These situations must have happened, maybe more than we think, I've read the "A Higher Call" book (below), maybe it was more sportsmanlike between pilots, but the German could have blown the American warplane away in the situation described in it. Then, the two pilots became friends after the war. The German pilot even went on to live in America, Florida I believe.
