Officials with the Olathe, Kansas, school system have apologized after inviting only black students on a field trip that included visits to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and an exhibit on the Civil Rights movement at a local museum. Well, actually, they say it was all a "misunderstanding" and that the invitation mistakenly "suggested" the trip was open only to blacks. But the actual invitation specified that it was for "our African-American sophomores and juniors."

The above is a good summary, but for full context, here's the full story the author refers to:

OLATHE, KS (KCTV) -
Officials with the Olathe School District issued an apology Friday after only black students were invited on a school outing.

On Wednesday, a letter was sent to Olathe South High School students by Assistant Principal Candy Birch. In the letter, Birch said in her role as activities director that she wanted to give students an additional opportunity to connect with each other.

"So we are planning an outing open to our African-American sophomores and juniors," she wrote.

The event on April 5 would include a visit to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, the American Jazz Museum, lunch at Arthur Bryant's and then a visit to the Nelson-Atkins Art Gallery to see the "History and Hope: Celebrating the Civil Rights Movement" exhibit.

Birch wrote that she hopes this would be "the first of several outings and activities in the future years."

The cost was $9 for admission to the 18th and Vine Historic Jazz District museums as well as the cost of lunch.

An upset student sent the letter to KCTV5, saying it was an outrage that the invitation was only extended to black students. Some parents said all students should have been afforded an opportunity to attend.

The superintendent's office agreed.

"The Olathe South administration would like to apologize for the misunderstanding," according to a district statement.

The letter went on to say, "As a district we are always looking for ways for our students to get connected and be involved, and unfortunately the letter suggested that this event was only open to African-American students. We would like to make clear that all students are welcome to attend this event."

The district has yet to make an in-school announcement clarifying that it's an open invitation.

Doug Bonney, legal advisor for the area ACLU, said inviting only African-American sophomores and juniors is discriminatory based on race. He said he didn't think any ill will was meant.

"I think the school's heart is in the right place. They're trying to provide an enrichment experience for these students," he said.

In other words, "no honkeys or crackers allowed".

"They're trying to provide an enrichment experience for these students..."

It would appear that racial segregation is now considered to be an "enrichment experience" in some quarters.

Of course, let everyone go to the baseball museum and Arthur Bryant's. Heaven knows there's so much educational enrichment to be gained from such an excursion. Yet we wonder why American children are graduating lack knowledge of American history or the ability to speak and write the English language.  More field trips here!

"our African-American sophomores and juniors."

I love the use of the term "our."  Liberals rightfully assume they own African Americans, and, of course, with the exception of a small minority, they do.

When this kind of nonsense comes from Kansas, it's just more proof that the melting pot is gone. Now we have multi-culturism. It's all so sad - our melting pot made us the land of opportunity for everyone. Now we're firmly into divide and conquer, where each gain for a sub-group means that some other sub-group has to lose.

When I first read this, I was curious why someone would not send out a Whites Only invitation in response. Seems like the right response to me.

And if asked, just say we are just looking out for 'our own White students'.

Actually, I think that a trip to this Museum would be valuable for white children.  The Underground Railway Museum in Cincinnati is an incredible place to learn history, regardless of color.  But obviously, to leftist racists, white guilt is something that is a permanent condition.  It doesn't matter how we really feel or what we really think, we'll always be racist in the distorted minds of the left.

btw, I don't know if a baseball museum is appropriate for a school trip, but I'd certainly take my family there.

But to the point.............. when is this racism going to end?  Are we going to go as far as a Dred Scott scenario before people wake up and see that segregation has returned in full force, only in reverse?

And this is "fair?"

I agree.  When Mr. M and I visited a few years ago, we were just about the only white faces there, which surprised me.

And isn't that sad?  I wonder if the people who run the museum are happy that white folks don't come?

The irony is that one of the things I have always been proudest of about my hometown in NE Ohio, is that there was an Underground Railroad station in it (still there).  There's one nearby where I live now as well.  Ohio was a hugely important state in freeing slaves, and yet us white people who did it, and have always been proud of it, are now dismissed as hopeless racists who won't ever get over it.

I really, REALLY hate what Obama and his fellow racists have done to this country.
