20-Pound Rodents Are Invading California

By Madison Dapcevich
14 Feb 2018, 23:15

Creatures are emerging from the California marshlands with orange buckteeth, webbed feet, and round, rat-like tails. They can weigh more than 9 kilograms (20 pounds) and reach lengths of up to 1 meter (3.5 feet).

No, we’re not introducing the next bad horror flick. The real-life drama starring the invasive nutria is unfolding in three of the state’s counties and it has officials concerned.

"They munch on native plants that hold wetland soil together and this, paired with rising sea levels, intensifies the loss of coastal marshes."

They lose credibility when they refer to "rising sea levels".

True, @RoosGirl most coonazz's I know will eat anything but as far as I know I've never eaten Rat/nutra/muskrat whatever.
I've been fighting those little bastards for a month with this recent cold weather, trying to figure out how they were getting into my 130 year old house.  This afternoon I pulled the dishwasher out and found the hole, plugged all that up.
My little rat dog will be highly disappointed and somewhat bored but she'll get over it.

Brilliant idea, never heard of it @RoosGirl there's one right up the road from me in San Marcos next month.  I think she'd love that.  She really hates it when that big rescue lab bores quickly and throws them across the room, killing it.

The woman that owned the dog that I bred my bitch to was always looking for something else to title him in.  She did agility and obedience and hunt tests and conformation and and and.  She was running out of things to do with him and about that time they opened up barn hunts to all breeds, so she started doing those with a German Shorthaired Pointer.

Out this way, the only place that's warm in the winter is the manure pile...  so the rats all dig in there, and go to the stalls and outside feeders to eat...

here in a bit, the top of the pile will thaw (sure sign that spring is coming) where you can get a pitch fork into it...  Get everybody's rat dogs together and go to one pile after the other... You've never seen such happy dogs as when you fork one of those fat grain fed rats out of the pile. pretty easy to get 100 rats out in an hour or so...  Say, six rat dogs, kickin it into high gear and doing what they do best...

That's how we do rats...

And btw, I have ate enough muskrat for both of us...

Let me guess.
Soak em in beer,
salt, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper
Egg wash
spiced flour
egg wash
panco.

Pitch em in the deep frier
lay em on a plate
and cover em with warmed up rotel and taco sauce.

Heck, you could leave the hair on and that'd still be good.
