Me too.  I think every boy my age wondered at the bumps under Annette's sweaters....   8888crybaby

My adolescent crush (might have subconsciously influenced me to marry an Italian-American girl).

But what was she doing in Bakersfield? Soon could be a boom-town again with oil.

I met her in the mid-90's at a doll show at the Sheraton across from Universal Studios. She was there that weekend for a signing of her bears.  It was beyond sad to see her, not just in a wheelchair, but on oxygen and literally unable to move her limbs.  Her husband brought her to the banquet dinner as well... made me very sad to see what the disease had done to her.  I grew up on Mickey Mouse Club (and later American Bandstand).

It's an awful disease. A family friend recently died at around 84 after nearly 25 years of being stuck in bed, nearly immobile. We lived in S. California in the early '60s and visited Disneyland frequently. I watched Mickey Mouse Club faithfully, and thought Annette was so wonderful!
