Earlier today, uniformed Afghan security forces, including soldiers and policemen, attacked a US military base in eastern Kapisa province, killing a civilian contractor. Three Afghan troops are also said to have been killed in the incident.
A statement issued by ISAF today said: “Individuals wearing Afghan National Army uniforms turned their weapons against International Security Assistance Force members in eastern Afghanistan today, killing one ISAF-contracted civilian.”
According to Khaama Press, “several” armed men, said to be Afghan National Army soldiers and Afghan police officers, attacked the base in Kapisa City “while Afghan soldiers were leaving the military base and a verbal conflict started between US and Afghan soldiers.”
The attackers were equipped with “equipped with Humvee armoured vehicles and modern military equipment,” Khaama Press reported.

I don't think it's so much that they cannot be trusted, but that they have their own ways - honed over centuries of local warfare - and they're not about to give them up for some snot-nosed Americans who think they can reconfigure Afghan society/culture on the fly.
Afghans are just Afghans, the way Americans are just Americans.
That being said, it would be wiser to stage a strategic withdrawal with honor, and avoid the ultimate run-out we had to put up with in Vietnam (similar to what the Soviets put up with when they left Afghanistan). The recent "invitations" from the Afghans to further isolate American forces should simply be accepted and US troops withdrawn, period.

WWII ended, and we would NOT allow Germany and Japan to rise up, much less continue with resistance like we have allowed the muslims to dop.
If we depart, islam will call it victory and be strengthened, knowing they can out wait us.
We should win victory, by killing far, far more civilians, as w did in WWII.

Unless they let our troops fight this war as they are trained to do we will never *win*...pull out of this God foresaken country.
