IRS to Increase Audit Rates of Wealthy Taxpayers by 50 Percent

Paul Bois 2 May 2024

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has said it will increase its audit rates of wealthy taxpayers and large corporations by 50 percent.

The IRS will reportedly be using funds allotted to it under the Inflation Reduction Act, which President Biden signed into law in 2022.

“The audit rate of taxpayers earning more than $10 million is expected to increase by 50%, going up from 11% in 2019 to 16.5% in 2026,” reported CNN.

“The IRS also plans to triple the audit rates of large corporations with assets over $250 million, as well as increase the audit rates of business partnerships with assets over $10 million by tenfold over the seven-year period,” it added.

The IRS, however, clarified that it does not expect the audit rates to actually exceed the numbers reached in 2010  “because the number of filings by large corporations, partnerships and wealthy individuals have grown and become more complex.”

Republicans believe the IRS will likely be using this expansion and funding to penalize middle-class Americans. IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel said the agency will leave Americans earning less than $400,000 annually alone.

Bernie Sanders on Israel: ‘This May Be Biden’s Vietnam’

Pam Key 2 May 2024

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said Thursday on CNN International’s “Amanpour” that the pro-Palestine demonstrations on college campuses could be President Joe Biden’s Vietnam.

Host Christiane Amanpour said, “So I want to ask you, my question to you is what do you think now is going to happen to Biden and his campaign? Where do you think all of this is going to lead because it’s also about American foreign policy?”

Sanders said, “Well, in terms of his campaign. You know, I am thinking back and other people are making this reference that this may be Biden’s Vietnam. Lyndon Johnson in many respects, was a very, very good president domestically, and brought forth some major pieces of legislation. He chose not to run in ’68 because of opposition to his views on Vietnam and I worry very much President Biden is putting himself in a position where he has alienated not just young people but a lot of the Democratic base all in terms of his views on Israel and this war.”

He added, “So I would hope very much that from certainly a policy our point of view from a moral point of view that the president stops giving a blank check to Netanyahu and I would hope that they understand that from a political point of view, this has not been helpful. Quite the contrary.”

DAY 11

Former President Trump's criminal trial is scheduled to resume at 9:30 a.m. Friday morning with the prosecution's seventh witness, Doug Daus, to take the stand.

Daus is a computer forensic analyst with the district attorney's office. Yesterday, he testified about examining two cell phones that belonged to Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen.

During Daus' testimony, an audio recording was played former Trump attorney Michael Cohen could be heard telling Trump that he (Cohen) has to open up a company to transfer funds to “our friend David.”  Cross-examination began towards the end of the day, and the defense was asking about the chain of custody of the phone.

Before Daus, Keith Davidson, an attorney who once represented both Karen McDougal and Stormy Daniels, completed his testimony. He testified about various interactions with Cohen before and after the 2016 election.

Davidson said Daniels’ denial of an affair with Trump was technically true because he wouldn’t characterize the interaction between Trump and Stormy as romantic. He also said the money Cohen paid Stormy was not a payoff, but rather a “consideration.” The defense played audio recordings of Davidson where he can be heard admitting Cohen didn’t need authority from Trump to make the payment to Stormy.

Court will end early today at 3:45 p.m. to accommodate a juror's appointment.

VIDEO — ‘It’s About Protecting America’: Bill Forcing NC Sheriffs to Cooperate with ICE May Soon Become Law

by AMY FURR2 May 2024

A bill that would force sheriffs in North Carolina to work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) authorities may soon become law after much debate among state lawmakers.

The Senate Committee on Judiciary approved House Bill 10 on Tuesday after it passed the House chamber in 2023, the Carolina Journal reported.

The bill’s primary sponsor, Rep. Destin Hall (R-Caldwell), said a detainer is a common way for ICE to remove noncitizens whom law enforcement had arrested for criminal activity.

Hall stated during a meeting on Tuesday:

As everyone knows, there’s a small number of sheriffs, probably somewhere around 10 or so now, who don’t honor ICE detainers. And in fact, in many cases, according to folks at ICE and others, some sheriffs simply don’t even communicate with ICE at all. It is a common-sense bill. I’ve been dealing with this issue now for five or six years, and it still, to me, is amazing that we even have to have a bill like this. It seems to me to be common sense that law enforcement should cooperate with one another and their first goal should be public safety.

Anti-borders activists are now running U.S. border security
Commentary
May 1, 2024

By Matt O’Brien and Tom Homan

Michelle Brané is an anti-borders extremist. Her entire career has been dedicated to undermining America’s immigration laws and interfering with efforts to secure America’s borders. She has characterized U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as “abusive” and has been a vocal advocate for defunding the agency. The bulk of her employment history consists of jobs with organizations that oppose any reasonable immigration enforcement.

If you think Brané sounds like an incredibly poor choice to make decisions about who ICE should and should not detain, you would be correct. Nevertheless, the White House has chosen her to be the Department of Homeland Security’s immigration detention ombudsman.

In her new job, Brané will “assist individuals with complaints about the potential violation of immigration detention standards or other misconduct by DHS (or contract) personnel and provides oversight of immigration detention facilities.” Given her publicly and frequently expressed bias against any type of immigration enforcement, how often do you think she’s going to find in favor of ICE?

This recent hire continues the Biden administration’s series of controversial job picks. For instance, Tucson, Arizona, police chief Chris Magnus was selected to serve as the commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, despite (more likely because of ) his advocacy of sanctuary city policies. Magnus instructed his department not to cooperate with ICE or the Border Patrol. He eventually proved so incompetent at his job that even the White House had to acknowledge his shortcomings and accept his resignation.

The Dishonest War on the Term ‘Illegal Alien’
Commentary
April 29, 2024

By Dale Wilcox

The war on truth about illegal immigration has officially made its way to the classroom.

A high school student in North Carolina was suspended from school earlier this month after using the term “illegal alien” when asking a question about a class assignment. After the teacher issued an assignment which included the term “alien,” the student asked if she was referring to space aliens or illegal aliens. For this offense, the student was suspended from school for three days, and will now have to explain why he has a suspension on his record when applying to colleges. This successful effort to chill accurate speech in an academic setting should infuriate all Americans who care about free and open discourse, and serve as a warning sign about the influence of propaganda from the anti-borders movement.

There is nothing wrong or imprecise about the term “illegal alien.” According to the Immigration and Nationality Act, our nation’s current immigration law, the term “alien” is defined as “any person not a citizen or national of the United States.” Thus, it is valid to refer to a foreigner in the country illegally as an illegal alien, yet the effort to transform this proper legal terminology into a societal taboo has been largely successful.

The anti-borders movement has demonized the term as bigoted and racist, even though “alien” is not a race and foreign nationals from all over the world and of all different races seek to come here. The push has included browbeating major institutions to discard the term in order to whitewash the crime of illegal immigration.
