black, 40% sexually confused, 10% White, and 10% assorted others.

I don't see it as a political lecture. It is more like "America's got Talent". Only instead of singing the contestants are competing with each other in a "Who Hates Donald Trump More?" contest.

Contestant 1: I hate Trump the most of anyone on Earth!
Contestant 2: I hate Trump more than that!
Contestant 3: No, I do!
Contestant 2: I would punch him in the nose!
Contestant 1: I would kill his dog!
Contestant 4: F**K Trump!
All: Yea! F**K him and all his supporters!
(and on and on like that for hours)

The best movie from 2018 wasn't even nominated: The Rider.  Roma is way overrated.  It has a lot of stunning cinematography, but not much in the way of characters, story or plot.  Star Is Born was maybe the worst of the four versions of that film, though it wasn't bad.  Definitely not big picture material, though.

The movies are in big trouble as the best entertainment being produced these days is television series and mini-series.

Agree. I always thought Sheen was odd casting for the role.

R.E.L was so tall and dignified and gentlemanly with class from head to toe, and Sheen is just a short stubby leftie. Weird choice.  Even for Hollywood.

I still liked the movie a lot though.  Longstreet I loved. Chamberlain too.

But the music was exquisite, wasn't it?

Just read an Oscars preview. Apparently Hollywood is planning a "Trump Bashing Spectacular!" much to the surprise of absolutely nobody.
It is going to be DU and DailyKos rolled into one pathetic 4 hour rant. I hear they hired @Oceander as an assistant producer.

Trump sucks...
Pence sucks...
Even though we lost the election, we won anyway with Mueller...
Trump this...and Trump that...
Did I mention, 'F**K Trump!'

Don't know who is watching this stuff, but more power to them if they can stand it. I won't be there.

Quote
HOLLYWOOD, CA—According to sources at the 91st annual Academy Awards ceremony this evening, the nation's wealthy, privileged elite gathered to lecture the nation on the horrendous evils of wealth and privilege.

The wealthiest 0.00001% of the nation arrived at the exclusive, walled-off, high-security event in limos and luxury cars driven by servants in order to spend a few hours telling the nation's poor and middle-class citizens how they need to throw off the yoke of oppression put on them by the wealthy elite.

"It's the white, privileged, wealth hoarders that are ruining America," said one white, privileged man whose net worth is estimated at $160 million. "All you people in the cheap seats at home: you need to do better."

"America is just a terrible nation with no opportunity," said one woman who made $100 million wearing costumes and reading words someone else wrote off a page. "We must stop the 1% from hoarding all the wealth." Upon being informed she was well within the 1%, she clarified that it was actually the 0.000001% who are the problem.

Unfortunately, it looks like the event will proceed as planned next year as well.

My wife and I saw "Green Book" at the theater last Thursday night.

We both liked it a lot.

But the continuous Trump hate, coupled with "very thing black in the movies, has gone too far for me.

This morning's designated outrage, is a 3 year delayed claim that Trump kissed a black woman (then) supporter on the corner of her pretty mouth.

She was so outraged that she attended the inagural ball, and applied for jobs.
