California bill to ban schools from expelling disruptive students close to becoming law (https://www.sacbee.com/news/local/education/article234218847.html)
A proposal meant to protect kids from unnecessary discipline by banning expulsions for disobedience in California schools passed out of the Assembly this week, moving closer to becoming a law.
The Assembly voted 58-17 for Senate Bill 419, which now moves back to the Senate for a vote on amendments before it goes to Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Under the amended SB 419, schools would be prohibited from suspending any student from kindergarten to eighth grade “who disrupts school activities or otherwise willfully defies the valid authority of supervisors, teachers, administrators, or school officials,†beginning July 1, 2020.
I hope Christian Home Educators Association of California, California Homeschool Network and HomeSchool Association of California are prepared for an influx of new members and are prepared to help newbies find assistance and support in their communities. Because lunacy like this bill - not yet signed into law will drive even more families out of PSs.
Private campus schools not already busting at their seams will also probably see an influx.
On a totally different tack, where in Hades was the CTA on this bill?! It literally will endanger the lives and limbs of some CTA members! Not to mention students ... not that I really believe the CTA cares much about students, since they don't pay union dues.

California's insanity is the "canary in the mine," for the rest of the coutry which is facing the same topics.

Governments and familllies, used to have the common sense to donfine/isolate problem people.
"Do-gooder" "compassionate" prance all about on their moral high horses, watching the homeless addicts fill up Seattle, SF, LA and I understand places like Austin TX.
So long as legislators and judges, refuse to lock them up, your town might be next.
The really compassionate thing to do would be donfining them.
We have watched Clinton appointed judge David O. Carter, coddle the homeless, while the state builds trains to nowhere, with money that could have been used for assylums and sanitoriums, like we did in the past, before our voters' minds turned to "bleeding heart" mush.
