Title: Trump Gives GM Ultimatum: Reopen Closed Lordstown, Ohio, Plant

President Donald Trump this weekend called out multinational corporation General Motors (GM) for closing its first of four U.S. assembly plants it expects to shutter this year, urging GM CEO Mary Barra to quickly reopen the plant.

Trump called out the automaker and Barra for laying off thousands of American workers and the recent closing of the Lordstown, Ohio, assembly plant.

This year, GM announced it would stop production at four of its U.S. plants, including Detroit-Hamtramck and Warren Transmission in Michigan, Lordstown Assembly in Ohio, and Baltimore Operations in Maryland. Trump initially blasted the decision, saying, “This country has done a lot for General Motors. They better get back to Ohio and soon.”

Because the economy is so good, General Motors must get their Lordstown, Ohio, plant open, maybe in a different form or with a new owner, FAST! Toyota is investing 13.5 $Billion in U.S., others likewise. G.M. MUST ACT QUICKLY. Time is of the essence!

This is the kind of stuff that I wish Trump would absolutely not do. Can't support this at all.

This is another example of Dictator Trump thinking he owns this country and every company and every PERSON in it.

It is none of the President's business. Every business has to make adjustments in their supply chain, all the time, to meet certain demands. Forcing a non-working part of that chain to re-open just for political points will cause more harm than good. If they are operating with low margins, something will need to be cut elsewhere.

The President just wants PR points from this.

If only Congress would give GM the ability to move foreign-earned money into the US without having to pay taxes on it.

This is the worst of Trump. He's good in some ways, in other ways he acts like a tyrant.
We just had eight years of a tyrant trying to tell businesses what to do or else. We don't need Obama II.

They made one type of car there and people weren’t buying it. You just can’t retool overnight. Besides, in this great, booming economy, they have other job options, like the people at Carrier and Harley Davidson do.
