FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. —

Two soldiers are dead after the helicopter they were riding in crashed during a training exercise at Fort Campbell in Kentucky, officials said.

Officials said the Apache helicopter went down around 9:50 p.m. Friday. The crew was conducting a routine training exercise at the time of the crash. The two soldiers killed were members of the 101st Airborne Division.

“This is a day of sadness for Fort Campbell and the 101st Airborne,” said Brig. Gen. Toff Royar, acting senior commander of the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families during this difficult time.”

Most likely weather-related.

A cold front blew through at that time and wind gusts were 45-50 MPH or more with rain and snow flying.
