James Maxwell has spent the last 37 years caring for patients as a neurosurgeon at St. Mary's and Rochester General hospitals. Now, he says, he wants to continue that life of service as a member of Congress.

Maxwell announced his candidacy Saturday morning. He'll be seeking the Republican nomination to challenge Louise Slaughter, D-Fairport in New York's 25th District.

Gates Town Supervisor Mark Assini faced Slaughter in the last two elections, losing a narrow race in 2014. He will announce his intentions later this month. [See http://www.gopbriefingroom.com/index.php/topic,308294.0.html (http://www.gopbriefingroom.com/index.php/topic,308294.0.html)]
